Witness

β€œI call Jasmine MacLaddy to the witness stand,” the lawyer stated.
I walked up to the witness stand and sat to tell my tale. All eyes were on me, and I felt nervous. But I had to tell what really happened that day. So I repeated the truth oath and got started.
β€œIt was July, 16, 2003. I was walking with my best friend, Tina, to my house. Tina went to the bathroom while I got snacks.”
β€œThen I heard Tina say β€˜Hey, aren’t you -- AAAEEEKKK!!!!!!’”
β€œRight as I was about to open the door, I heard another inhuman scream. Then as I stepped up to open the door, I heard a gruff, yet female, voice say β€˜Nobody come in or this girl gets it.’ I opened the door just a crack. I then saw what I hope nobody in this room, no this world has to see again.”
β€œI saw my best friend up against the wall with a knife at her throat. She looked like a rabbit caught in a car’s headlights. She signaled to me, with her eyes, not to make a sound. I heard her frantically try to persuade her not to do anything stupid. I realize now that I could have closed the door silently and called the police. β€œ
β€œI watched helpless, paralyzed with fear. I knew that if I made any sound, that she would kill Tina. I heard her ask if there was anybody else in the house. I heard her reply that there was nobody else, trying to protect me as always. As I saw the knife bite into her skin, I started to cry. The thing (for no human would usually do this with out a reason) turned to the sound.”
β€œI turned and ran. I was almost at the jail, when my cell phone rang. It was either Tina or the thing. I answered it.”

β€œI was hoping that it was Tina calling to tell me that she was alright. That she had been able to escape through the window when I had started running and distracted the thing. Of course, it does not always turn out the way we hope.”
β€œIt was Tina, but she was not calling because she wanted to. She said β€˜The person, she says to tell you that if you go to the police then she will--- ’she broke off crying, β€˜she says she will kill you and your family. She says you must not tell anybody she was here. EEEEEEEKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’ It was a scream even more horrible than the first. I remember thinking that it sounded like someone was dying. Then I realized that someone was dying. Tina was dying, I thought with alarm.”
β€œLet Tina be a lesson to you,” the thing said.
β€œI started screaming. When I had finally calmed down I called my mom, and asked her to come get me.”
She said, β€œI thought I told you to go straight home. Didn’t I tell you that there was an escaped convict on the lose?”
I replied with some crying,” Me staying at home wouldn’t be good when the convict is there.”
β€œWHAT?!! Where are you?”
β€œThe jail.”
β€œI was hysterical when she got there. I told her what had happened. She kept saying that she was so sorry and that it would be okay, eventually.”
β€œThen when we got home, we found my horse acting funny and my puppy, Sunny, missing. Then we found a note saying, that if we ever told the police, our dog would die like Tina. Then I screamed. I went to see if my horse was okay and found her dead. When we watched the news that night, we found out happily that the escaped convict had been caught.”
β€œI am here today in this courtroom to tell you that that thing right there, killed my best friend and my horse. I am here to tell you that she dog-napped my dog. β€œ
β€œI want her to go to jail for life.”
β€œThat is for the jury to decide.” The judge said. β€œThis court is now recessed, be back within the hour.”
As I got up to go outside, I passed the convict.
She said, ”Your dog is already dead, you can't save it, brat!”
When we got back to the court room, the jury had reached the verdict.
β€œThe accused is found guilty of all charges. She is hereby sentenced to life in jail and 5 years of community service.” The judge said. β€œCourt dismissed.”
