Soul for Sell
Kahleeah sat in the terminal clutching her book bag.
The minute she stepped on U.S. soil, she vowed she would never go back to Ramadi.
A young mother sat beside her on standby holding her baby.
As Kahleeah boarded her flight, she glanced at the young mother who could easily pass for her sister.
Kahleeah placed the book bag carefully in her seat. Before takeoff she exited and found the young mother.
βGo. Your seat has a book bag in it.β
The mother smiled.
Kahleeahβs life was just beginning as no one would ever expect to see her again; ever.
The To-Do List
Everyone has a βto-doβ list. Most are composed of things that we tend to put off doing. Jodieβs to-do list consisted of everyday tasks.
In an attempt to mark something off his list (and so he would have clothes to wear), Jodie gathered clothes to wash. However, when he opened the washer lid, what he found was adrenalin-pumping.
Inside Jodieβs washer, was a pop-eyed mouse stalked by a black snake. Both were alive and had the same to-do list priority - to stay alive.
Jodie on the other hand, added another task to his to-do list - go to the laundromat.
The House that Love Bought
With three older brothers, Geoffrey had taken a lot of crap from his siblings. They had always compared jobs, investment portfolios and vacation homes.
Geoffrey neither had, nor wanted the lavish lifestyle of his bloodmates; who lived across the U.S. and abroad. Instead, he chose to live near his ageing parents.
After their mom suffered a massive stroke, his siblings came to see her.
The house they remembered had been replaced with one to accommodate their declining health. The distant children were furious their brother allowed them to spend their retirement so foolishly; until they learned who footed the bill.
