After years of partying, drinking, beautiful men, and endless sex… he simply sat down and said he was tired. The activities that once gave him pleasure simply didn’t fulfill him any longer. He found himself doing things just because they were things to do and it was better than sitting at home alone. He reflected on all the years that had passed and realized that being part of “the scene” only brought him drama. He told me he wasn’t really into the whole counseling thing, but he felt that he was running out of options.

I asked him to quiet his mind and remember a time when he did something that he was passionate about that wasn’t connected to “the scene”. He mentioned that there was a time when he liked to draw. He said he wasn’t very good at it, but he remembered he felt happy whenever he did it. I asked when was the last time he drew and he mentioned he couldn’t even remember. I then asked why and he responded that he didn’t have the time. I handed him a blank piece of paper and a pencil and asked him to sketch. He asked “Right now?” I said yes… all any of us ever have is “right now”.
