I wake to the sound of the waves hitting the beach. I rub my eyes and look up a the clock on the night stand, it was four O'clock sharp. I pull myself out of bed and get really for the day. I look at myself in the mirror and what I see makes me wish I wasn't me. My hair is white not blonde but white my skin was just as white, maybe with just a little color, most people say I'm pale for someone who lives in Hawaii, in my height I think I'm pretty good 5'3 but next to my best friend Sam I still feel short because she 5'6, but my eyes is what bother me the most they are purple. I don't know were I got them from, because my mom and dad have blue eyes.
I walk down to the kitchen where my mom is cooking breakfast.
"Hey honey," she says to me as I walk in. It was me and my mom, because my dad had died when I was only nine years old.
"hey mom I'm heading out to the beach to day with Sam" I tell her.
She looks up at me and give me a big smile. "Tell her I said hi" said my mom. With that I unload my dishes in to the sink, and head out to the car. It was a jeep not old but not new, it was blue and I love it.
At the beach I see Sam there waiting for me. "Hey Emily there you are, I thought you skipped out on my" Sam sigh out with relieve. Sam was beautiful with long dark brown hair and tan skin, with green eyes that where so bright. She was only wearing bikini bottoms and a surf shirt. "Well c'mon let's go" Sam said over her shoulder.
I knew where she was going, to the surf shop on the board walk. She hated to rent a surf board, but her dad owned the shop and she had her own collection. I followed her up the board walk.
I was so into my thoughts about the waves that hit the beach. Sam had always said I was a great surfer, if i just let go of me fear of the deep sea. But I just couldn't help it, because it was how my dad had died.
I didn't even see the boy standing right in front of me. And I smacked right into him, it didn't even seem to faze him, still in shock of my own clumsiness I reached out and grabbed the nearest thing, with out thinking I grabbed ahold of his shoulders. Where we touched my skin was on fire, the heat warmed me and sent shock waves throw my body. I put my hands on his chest and took a step back from him. "Umm... I'm so sorry I didn't see you there" I mutter. He had to be the hottest boy on the beach. He was tall about a foot taller then me with black hair that look like he had short hair and was growing it out, his skin was tan. "Hey it's my fault" he says
"Hey....um...you must be new, haven't seen you around" Sam said, coming up behind me. I took another step away from the boy. "Oh sorry this is Emily and I'm Sam, and you are?" Sam holds out her hand. The boy smiles but he was still looking at me, as he takes Sam's hand. Sam looks up at The boy, and says "Oh hey your eyes looks just like Emily's, I thought her eyes were rare."
This makes him look away from me and looks at Sam as if uncomfortable "Nice to meet you, my name is Adam, and yes I am new here" he said all in once, as if he was rushed.
"Hey there you are, Adam I been looking all...." a girl says walking up to Adam, but stops short when she see us. She looks at us as if we were strange, Adam looks up at her and says "This is my sister Rayna, Rayna this is Emily and Sam." Rayna looks over to us and a smile spreads over her face, not really touching her eyes. "Hey" was all she said to us.
Rayna looked like her brother with long black hair that went to her waist with tan skin just like her brother's. As I look closer I see she has purple eyes too.
All I can think about is the fact that my dad and Sam had been wrong about the rareness of my eyes, even google was wrong. Even though google as never did me wrong before.
Yet again, I was into my thoughts that I miss the part when Sam had asked Adam and Rayna to join us for surfing. I can hear Adam say "Yes that would be nice to join you guys, and catch some waves." I look down at my feet, my face turning red, wasn't bad enough that I ran in to him. Why did she have to invite him, as I stood there looking down at my feet is when I notice my left sandal was gone.
"Hey Emily, are you coming?" Sam yells over her shoulder as she starts to walk again, Adam and Rayna follow her. I look up and run after them, at the end of the board walk was where the shop is.
When we make it there Rayna mutters "Hey I think the shop is closed."
As she looks at the close sign on the door. "Nah I got this" Sam says walking up to the door. She pulls out her keys and starts to go throw them, when she finds the one she looking for, she fits the key in the key slot. She unlocks the door and opens it, she looks over her shoulder at us and says "No worries my dad owns this place."
Once inside, we head to a door in the back of the shop, this was Sam surf board collection room. Inside the room was walls full of surf boards, but the wall in the back was cut out to the open sea. The shop was so far from the beach it self that you didn't even hear the sounds of the beach goers.
"Ok guys pick a board that fits you" Sam boldly says with her arm out stretched.
*********
Now heading out the water with our boards in hand. Sam runs out to the water, then jumping into the water she lands on the board flowing out away from shore. Rayna follows close behind Sam, I pull off me sun dress and looked over to Adam as he pulls off his shirt. I lost my breathe at the sight of his chest, he was lean and strong looking. He has a tattoo on his right shoulder that stretched all the way to his chest.
The sound of his voice snapped me out of my thoughts, as he looks at me and says "Hey are you going in?" I looked up at his face. His eyes never leaves me, always staring at me as if he would look away I might disappear. All I can do is shake my head not sure I can form words.
I catch up with Rayna and we were a little away from the girls, out of ear shot.
"She's probably just wearing contacts," Rayna says. "They make them in that color you know."
I shake my head. "She's not wearing contacts. You saw her just like I did. She one of us."
"Are you crazy, look at her. She can't be one of us, look at her hair it's white."
I frown, she was right the hair color had thrown me off too- until I felt her skin on mine.
When she had grabbed ahold of me before she fell, didn't leave any doubts to what she was.
Sirens are always attracted to their own kind, it helps them find each other across miles and miles of ocean. But it's usually limited to water transmission. I never heard of it happening on land before, nor I ever felt it so strongly, but I know how it feels firsthand.
I could never react that way to a human, given how much I despises them.
I sigh and look over to my sister "Look I know it's unusual..."
"Unusual? It's impossible! Adam, wake up and look at the facts. Our genes don't come with the 'blonde' option."
I look over to her "Oh stop being so dramatic. She is one of us."
"Ok, let's say she is, how does she bleach over thousands of years of genetics out of her hair? Now tell me why she is hanging out.....no....friends with humans. Doesn't she know she's breaking the law right there..... In front of our faces. So tell me Adam why is that?"
I look down at my board "I don't know, maybe she doesn't know who we are."
"Stop bull sh*ting me everyone knows who we are, and even if she doesn't, our markings are in plain sight." She was true, the marking of Royals were on ours shoulders and every Siren knew it.
I take a deep breath, and looked over at the two girls, has they slashed each other, laughing. I just don't get it, I felt her skin, that hum of energy. But now in the the water I feel nothing, only the humming energy from my sister.
"Oh, no," Rayna groans.
"What?"
"You've got that look on your face."
"What. What look?"
"That look you have on your face when you think you're right."
