This is one of those scary types of storms. The kind where the sky goes dark when there should be hours of daylight left. The kind with the bright, startling flash of lightening; the earsplitting boom of crackling, angry thunder; the rain slanting in, pouring down the windows. You're stuck at the office, and know that you still have to drive home in this rage of the heavens.
You look out the window to see droplets of water sliding around, colliding, the wind temporarily defying the laws of gravity, causing them to go up, then left, right, then up again, dancing around in a synchronized tango. Then the gale subsides for a moment, letting gravity take over again, and the drops swim downward, down, down, forty stories to the ground where they pool and meet up with other unwanted nuisance.
Above, there is a solid black cloud, stretching as far as you can see in one direction, but in the other, there is a patch of bright white clouds. Suddenly, the rain stops. Another flash of of lightening illuminates the sky, and it's part of a minute before the boom sounds, dark and crashing. There is a siren in the distance, breaking the now ominous calm, and you wonder who the unlucky person was that was thrown off course fy this rattling storm.
You go back to work, only to be disturbed minutes later by the sharp ring of the phone.
"Hello?"
