As soon as I saw her, I knew that I would soon make her to be mine. Okay so that’s a bit dramatic but she was a true beauty. Her hair was a golden sun, her eyes and spring leaf green and rosy pink lips. She was bent over her drawing, her face scrunched up in concentration. She looked up at the teacher, her eyes intent on learning something. She looked so calm and content, that I couldn’t take my eyes away from her so when she looked over at me, I looked away quickly noticing that she stared at me for a second, confusion on her face. I faked that I sneezed and she looked away when I tried to meet her eyes. She was in drama club. I don’t know that because I stalk her either, but I’m in the drama club, too. I looked at our professor (well our teacher but he says that he’s just trying to get us ready for college). I looked around at my fellow classmates and as my eyes fell on certain people I thought, well, getting some people ready. They were mostly stoners and girls who wanted nothing but to talk to boys. I was well over that hormonal stuff that makes boys act like dogs sniffing another’s rear end.
I laughed out loud at how absurd I sound; my professor looked back at me sharply. He told me to control my laughter and to do my work. I complied, shooting a look at the girl; my giggles put aside as I admired how she strokes the paper, her hands graceful along the sheet, her body sat regally, as though she were a queen. It wouldn’t surprise me if she was royalty. She pursed her lips and I thought of how it would feel to kiss her. Suddenly I heard a high pitched snicker to my left. I looked over at the person who made the disgusting sound and their eyebrows did an arch and looked at the girl then back at me. Carolyn Drastic. Heed her last name, she truly is drastic. She was pretty, yes, but not like the girl. She looked me up and down and in her eyes I saw a weird look that looked like lust. I turned away quickly, uncomfortable. I saw the girl look at me and I met her eyes. I smiled slightly and she gave me a small wave and a big, happy smile. When she smiled, it made me melt on the inside and I think she could see it, because she turned away, looking uncomfortable. I shook my head, thinking over and over again the same word. Stupid. Then the bell rang, I jumped out of my seat and ran out of the room, embarrassment echoing with every step.

“So looks like you’ve got a boy going crazy for you already, huh?”
I looked up at where the high pitched voice was coming from, startled for a moment. I smiled, as amicable as I could; I knew that she was no good. I stood up and held me hand out to her.
“Hi, I’m Juliette. You may call me Juli.” I looked at her and nudged my hand towards her some more and waited until she shook it to say the next part. “But only if you wish to. If not, then Juliette would be fine. You are?”
She sneered obviously perturbed at how nice I was being.
“Carolyn. Carolyn Drastic.” She said wickedly and I was immediately reminded of the wicked witch of the west.
I laughed, and said sweetly “So what boy were you talking about?”
“As if you don’t already know. The one who was watching you the whole class period. Roman Chelsey.” She popped her gum and rolled her eyes. I knew what boy she was talking about, the tall, tan one with black hair and grey eyes. He stood out among the class, there was no way she would have missed him. He was watching her, yes, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she wasn’t watching him too. Not that she would admit it to anyone. But why was Carolyn watching them anyways, well she didn’t see me looking at him, but she saw him looking at me, so that means she likes him, probably his girlfriend.
She looked at me, her eyes killing me with every penetrating gaze. “Well he’s my boyfriend, so you are just going to have to find another boy toy.”
I waved my hands acting like I was scared and laughed to show her I was kidding. “Carolyn, its fine. I don’t even know him so it’s alright for me. Trust me on this; you have no competition from me for a boy. Any boy, so feel free.”
As I said this, I didn’t see the boy standing behind me when I said it. Carolyn just smiled and when I told her I had to go to my next class, the boy wasn’t there and it was like he had never been there, and I was oblivious to it all. I walked to my next class and sat down next to someone and took out my books. I was so focus on what I was doing that when someone touched my arm, I jumped about a foot in the air. I swiveled towards them, my eyes wide. He held his hands in the air, and laughed. I immediately recognized him as the boy from my other class. With the drastic girlfriend. He was hotter up close. I smoothed my hair down, a self-conscience motion. He said something else and I shook my head, shaking myself out of my trance.
“So your name isn’t Juliette?” He looked confused.
“Oh no, it is. I must not have heard you correctly.” I said sheepishly.
He laughed, his eyes crinkling at the sides, his mouth opening into a smile. I looked at him in astonishment, until it seemed to dawn on me that I was staring. He held out his hand to me, the smile tugging at his lips.
“Roman Chelsey. Nice to meet you, Juliette.”
“Juliette Crestwood. Nice to meet you too, Roman.” I stifled my own laughter, but for other reasons. “It was nice to meet your girlfriend, too.”
He stiffened and if I was someone else, I would have hated myself for saying anything, but I’m not that kind of girl. I’m very straight-forward. But I do it in a nice way. I’m not rude or anything.

