“I -I can’t.” Her voice was filled with guilt, eyes with fear.

“It’s easy – point the barrel at your temple and pull the trigger,” Roy said, leaning back on the chair.

“This is insane!” she protested.

“I’ll take the first shot, then”. Roy took the revolver from her hands and aimed it at his temple.

“Don’t!” Click.

“5 rounds to go; one bullet. Your turn,” Roy said, tossing the gun into her lap. She flinched.

“I love you.” Her voice was barely a whisper.

“That’s why I am asking you to do it. Prove your love.”

She closed her fingers around the butt of the gun, her fore-finger on the trigger.

“Do it, now!” he roared, banging his fists on the table. Impulsively, she pointed the gun at her head and pulled the trigger.

Click.

She was shaking like hell, her mascara running down her cheeks.

“4 more rounds; one bullet. Hope I get lucky this time,” Roy said, chuckling. He took the gun and pulled the trigger at his head.

Click.

Her turn. Click.

“Fifth one is always tricky.” Roy closed his eyes, the gun at his head.

Click.

“How can I trust my love, when even death betrays me?” Roy asked, a tear escaping his eye.

Claire took the gun and pointed it at her temple, her glistening eyes fixed on Roy’s.
