CHAPTER ONE

The book he was searching for was just in front of him. Sighing in relief, Aidan Murphy grabbed the book from it's old spine, almost tearing it.
He looked around and hid it inside his jumper, before walking about the shelves. As he brushed his cold hands togeth, he didn't notice two beady eyes followng him, watching his every move. He moved towars the fiction book racks, and unintrestedly, shuffled among them. He had the book he wanted, the only thing was passing through the old librarian, who as he searched for her, wasn't in her place. Being in a new town had it's perks; nobody knew him. He could do whatever he wanted and still not get caught and ruin his reputation.
As he headed towards the science fiction shelves, the person to whom the beady eyes belonged to stepped out from the shadows, alarming him.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Holy_", exclaimed Aidan, jumping towards the shelves.
The old librarian was glaring at him, with those half lidded beady eyes, waiting for him to explain his prescence.Aidan tugged at the hidden book in guilt, but faced her with a brave come-on-I'm-innocent look.
"What? Can't I borrow from the sci-fic section?", he asked.
"How old are you kid? And take that book you are hiding inside you coat", she said, still glaring at him.
Surprised, Aidan looked at the scary old lady, who was shorter than him, but was still scary.
"I'm eighteen", he lied.
"then show me your ID. go on, show it to me", she said, extending her frail arm in his direction.
Annoyed, he took the book from inside his jumper and handed it over to her, guiltily looking everywhere but at her. As the librarian looked at the book, her eyes rose up with surprise. She turned the book around and read the plot, and looked at him with wide eyes.
"What are you doing in the adults section with a 'case histories' book?", she asked, unable to hide her surprise.
As Aidan shrugged, she pointed him at the inner office, where the manager was, and he, looking miserable, followed her, taking his mobile phone from his pocket.
