A young boy, aged just five, aimlessly wanders around the busy urban streets, not a care in the world, as innocent as a new born baby, just a carefree soul. No one takes any notice to him, they don't see he is alone, no parents with him, no one holding his hand, no one calling his name from down the street, just him and hiself. People are crowded on the pavements, all business people dressed in suits and ties with a briefcase in one hand and a mobile phone in the other next to their ear. Still the little boy just wanders, amazed by the world around him. Although the air is filled with the scent of coffee and cigarettes, he still remains bewildered. Towering buildings stand like giants and bask in the sun, spreading an orange tint on the pavements. Cars whizz past in the morning rush hour. Traffic starts to build up on the main street road as red lights stop the rushed employees wait impatiently for the lights to turn green. Suddenly a car's horn amplifies a low, aggressive beep. The little boy jumps and whimpers, not realizing what it was. He starts to run through the crowd of people, still no one taking notice to the colourful child. He wears a red top with a denim dungaree and small sneakers. He continues to run throuigh the everlasting crowd of suits. Finally he comes to a set of steps leading down to a subway station. He quickly trots down the stairs, as if he is running from something. He comes to the main station. A train door opens, he runs towards it but it closes just before he reaches it. The train speeds off. The child waits on the very edge of the train tracks, still no one takes notice as they are occupied with their mobiles and coffees. The little boy zones out while balancing on the tracks. His foot slips and he stumbles into the train tracks. He falls to the floor but quickly returns to his feet. He tries to jump up the tracks but to no avail. He shouts for help, but no one listens. A loud horn sounds from around the bend. He screams for his life, pure terror in his eyes. A train whizzes around the corner and continues to accelerate. As he tries one last time to pull himself up off the train tracks, he finally lifts his torso over the edge of the train tracks but still his legs dangle over. He squirms forward but its too late. The train collides with his legs and snaps them off without effort. A quick crunch echoed throughout the subway station. The little boy lay there, a pool of blood formed around him. He stopped screaming. A train pulls up outside the station. A group of commuters rush as the doors open. Still the little boy lay there lifelessly and still no one notices even though their sparkling black shoes become smothered in red. Hours pass of people continuing to get on and off the trains, the little boy still lay there dead. Footprints of blood are now speckled throughout the subway station. No one cares, no one notices, just a fly on the windshield.
