Overtaken

I sat with my back pressed against the wall, hugging my knees trying to breathe, think, anything. I let the tears roll down my cheeks as I tremble trying to hold back my sobs. My heart raced as I slowly peeked around the corner, a black shape moved like a shadow, hissing and wailing. I turned back letting my head rest against the wall. I looked down the hall to my right, it was dark but I could see a white door at the end. I quietly stood up and started sprinting in one motion. I ran, my converse barely touching the ground before coming up again to take another step. The door swung open without a sound, why wasn’t it locked? All the rooms in this house were locked. I cautiously stepped in, closing the door behind me.

A chair squeaks across the room. Every muscle in my body tenses, I seem to freeze over. My mind floods with fear, consuming every part of me.

A not quite human male voice cackles, a light flickers to life, forcing me to look into his pure black eyes. Millennia of killed souls swarm in his eyes, looking for a way out, and I’m his next target of pray. A key dangles from a pocket in his black robes. He lunges for me, I fall to the ground rolling over, but by the time I’m facing up he’s already on top of me. He stares into my eyes, taking apart my soul, β€œReady to join your friends?” I close my eyes.
