I’m sharing a dorm room with a girl that hates my guts. Truly I am the single luckiest girl on the face of the planet.
Her name is Jasmine and she is a real ball of sunshine. She’s bossy, rude, just because she’s three years older than me she acts like she’s a supreme being, and lastly she is annoying as hell. She hogs the bathroom and takes the longest showers. Last night she took a chair in there. The fact she’s half Kelpie explains a lot.
Acording to my new friend Mia, Jasmine has dated a lot of human guys. I have no trouble believing this. Jasmine is very pretty. She has huge blue eyes and long black hair. A figure much better than my own.
I hate her.
Well enough ranting about her. How about I talk about the actual school aspect of the Academy?. I love it.
When my dad was teaching me I mostly learned about all the things he found important. My dad being a surgeon I learned all about the human body. At the academy I wanted to learn everything I could about anything I could.
My favorite was English though. My teacher Mr. Clarence was awesome. During every class he had us work on writing short stories and poems and such. He would grade us not only on how well we spelled everything but also on how creative we were.
But one of my other favorites was Combat training.
“Greetings” A short woman with a halo of curly brown hair says as Kasey and I enter. We were only slightly late but still she glared at us like a hawk. “Miss Finch. Miss Archer. You are late”
“Sorry” I said “we got held up during English. I needed to speak with Mr. Clarence about an extention”
“It wont happen again” She paced “Our new students have not yet discovered I tolerate very little. If you don’t think you can handle it the door is that way”
“We can handle it” I told her pushing back my dark brown hair and tie it into a ponytail. “Isn’t that right Kay”
Kasey nodded and ruffled her wings a little.
“Good” She pushed some of her crazy hair off of her face and said “Its my job to keep you safe from hunters, and that’s just what I plan to do”
“Whats a hunter?” I ask feeling stupid even as the last word leaves my lips.
“Someone who hunts monsters and hybrids like us” Kasey answers. She pulls up her shirt a little bit. There is a large angry looking scar on her stomach “A hunter did this when he saw my wings”
“Oh my God” I say covering my hands with my mouth “That’s why my dad kept me hidden”
“Your one of the lucky ones” Kasey said pulling her shirt down
After class I’m sore. Its hard and intense and I love it so much.
Next on my list is first aid. Like I said my dad is a doctor so this class is very easy for me. I especially like it because of my partner, Logan.
He’s half slenderman. He enjoys this and dresses the part, always wearing a suit and slicking his hair back. He almost never leaves his seat, preferring to reach for things on the other side of the room with his long arms.
He’s very cute. I really like him and I think he may like me.
Well tomorrow I get to test this theory of mine. We are learning CPR. Since Logan and I are partners we will of course be doing this together. I am so excited and nervous when I hear about this.
At night I write a little letter to my dad. I leave out the part about kissing a hot slenderman boy tomorrow so I mostly talk about Jasmine and how delightful she is. I tell him about meeting Kasey on the plane and how I plan on being like a big sister to her.
I fold it carefully and put it in an envelope. I give the envelope a little kiss and hide it in my pillow case. I have a lot of downtime waiting for Jasmine to get out of the shower.
When she finally walks out I ask “Is there any hot water left?”
“Don’t worry” She says running a brush through her long wet hair “I saved you some”
Of course I’m stuck with a lukewarm shower. In the morning I’m asking for a room change. I pull on my sweats and a tank top and then I go to bed.
My first class is first aid. I spend a good thirty minutes brushing my teeth and apply some chapstick. I’m going to be ready for this.
I brush my hair thoroughly and head out of the dorm. I’m wearing the cutest outfit I own. Denim shorts, a red tank top and a black vest.
I walk to the school building and head for the first aid room. I breathe deeply and wait for Logan to show up. I check my monthly planner. I’m going to need blood at some point today. Its been exactly four weeks since I’ve had any.
Logan looks at me. He blushes and smiles awkwardly. I duck my head to cover my blush and create a curtain of strait hair to block him from view.
Mrs. B explains how we should do this and tells one of us to lie flat on the floor. Logan looks at me “Do you-“
“sure” I say getting up and lying down on the linoleum. Everyone else is already on the floor at this point.
Logan tips my head back and opens my mouth. He puts his cheek right next to my lips. I close my eyes and prepare for his lips to meet mine.
They do.
He breathes into my mouth once then twice. He pulls away and begins the chest compressions. In a weird way they feel kind of good.
I sit up and we switch places. I do the same thing to him and then its over.
“Hey Janette?” He asks sitting up
“Yes?”
“Tomorrow a few of us are taking a bus to Fairfax” He smiles at me “Want to come with me?”
“Sure that would be awesome!” I say a little loudly “Thanks”
“Cool” he says smiling. The bell rings “So I’ll see you then”
“Yeah” I tuck some of my hair behind my ear.
I pick up my bookbag and walk away blushing and smiling so wide my cheeks hurt. This really is a great place.
