To my friend Nick, thank you for the inspiration...
My passion with the military started when I was dating my friend Nick, he was a cool guy who chewed gum and well was in uniform, he was a chaser but we had a real good bond, sometimes those bonds don't end even if nothing else happens. I remembered when I was
doing laundry at the apartment where I was living, he appeared in the laundry room and we were started to talk, we haven't seen each other for some time.
"Do you remember when we just to just hang out?", he asked me.
"Yeah I do, it was nice", it usually ment laughs.
"So, Anna any one special in your life?", he seemed interested to know.
"Not at the moment, I rather be alone"
"I guess it was tought finding out about your ex fiance?" I finished folding my clothes, he helped me put it in the basket.
"It was good when you and I dated for a while"
"Yeah when you said you would never get over me", he smiled.
"I ment it"
"We haven't seen each other in two years Nick"
"So what?, that jerk really hurt you", he touched my hair gently.
"He did but hey I am up again"
"Always rising", he took my chin in his hand.
"Is the only thing I know how to do Captain", we looked at each othe fondly.
"I ment it, you were worth that try, I just back down because I knew you didn't love me in that kind of way"
"Thanks for understanding Nick, it ment so much to me", he carried my basket out of the laundry room.
"So, you want to date again?", he laughed.
"Oh come on, it would never work", we broke up in laughter.
"It probably won't, I confessed I got jealous from Mr. Jerk for a while"
"You know what the heart is a funny thing, it always fall for the wrong person"
"Ah, ha, yeah, I know", he smiled.
"Nick, I am so sorry about us, that it didn't work out", I opened the door to the apartment.
"So this is your new place, I am sorry about all the things you have gone through"
"I know, thank you Captain"
"Want coffee?"
"Sure", I started to make the coffee and he leaned on the kitchen counter.
"How is the Air Force?"
"Great, being a Captain has its strains"
"I bet"
"Anna, you and I were always close"
"Yeah, always", I smile and I saw a sparkle in his green eyes"
"I felt so bad when I saw you go through so many unfair stuff, I wished that you and I were more than friends, back then, I mean"
"You were a good friend"
"We could it have worked, I mean as more as friends", I tossed his hair.
"I don't think Captain, we are so different, you are adventurous, and always so bold, we are night and day and you know it, I gave him the coffee and he started to zip but got burned.
"Ouch!!"
"Gosh Nick, be careful"
"Would you kiss it and make it better", I laughed.
"You don't changed Captain, do you?"
"I guess not, a beautiful girl like you inside and out makes life better for a tough guy like me"
"Oh well, thanks", we drank our coffee slowly.
"Can we go to dinner tonight?"
"I guess you are on leave"
"You got it kid", I kissed his cheeck.
"We can go to dinner, just a normal dinner between two old friends"
"We are two old friends, always will be", he streached his long legs.
"And that is something that makes me feel good"
"Yeah me too, you are the greatest girl and I would always love you even if we are only friends"
"The best kind of friends, some people had betrayed me but never you Captain", he got up from the couch.
"I would come and pick you up at seven"
"Yes, I would be ready", he gave me a kiss on the face and left.
At seven sharp he came to pick me up, I looked rather nice, I knew it. He let out a whistle once he saw me.
"Wow, wow!"
"You look good yourself Mister"
"Not as good as you kid", I laughed.
"Where are we going?"
"We are having dinner and dancing"
"Oh well, I need the relaxation but don't try to romance me Captain"
"I won't, I promise"
"And you keep your promises?"
"I do"
We had a nice dinner and we danced all night, close and holding each other, I needed my good friend again, just by my side. When the night was over he took me home.
"Would you be good?"
"Yeah, I would", I answered.
"Just call if you need me, remember I would be waiting for just one word from you"
"Thank you for such a nice night, I needed it"
"All over the jerk?"
"You bet"
"I won't go up there, is risky", he smiled.
"Be back soon Captain"
"I would be back to check on you, love you kid"
"I love you too"
He left and as I saw him pulled away from the drive away tears felt down my eyes, Nick had always been a good friend, I wondered why I never felt in love with him, he would it had made me happy but life is not easy besides we were good friends and that was worth it to me...
