Prologue

Summer, the perfect time to be alone, where no one will judge you, and when you don't have to worry about being mocked at school. Everyday i would go out and sit in my hammock while reading books about Astrology and palm reading. Palm reading and Astrology fascinates me, I check my horoscope everyday and look forward to reading a strangers hand. Everyone at school is afraid of me. Whenever i walk through the hallways i always hear people whispering about me. Sometimes, when i get near people who aren't afraid of me they would push me towards the lockers and call me names like freak and witch. But maybe I am one.

Chapter 1

"Melanie, wake up, it's your first day of school," said mom pulling the covers off me. I managed to get up and walk towards the bathroom slowly. I didn’t really realize how fast summer went by, and I was pretty dissapointed I had to face the students that hated me again. Mom still didn’t know how awful school was for me, and my twin sister Stephanie was ashamed of being my sister, so she would dye her hair to look different then me. My younger brother Nick and me are close, but now even he is embarrased to be seen with me in public. But I don’t blame him.

I wasn’t always the freak of the school, it was that day that I started experiencing weird things. For example, I would crave for something like a bottle of water in gym and it would appear in thin air. At the time I had tons of friends and I told them of what I can do, but of course they started laughing, and thought I was crazy. Each day I would discover something new like mind reading, moving things without even touching them and once I found a spell book in my locker. My friends thought I was losing it. Until one day when there was a party at mark’s house and me and my enemy Kate were dared to go into the woods that say to be haunted. We both went in and I was the only one who came out. I don’t really know what happened I thought Kate was behind me, at the time I didn’t really cared I hated her. My supposedly friends started sprending rumors about me and since then everyone thinks that I killed her.
“Melanie!” yelled Stephanie, as I jumped up startled.
“Ugh, Stephanie you scared me,” I said annoyed. Oh no, wrong reply!
“Really? I didn’t expect you to be, freak. Now hurry up were gonna be late for school,” said Stephanie rolling her eyes.
“I’m not a freak! Why do you care, we don’t even walk togeather,” I said with fury.
“Well mom thinks we walk togeather and she would make us walk togeather if she finds out we don’t. And Woah, I’m getting out of here before you kill me too,” she said running down the stairs.

See what I mean, I can’t even yell at her without her thinking that im going to kill her. Oh, why did I have to go in the wood’s that night, I thought. The police even questioned me! My mom thought it was ridiculous of them, but grounded me for going into the woods.

I then sprinted to my room to get dressed quickly. I hadn’t realized that I had been day dreaming all along. As I finished getting dressed I raced down the stairs to eat breakfast. I saw everyone seated in the dining table, my dad reading his newspaper, Nick picking his food and Stephanie staring straight into my eyes.
“What?” I asked uncomfortably
“ It’s just that your eyes are green and today there brown,” she said puzzled still staring at my eyes.
“Wow, your right darling,” said dad amazed, by this time everyone was staring at me eyes.
“But Stephanie, her eyes aren’t normally green there blue,” said mom confused.
“Nooo, her eyes are hazel,” interrupted Nick.
I was so disturbed by the conversation, my eyes aren’t green, blue, brown or hazel there grey!
“Guys my eyes are grey,” I said uncomfortably.
“Maybe she used her powers to change her eye…
“Oh were late for school,” I interrupted and grabbed Nick and raced outside.
“Melanie, your not walking me to school today,” Said Nick staring at his shoes.
“Well why not, I always walk you to school,” I said puzzled hoping it wasn’t because of my wierdness.
“Wellll, I’m in middle school now and, I’m a little big now,” said Nick
I knew he was lying, mom doesn’t let him walk alone and he was embarrassed of me taking him because his friends would make fun of him, Stephanie was talking him now, I had read his mind.
“Oh, ok,” I said and walked away to my doom…school.
