It was inevitable; that is the destruction of the world. Alliances have been made, enemies built over generations, lives lost, and none gained. Our numbers grow smaller, weaker, until there won’t be any more, but until then we will be known as the “revolutionists.”
My heart was pounding, my palms sweating. God, how many more men were there; I can’t take much more of this. I loaded another round into my gun and raised my shaking hands, “Jake, you better have my back,” I muttered. I took a breath and rounded the corner, shooting the largest guy in the head. I pulled back around yet another wall, breathing hard. I closed my eyes for just a second, but it was a second too long and before I recognized where the shot had come from, I felt a fiery pain somewhere, but I couldn’t pin-point the feeling before I saw black dots fill my vision. Everything became blurry; the last thing that I remember is a male voice yelling “Taylor” over and over and more gun shots ringing out in the night, but all I could think about was whose Taylor?
“Shh, she’s waking up,” all of the incessant talking ceased and I opened my eyes to… “Who are you?”
“Ms. Billington, you were shot while on duty, you were in a coma, but obviously you’re awake now. Do you remember anything?”
“Umm, no? Should I remember something?” A girl in a long white lab coat who looked about 40 walked up and said, “You have amnesia, but we weren’t able to identify the extent of your brain injuries, because you lost a lot of blood so our primary goal was to stop the bleeding, but you’ll make a full physical recovery.”
“Well, that’s good news, I guess so you said I was on duty? What does that mean?”
“Well Amanda, I guess we should catch you up to date, huh?” The creepy guy chuckled. “A war started between the United States government and people who opposed the government, therefore becoming traitors to their nation. You knew how problematic the situation had become, better than any of us, so you insisted on going undercover with the townspeople who were revolting, so you could correctly identify their leader and take them down, but you were shot in the process which brought you here.”
“So, I’m a part of the government? Okay, what part exactly?”
“The militia.”
I held my forearm against the guy’s throat, ready to kill him if he tried to escape. “Answer me!I asked you a question… who is your leader?”
“I-I don’t k-know,” the guy whimpered.
“Oh, I think you do,” I sneered and punched him again.
“Okay, Okay h-her name is T-Taylor Fields.”
I smiled, “see, it wasn’t that hard. I told you we could work together,” I let him go and started walking away.
“I-I’m free?” The guy asked, clearly stunned.
I turned around and laughed, “Oh, you’re free alright,” I brought up my gun and aimed.
“I-I thought you were letting me go?”
I snorted, “Please, I said you were free, not free to go” and pulled the trigger. Who is this Taylor Fields girl and why can’t I ever seem to find her? She must let all of her men do the dirty work. As I was walking, I saw someone in the corner of my eye and spun around, gun aimed. “Now, who are you?”
“You don’t remember me?”
Now, I took a good look at the guy, blonde hair, blue eyes, definitely cute, but what side was he on? I took a menacing step forward, “No, should I remember you?”
He took a step back, “We thought you disappeared, Tay.”
Now it was my turn to take a step back. “Who is Tay and who are you?”
“Taylor Fields, the leader of the revolutionists, and I’m Jake the temporary leader.”
Great, I’m going to have to kill him, too. “Okay, but that still doesn’t explain why you called me Tay, who is Taylor Fields?”
He took a slight step forward, his blue eyes pleading, and whispered, “You.”
