Sirens

The decision that saved my life

I grow up in a wrecked neighbourhood. There were drug dealers everywhere, killing every day, and sirens every minute. My parents were drug dealers as well and I got caught up in the drug dealing business at an early age. I were there way of transporting drugs. I never knew that is was wrong until that day I was behind jail gates. At that moment I reflected on everything that I did to the hour now.

Since I was nine years old I would walk through the crowded street of Port of Spain, going through dark and lonely alleys just to accomplish my mission. Which was to give Bigspliff a black suitcase that I never once opened since mom and dad warned me not to. After completing my mission I would head right back home with a white envelope to give to my dad. He always praised me of being such a good child, that I never knew that I were heading down the wrong road, until this day.

Teachers and pastors will always try to help me, but it was as if they wanted to know my business, they never cared they just wanted to gossip about you. So, I never opened up to them. I were always the bad child, the one that caused the most trouble and never accept corrections. Why should I?!?

I always thought that I was right until this day. Iโ€™m in this cell for two weeks now, all of the persons who I thought was my friend, proved to me that they really arenโ€™t my friend, because I sitting in a cell all alone with no one to talk to. Well, thatโ€™s what I thought until this tall dark guy dressed in a dark blue suit showed up, standing right in front of me, the only thing separating us was the steel gate. He looked so familiar but I still canโ€™t figure out where I meet this guy.

โ€œHello Johnson, how are you?โ€ I didnโ€™t replied to his question, instead I just shrugged my shoulders.

โ€œDo you remember me Johnny?โ€™โ€™ The dark guy asked.

โ€œWho are you? What do you want from me?โ€ I questioned him with an irritated look on my face.

โ€œYou donโ€™t remember me?! Iโ€™m pastor Edwards.โ€ He replied. I was shocked and speechless right now. How did he know that I was here?

โ€œIโ€™m going to guess that you are thinking why I am here? Well I found out last night that you are in here for 2 weeks now. I met your father at the road side, I asked him for you since I canโ€™t tell the last time I saw you at church. He told me that youโ€™re in jail for some time now. So I decided to pay you a visit, and see how you are doing.โ€ Before I can replied, he continued.

โ€œJohnny itโ€™s not too late for you to change your lifeโ€ I stopped him right there.

โ€œForget it, Iโ€™m not in the mood for any long conversation, I already have a plate full on my mind already.โ€ I said to him, turning my back to him so that we can get the message, and leave me alone.

Pastor continued โ€œJesus sent his only begotten son into the world, for who so ever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting lifeโ€. He waited for my response but I continued to ignore him.

โ€œDonโ€™t you want everlasting life Johnson? Your life doesnโ€™t end here, itโ€™s not too late to change your life and live for Christ. God are willing to forgive you if you ask him to.โ€

I sat there and think intently on how I want to live my life. To be honest I never dreamed in being in this place right now. It was that time, then and there that I noticed I was going down the wrong road which leads to destruction. It was then I finally accept that I was wrong, and it was then I changed my life and give it all to Jesus. And church this is my testimony. You see god talks to you but if you donโ€™t listen, you wouldnโ€™t hear him and so you will be left behind.
