Chapter 2 - Formal Ceremony
And for the next three days everyone and everything was good. Almost, as good as gold, granted there were several minor issues, but those were dealt with less stress and energy than the others were. Friday morning was what really had most people on edge, because both the head student and the official head guardian was going to be off campus. And on a completely different planet, for a complete four days. And again that would more likely be a week and one day, for you all on planet Earth. Once we were all packed and ready to go, the headmistress made everyone promise that we would all come back in one piece.
We got to the Stolian Royal family guest houses and were settled in, their head Guardian came to inform us that we were summoned to an audience of the Queen and King. We walked to the throne room in complete and utter silence, most of us were dressed in formal wear in all black, yet some of us decided to go with bright colors. And by some of us I am referring to Elizabeth and Britany, deciding to wear bright blue dresses. I was actually dressed down for this, it is not in my nature to upstage royals. I found that out a long time ago. Some royals don’t take to kindly being upstaged by those that are severally below them. And no I may not be that much lower than royals considering the fact that the Jaren Family has just as much if not more money and status than most Royals. Yet, most can and are very pretentious about being up staged. Not that I am ever going to try that again. Even though I was just a kid at the time.
“Well, look who we have here. Oh, my they do look exactly alike. It’s amazing, they’re beautiful. Uh… who would have thought it? I will never understand the use of such a dreadful color. Can’t you Guardians wear brighter colors, like these two? I mean they look lovely. And you all look right down dreadful. So, which one of you is Rachel?” the Queen asked.
“I am Your Majesty.” I answered.
“Well, you look dreadful in that bland color. Sweet heart, you are the one who saved my daughter from those idiots in Becerra. I mean those fools want something that isn’t up to them or anyone, but my child. Can I ask you, why you saved my daughter from them without being required or asked?” she asked.
“I had already been in an altercation with them once before and found they’re need for abusive tactics to be over the top. I found them to be easily incompetent. And under prepared for any real attack they could or may ensue upon those that don’t seem to be their ally. I personally know how brutal that they can be. I am not one to be understandable about people fighting with someone who is not an equal in the field. Ma’am. Plus, it is what my parents would have done and to not help when I know that I can be of serious help, would be letting them down. That’s all. But, I’m sure you don’t want to hear what I have to say so much, that you have something to tell me, Your Majesty.” I answered.
“I do, you are right about that. But, that can wait. I knew your mother, she was a friend of mine when, we were children, when we were your age. Hell, by then we were more like sisters than anything else. I have the upmost respect for what you stand for. She was injured once while saving me, she was pregnant with your brother Zane. Who I can has grown into quite the respectable young man your mother and father would be ever so proud. I was and still am proud to have known her and him, while calling them my friends, my family. Hell, they were supposed to be the ones that took care of my children if anything were to ever happen to me or my husband, because he is an only child from his parents, while I have a single brothers, and they were as well as their parents and they all happen to be dead. So, your mother and father were my childrens’ god parents. I miss them a lot. I am sorry, a Queen should never be seen crying, in public. Even in the public of her own home. But, what can I tell you I miss the only real sister I ever had. I’m sorry if I’m upsetting you by all this, but I thought that you ought to know.” She told me. I tried like hell not to let any of it show, but I’m almost positive that no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t help, but wish that I could bring my mom and dad back. Even if it was just for a little while.
Nothing in the world could help me understand what would stop them from coming to see me like my aunts and uncles have. Hell, they have even come to see my brothers, but for some reason they have never bothered to come see me in the entire fourteen years. It was the first time in my life that I had ever heard someone refer to my mother as their sister even though she wasn’t. To hear my mother being regarded as someone I would want to be myself one day. As someone who should have got to raise her children, all of them not just her sons. But her daughter as well. I know that she was seeing that written across my face, but I couldn’t stop it or change it before she saw.
“What’s wrong? Something seems off, are you alright? I didn’t mean to upset you.” She reassured me.