“Who said they were my girlfriend?” He asked.
“That girl, um,” I struggled for the name. “Carolyn Casket.”
He burst out laughing and continued for a good two minutes, his eyes brimming with tears, while I chuckled, not knowing the joke.
He struggled with his words but got out. “Her last name is Drastic. But Casket suits her better huh?”
I let out the breath I didn’t even know I was holding, my shoulders vibrating like his as we laughed and rolled like children. When class started, we pushed our laughter aside but whenever our eyes met, we would giggle, like a couple of gossipy girls. When the bell rang and we had switched numbers and all, we made our way to the cafeteria. He looked over at me as we walked into the room. It was bustling with activities everywhere. I grinned, thinking that it would be an adventure, picking out who I sit with and who I would get along with more.
“You could always sit with us, you know. If you wanna.” He looked nervously at the ground then up at me through his eyelashes. I smiled but shook my head.
“I like to do things differently. I want to meet everyone.” As I said everyone, I waved my arms, indicating all the people in the cafeteria. He looked at me like I was strange, and I shrugged and walked away, towards the lunch line. I got a salad and some fruit. I looked at the tables in the lunchroom and saw a bunch of people sitting at a table. I walked up to the table and sat down in a seat not taken. I looked at all the people at the table that just looked at me like I’d made the weirdest choice to sit at their table out of all the others.
“Hi everyone! I’m Juliette, but you can call me Juli.” I smiled at them, trying to make myself welcome. It worked when one of them said hello. Then after that one word, they all said hey.
One girl looked happy to have me sitting at their table. She held out her hand.
“Hi Juli. My name is Daphnie Clark. These are Jesse, Jordan, Kayden, Louise, And Mitchell.” I mouthed all their names and memorized their faces. I smiled at them all as their names were said.
“Nice to meet all of you.”
I looked at them closely. I knew that I would love this school as the new me.

I walked through the door and heard my mom chopping something in the kitchen, her eyes watering. I walked up to her and kissed her cheek and asked what was wrong. She pointed to the onion she was cutting and I laughed, wiping away her tears with the sleeve of my shirt. She smiled at me and asked how my day was.
“It was good as usual. Same old people every day. But there was this new girl named Juliette today.”
My mother swiveled around. “Juliette? Juliette Crestwood?” As I nodded, she looked into my eyes and held on to my shoulders. “Please stay away from Juliette, Roman. Please.”
I looked at her for a long time, trying to figure out why she would say something like that.
“I can’t exactly promise that, mom. She has caught my eye it seems.” I shook my head, smiling as I pictured Juliette drawing again. My mom shakes her head vigorously, disposing the idea. She stares me deep in my eyes, the way she used to when I did something bad. I got out of her grasp, my shoulders bunching.
“Mom, come on. You don’t understand.”
“No, I understand perfectly. You don’t want to start with the likes of her. Why don’t you ask that nice, pretty girl, Carolyn Drastic to be your girlfriend?”
I sneered. “Mom, that girl is trouble I’m telling you.”
She gasped. “Hold your tongue, Roman Michael Chelsey.” She turned back to her onions, her breathing labored. My mother was getting old; I realized as I took the knife and onion from her and started to chop it.
“Mom, maybe you should go to bed. You have work tomorrow and I don’t want to have to leave school again to come and get you, since you won’t just retire already.” I said, placing my words carefully.
She huffed but she turned and walked towards her bedroom. I hummed under my breath the words to a song I’d heard on the way over. So when she came back in the room I didn’t hear her.
“Roman? Please listen to me. She is no good for you.” Then she was gone.
I sat there contemplating what she said, my mind whirling. She was getting old, I decided. I thought about Juliette’s face and felt my heart swell. She was a person I knew I couldn’t live without. Now that I think about it. The more I think about how my old life used to be, I realized how bleak it looked. I stopped chopping and looked at what time it was, already yearning to be near her. I breathe out heavily thinking about a better day when she was finally in my arms.
