Alena

"Morning mother"
"Good morning Alena. How was your night my dear?"
"I dreamed about the bird again"
"Where did the little thing lead you this time my child?"
"I wonderful place. With tall green trees, far beyond this land in the wilderness"
"The wilderness child? Oh my no no no you must stay here where your kingdom needs you"
"The kingdom mother? Look at that they don't need me. Mother I don't want to live here. I want to live on my own"
"What will you do without a man?"
"Mother I don't need a man. I can handle my own"
"In the wilderness? Where there a robbers and bad people waiting around every tree to kill the first person they see?"
"Mother it's my dream. I don't want to be just another villager in a kingdom" I went out the door to do my morning chores before mother could say a thing. I didn't want to be merried off, to be a house wife, to be one of the 'kings people'. I want my own life. To be free to do what ever I want.
"Morning Bruno" I greeted my horse. I started to put some food down she eat it right away.
"Good girl Bruno" I patted her head, gave her a kiss and went on to do my other chores. I remember when mother gave me Bruno.

"What do you want to name a female horse 'Bruno' for child?"
"I like that name mother"
"Do you think you should give her a female name?" I looked at my new horse she was a baby then. Newly born. I looked back at mother.
"I want to name her Bruno mother"
"It's your horse child but you best remember to take care of her. I don't see why your father got you a horse. Your a lady"

"Alena!"
"Morning Sir Merek"
"Please call me Merek my mistress" he bowed to me.
"I'm not your mistress"
"My lady" he bowed again.
"I'm not your lady either I'm no ones lady or mistress"
"You still dreaming about your life outside the kingdom"
"It's not a dream it's my life it's going to happen and no one can stop me"
"Don't you want to merry and have a family"
"I certainly do not" I look him up and down the walked on. He came running back up to me.
"Whats wrong Alena?"
"I want a different life from everyone else. Look around what do you see?" he looked.
"I see people doing their chores, getting things from the black market..."
"Exactly. I don't want this" he was silent as I got some eggs for mother. I headed home when I got everything I needed for mother. Merek had left me but I didn't notice when.

"My birthday is tomorrow I want to leave so why can't I?" I said to my self.
"I saw you walking with Merek again this morning"
"Where friends mother"
"Why don't you settle down with him?"
"Why does everyone want to control my life. Mother I don't want to settle down with a man"
"Merek is a great guy. He seems to like you"
"Mother"
"Alena don't give me that"
"Mother"
"No Alena! Your staying here where you belong" I kept quit. I didn't want to stay. Why couldn't anyone understand that? Later that night I left. My birthday was in the morning so I would be able to anyways. At least this way no one would stop me.
The night was cold I pulled my hood over my head. I walked to the stable and took my Bruno. We went right out of the kingdoms front door. The night sky was dark with so many beautiful stars. The moon wasn't full but it was getting there. The wind was calm but when it blew it was cold. Sounds of the night came from everywhere. I wasn't scared but my heart was beating. Bruno was light on her feet as she carried me into the wilderness. I kept looking up at the tree's wanting, hoping to see the bird from my dream. It was night though birds weren't up at night. Besides I always saw the bird during the day in my dream. I saw a good stop to rest aways from the kingdom in the forest.

"Let's stop here for the night Bruno" I whispered to her. She stopped and I slid off her back. I layed down a blanket I had with me. The ground wasn't wet and I was happy for that. Bruno sat down next to me. I rubbed her nose I loved how soft it felt. She let out a deep breath before she laid her head down and went to sleep. I put my head by her stomach and closed my eyes.

"Wake up. Wake up. Wake up!" I heard the voice like a soft gental one the first two time. Almost dream like but the third time it was yelled at me I opened my eyes right away. I almost saw a face but was grabbed and pulled to my feet.
"Bruno! Bruno!" I yelled out trying to look behind me for my horse.
"Is that her name? Well she's not your horse any more"
"Bruno!"
"Shut up! Don't look at us!" the words were yelled at me and I litsened hoping that if I did as they said they would let me go. I heard someone whispering off in the distance but I didn't look. Two men on each side of me held my arms so tight I felt that they were leaving a bruise. My heart was pound with fear. I could feel tears near the edge about to run down my face. What had I done? Waht were they going to do to me? I kept my eyes on the ground. My bare feet were cold in the muddy grass it was winter and I was only a village girl.
I wore rags nothing that showed I was important. I felt a sudden pain in the bag of my legs and fell to my knees. The tears spilled out of my eyes. One of the strong men pushed me down my arms were holding me up in the mud. The other men moved my hair from my neck a chill went down my body. I heard the wind whispering to me "On your side. I move your hair. Bare your neck. Off your head" I heard those words as if it was a soft distant whisper I shouldn't be able to hear. I same second a cold metal met my neck the I heard the word 'head' repeat over and over in my head as the last word I ever heard....I was killed.