“No, you didn’t. It’s just that I’ve never heard someone talk about my parents that way, so it seems that it just took me a little off guard that’s all. I apologize. Does she ever come and see you, either of them?” I asked in tears. Which for me is as big a deal as it is for her, I don’t think I have ever even cried in front of Elizabeth, Amy, and Brittany. So, this was a huge deal. Hell, I am sure that Zane would find a reason not leave me alone for several hours over this. “Yes, why? Hasn’t she or your father come and seen you?” she questioned me.
“No. Never.” I said.
“I’m sure she has a reason for not coming to see you just yet. She will eventually. She might just be making sure you are able to deal with her death, before she comes to see you. She might even need time to come to grips with the fact that she can’t raise you like she did you brothers. Same can be said for your father. They were good people and I know that they have a really good, no great reason for not coming to see you just yet.” She told me.
“Ma’am, if that is all, I would like to take a moment by myself. If that is alright by you, your Majesty?” I asked.
“Ok, that sounds good. And again I am very so sorry that I upset you any way.” She answered me.
“There is no way you could have or did, your Majesty.” I informed her before leaving her in the main council chamber.
Once I left her I went straight back to my quest quarters before anyone could find me. I needed to think to myself for a moment. And I know that the only way that I am going to get to do that is by writing it down some where instead of actually thinking even though I can block all others from reading my thoughts. So, I got to my journal and started putting everything down as fast as I could before Huegi or Zane heard me thinking about any of this. Once I had taken the time that I had felt was appropriate to take I went to find out what else the Queen had to say to me and apologize for leaving before hearing what all she had to say to me.
“Your, Majesty. I need to apologize for leaving before hearing what you had to say to me, in full. That was very disrespectful of me and I hope to gain your forgiveness.” I informed her once the guards were told to leave. Only cause in most of our cultures apologizing for the same thing that I was, could get you locked away for disrespect to the Ruling Queen or King. So, I knew better than to say any of what I had to say in front of anyone with authority in this region.
“Personally, I was going ask you to take a moment to yourself before I finished had you not done so yourself. You have absolutely nothing to apologize for in book. But, Rachel it was smart of you to wait until the guards were gone from the Council chambers. They can be a little too enthusiastic about people showing my husband and me, the respect that they think that we automatically deserve. But, onto what I was needing to tell you. My husband and I still thank you. As for the ceremony, we will be hosting this evening, in fact. I don’t think it’s too early. And we were kind of hoping to be able to see your talents tomorrow. We would be honored to see you in action. You are aware that your mother received the very same medallion, that you are about to receive. I know this is a sore subject, but I want to know that she is very proud of you. One of my many gifts from our Goddess Abbya, is that I can sense whether someone is proud of others or very disappointed in them. And I know she is extremely proud to know her daughter is following in her footsteps. It is actually a good thing that you wished to speak to me in private. I was going to go through the proper channels to speak to you again in private.” She told me.
“I don’t see a problem with that. And thank you. I needed that.” I answered her even though she wasn’t asking me anything, in a direct or indirect way. I felt it was going to be good things seeing as there has not been anything bad happen due to me. And for what felt like forever she just sat there and stared at me.
As it turns out she had sat there staring at me for over forty minutes. And that was only because someone came into the throne room looking for the Queen. She had me stay in the room as a temporary guard while she conducted business. The man and the Queen seemed to be going at each other pretty hard. It didn’t let up until Prince Derek walked into the room, asking why on earth his uncle and mother were having such a heated discussion in front of such a well regraded guest.
“Why, are you standing there? Don’t you see that they are having a discussion?” He asked.
“The young lady is in here upon my request, young man. And so far she seems more contempt with protecting me and you than she does with concerning herself with or of my business. Derek this one Rachel Elaine Jaren. She is the young one that saved your sister. The one that here in a few sort hours will be receiving the Stolian Family Medallion. Be the respectful person that I raised and introduce yourself to the young woman, then mind your business.” She told her second to oldest son. Well, she more like reprimanded him in front of me.
“Miss Jaren, it
