Jane Cornish looked up from where she was writing down all the reason that she shouldn’t go to the prom.

1) She had no one to go with.
2) Her parents had told her pacifically not to go out anywhere except school until they came back from their holiday on Spain.
3) All her friends were going with their partners.

It wasn’t the longest list, but it was enough for her to want to stay at home, and hide away under her duvet.
“Aren’t you ready yet?” Jane’s older sister Theresa asked “you have less than two hours before it starts.”
Jane sighed with longing “I’m not going” she said “I don’t want to be one of those girls that stand in the corner while everyone else has fun.”
Theresa frowned “would you rather be the girl that stayed at home while everyone else had fun.”
“Not at all” Jane said after a few seconds “but I have no one to go with, I will be the laughing stock for the rest of my school life. I will be remembered as the girl with no date for school prom.”
“You have to get technical” Theresa laughed “anyway, you only have a few more weeks of school left, so everyone will be to busy preparing for the real world to be gossiping about you!”
It was true, and it was the only chance that Jane would get to go to the prom.
She nodded slowly “fine I will go, but if anyone asks it is only because you forced me to.”
Theresa grinned with triumph “I knew you would brake, now come on so I can do you hair and make-up.”
Standing up, Jane just hoped that she wasn’t making the biggest mistake of her life.

By the time Theresa had finished with Jane she had been fake tanned, waxed, her long brown hair had been curled, and she had been forced into wearing false nails.
To Jane, all she needed to do was put on her gold colored prom dress and high heels and she would have been ready, But Theresa wouldn’t have any of it, she instated that she spent every minute she had left until prom making sure that Jane looked as perfect as she could.
After a while, Jane got used to having her sister fuss over her, and even started to have a little fun.
Looking in the mirror once Theresa had finished with the makeover, Jane was utterly gob smacked with the results.
Her usually static hair was curled perfectly, and danced down to her elbows, while her pale skin now looked sun kissed and healthy. The make-up she was wearing made her brown eyes look wider and lighter than normal. All together she felt like a different person, a princess from a fairy tale world ready to be rescued by her prince charming.
“Here you go, you can borrow this.” Theresa said, handing a small gold clutch bag to Jane.
“Oh, thank you Theresa” Jane said, giving her sister a hug “you’re the best.”
Theresa blushed “well everyone knows that!”
Looking at the time, Jane realized that she better hurry if she was going to make it there in time.
“I’m going to have to go now” she told Theresa, walking to the door “and thank you again sis!”
Before Theresa could reply, Jane was already out of the house and shutting the front door.
The taxi that Theresa had called for was waiting for Jane outside of her house.
She rushed into the back seat of it before the cold weather could give her the shivers.
Jane told the driver where to go, and relaxed into her seat.
It only took them a few minutes to get to the ball, so Jane braced herself for disappointment.

The inside of the ball room was set to make people feel awe, everything looked good enough for a god or goddess to have, and with all the pale creams and gold, Jane fitted in perfectly with the setting, as of it all was meant for her.
As she walked around, she couldn’t see any of her friends, but there were people that she recognized but never spoke to before, and each one turned to look at her with the expression of either shock of jealousy.
Even the school football players drooled over her, and their dates have her evil of eyes of hate and envy.
All in all, Jane felt better than she ever had in her whole school, life, like she had finally made people see her.
“Is that you Jane?” a voice close behind her.
She turned around to find herself face to face with her best friend Lucas Gray.
As she nodded, she turned a brighter shade of pink.
Even though they had never been anything but friend, Jane had always had a crush on Lucas, with his curly black hair, and dark toned skin.
He was like the boy that she would never have, but wanted the most of all.
“You look…great” he told her, rubbing his eyes as if to check if he what he was seeing was right.
“You don’t look that bad yourself.” She told him, looking down at her dress.
He then asked the question that Jane had wanted him to say “do you want to dance.”
Jane nodded eagerly, and took his hand as they headed for the dance floor.

They had danced through nearly six songs before Lucas wanted to stop to get a drink.
Been as it was too loud in the ball room, so they stepped outside to be able to hear each other talk.
There headmistress Mrs. Brown watched them like a hawk as she walked the premises of the large building, as if looking for her next prey to feast on.
“I thought you weren’t going to come” Lucas told her “that’s why I didn’t ask you to come with me.”
Jane blushed again “I wasn’t going to come, but, my sister forced me into it.”
“Thank god for your sister then” Lucas grinned “or I would have never have been able to dance with the pretest girl at the dance.”
Jane hardly thought that was true, there were prettier girls at the prom, and some of them hadn’t even got a date to go with.
She looked up at Lucas, who was closer than she thought he had been.
Slowly there faces got closer, and closer, and as there lips touched, Jane knew that this was the best prom that she could have ever wanted in her wildest dreams.
