I walked into the school. There seemed to be a disruption throughout the students. It must have been from the party last Saturday. It was big, everyone was there. I passed some seniors that were at the party. As I passed I heard my name. I must have done some crazy stuff Saturday. I don’t remember. I spotted Amber and Mary down the hall talking. I ran up to them.
“Hey Amber, Mary” I say. My voice was kind of raspy. I must be coming down with a cold.
“The party was so crazy.” Mary says adjusting from one foot to another.
“Yeah, I can’t remember a thing” I say
“I know, I wish I could know what happened right before. I mean she must know who did it. I just can’t believe it happened” Amber says leaning on the locker.
She must mean when Macy was on mechanical bull and I cranked it up to 20 and she went flying.”Yeah? Ya think so?” I hope Macy doesn’t know. I should stay away from her today.
“Yeah” Mary says. We all got quite. My name was in everyone’s mouth today. I must have really been drunk. Across the hall there was a picture of me.
“Oh God! What did I do?” I turned to Amber. “I’ll be right back okay?” she just looked at me then sighed and closed her eyes. I took that as an okay. I zigzagged through kids till I got to the wall. Under my picture said ‘Driving under the influence.’ “I still got home that night. They didn’t have to use me as an example.” First bell rang and I ran to Amber and Mary.
“Lets go” Mary says.
“Okay, yeah lets go” Amber and me say in unison. I giggle but Amber and Mary just walk away. Had I upset her the other night? Whatever.
I go through the day quite. I didn’t want to make Amber any madder at me. At the end of the day, Mr. Neal’s math class, Amber, Mary and I all got up and went to Mary’s locker.
“So umm are you going today?” Mary asks sheepishly.
“Where I want to go” I whine.
“Yeah. But we can’t wait black. Mackenzie wouldn’t want us to.”
“What? Why wouldn’t I want you to wear black?”
“Yeah, no pink either. She hated that color” Mary said.

“Why do you care? You’re talking like I’m not right here!”
“It is her funeral after all. We should commemorate her style” Amber said. “Hey! Kelly, are you going to Mackenzie’s funeral?” what!? I’m not dead, I’m right here!
“Yeah” Kelly says.
“What? I’m right here, what are you talking about?” I wave my hand in front of Amber’s face. I smack her arm. Or at least I tried. My hand passed right through her. She places her hand where mine went through.
“I still can’t believe she’s dead.” Kelly says.
“She was in that accident in the way home from the party.” Mary said.
“What? No I wasn’t” my voice cracked I jumped in front of them. To stop them. So they can see me. They all pass straight through me. My eyes bugged, my breath caught. I remembered the poster with my picture. How no one was really listening to me, how everyone was looking right through me. I fell to my knees.

I, Mackenzie Molina, was dead.
