Spirit In The Sky
There lived in a forest far away a little deer named Riverdance. He would frolic through the forest greeting all his forest friends and their family everyday. Everyone in the forest loved this little deer very much and always looked forward to his visits everyday. He was always so full of energy and enlightened spirit with a heart of gold.
One day Riverdance was playing hide and seek with his friends, Sammy, Ruby and Cindy. Rifiverdance was the first to count while his friends hid behind trees, inside logs and burrows.
โOkay, here I come,โ he called out after counting to 100.
He turned and began his search, but then heard a cry for help not too far away. He abandoned the search and followed the sound until he saw his mom struggling with a rope around her neck and a man trying to pull her toward him. His mom was now gasping for air and charged toward the man to free his mom. The man stumbled backward and tripped on a rock letting the rope slip from his hands. His mom was free, but then the man quickly jumped to his feet and grabbed a rifle nearby aimed it at Riverdance and fired a shot.
โRiverdance, NO!โ Cried Cheyenne
Cleo sudden anger became rage and charged and knocked the man down before he could fire a shot at her. She saw him fall and hit his head on the same rocked he tripped over when Riverdance knocked him down. Then she walked over to her son and gently brushed him with her nose to see if he was still breathing. She nudged him again and saw his eyes slowly open.
Riverdance, felt cold and shivered as he began to slip away into darkness. Then he heard a breath on him and then a nudge and able to slowly open his eyes. He looked up and saw his mom standing at his side with tears flowing from her eyes. โMom?โ He managed to say.
โShhhhh! She said sadly. Donโt try to speak.โ
She then laid beside her son and tried to comfort him as she groomed his tears. She could see he was in a lot of pain and knew she was about to lose her only son. Just then his friends showed up, and slowly walked toward them.
โWe heard a loud sound and came running.โ Said Hoppy.
โWhat happened?โ Asked Cindy, sadly when she saw Riverdance lying on the ground with a patch of red substance streaming down from Riverdanceโs side.
โI was attacked and he tried to save me, but then I heard a loud sound that echoed through the air. Then I saw my son fall to the ground. I felt so much rage building up afterward and knocked the man down.โ
โIs that him over there?by the rock?โ Asked Sammy
Cleo looked over where Sammy pointed and replied, with anger in her voice.
โYes.โ
Riverdance opened his eyes again for a brief moment and saw all his friends gathered around, before he took his last breath, and slipped into darkness forever. Within moments he felt as if he was floating in air. He turned and saw his body was still lying on the ground. It was then he saw his father who has passed a year after he was born.
โHi son. His father said. I am so sorry this has happened. It was not your time yet, but you are here with us now. We are all here to guide you to a peaceful journey.โ
Riverdance glanced over his dadโs shoulder and saw others just like him smiling at him and asked.
โWho are they?โ
โThey are our ancestors from centuries ago. Come, we must go now.
โB-b-but, what about mom?โ
She will be alright. We will still be watching over her.
Riverdance glanced back at his mom while she stayed at his side - still crying. Sadly, he turned and drifted away into the sky.
Cleo heard voices nearby. She gave her son a kiss goodbye before she stood and hid from the oncoming strangers. All of Riverdanceโs friends also hid nearby. They saw humans walk around Riverdanceโs body, and him for awhile. Then they walked toward the man lying on the ground. It wasnโt long before they picked up Riverdanceโs body and rested it onto a pile of logs and branches. It was not long before Riverdanceโs body was turned into ash and blew into the wind and disappeared.
Cleo heard the humans say a few words as it appeared as if they were praying, before she watched her sonโs body cremated. She watched as his ashes were taken by the wind and disappeared into the sky. She was glad the right humans came along and respected her sonโs death with honor.
Later that night she cried herself to sleep. As she slept, she saw her son standing right beside her. He smiled and whispered to his mom.
โDonโt worry mom, I am in a better place now. I am safe with dad, and all our ancestors. You will be okay and we will always be watching over you.โ Riverdance then drifted away.
She then saw her husband appear, smiled and drifted off into the sky as well. It was then she woke up. She now knew Riverdance was in a safer place and as much as she was going to miss him for a very long time, she was somehow relieved knowing her son went to a better place.
The next day, she saw the same humans nailing a sign to a tree. She didnโt know what it said, but sensed it was for the safety for all life in the forest. She glanced toward the skies and smiled. โThank You!โ
