Blood was everywhere. I had no idea if it was my own blood, or someone else’s. There are thirty of us; twenty of them. On normal standards, we would have outnumbered them. But numbers didn’t count when you were up againts—
“Shark!” I heard the faint, high pitched scream. Silver-grey dorsal fins cut through the icy water; sleek, ten foot long bodies followed each. Occasionally I saw a trail of blood, or a flash of razor-sharp teeth. But mostly, I only saw the eyes. They were like magnets, pulling you in, freezing you in place; a deep, black, bottomless abyss. Or like Quint from 'Jaws' says, like a doll's eyes. A severed hand floated past me; sea-blue nails, a diamond ring on the ring finger.

I turned away when I saw a man being ripped apart by one of the bigger sharks; his screams tore through the night air. But then something strange happened. The shark let go of the man. The man saw me. He swam towards me.

The man latched onto me, his arm slick with blood and a grip like a vise. His eyes were rolled back in his head and blood was squirting from his gaping mouth. I tried to swim away but he wouldn't let go. I doubt he even knew what was going on. Then something tugged him, and he was pulled under the waves. I shuddered.

I could no longer feel my foot. A shark had munched on it for a while. The water was getting colder by the minute. If the sharks didn’t get me, the freezing cold water would. I could no longer hear the screams; my ear was caked with blood. A shark had nearly bit the whole thing off. I could make out people splashing and struggling againts the lethal creatures. I wanted to scream, and tell them to quit splashing; the sharks were attracted to the movements of waves. But I couldn’t. I could barely keep from splashing myself.
The water was now tinted a dark red. Blood. I could barely keep afloat. A piece of driftwood floated by me; probably from the wreckage of the boat. I grabbed onto it, then nearly jumped off it when my hand brushed across something that felt like skin. I could barely make out the face in the dim light of the moon. It was pale, smothered in blood, and then I realized that was all it was. I let the severed head roll into the water when I tipped the driftwood upwards. Ewww.
I laid my head down on the piece of scrap wood, breathing hard. I was now numb from the cold, and I wondered where everyone was. My eyes drifted shut, and I dreamed.

Chase brushed my hair from my forehead and leaned forward till we were an inch apart.
“I love you, ya know.” He murmured. I grinned, and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. “I know.” I told him. He leaned back down and gave me another kiss, then another, and another, till I pulled away and laughed.
“Easy, boy!” I said, grinning. He kissed me gently this time, and I sighed. Bliss.

I woke with a start, and almost fell off the wood. Chase….I thought longingly. He was my boyfriend. I was broken out of my fantasy when I felt something brush past my leg; sharks. They were back. I was going to die!! A searing pain traveled up the length of my leg, and a scream tore from my throat. No! I didn’t want to die like this; I would lose Chase. No, no. I couldn’t lose him. But now I was going to freaking die.
“Help! Help! Help!” I screamed over and over again. The shark pulled me under, and salt water entered my throat. Another shark rammed into the first shark, dragging me deeper in the process. My lungs ached desperately for air, and black and red dots wavered in front of my eyes. But then they vanished; the sharks let go of me and I clawed my way to the surface. When my head broke the surface, I breathed in the air like it was food, and I was starving. And speaking of food, I hadn’t eaten in…………….I don’t know how long. I passed out.
I drifted in and out of sleep, catching images of people, and sharks. I woke up once, and people started yelling; I fell back into unconsciousness.

When I woke again, all I could see was the color white. At first I thought, I’m dead. I’m in heaven, but then my eyesight adjusted. I was in a hospital. I was alive! I instantly sat up, but fell back down again when pain exploded in my head. A lady walked into my room. She must be a nurse. I sat up again, slowly this time.
“Ummm, hi. Am I in a hospital?” I asked. She looked startled to see me awake; I must have made a quicker recovery than I thought. She composed herself.
“You are. My name is Tammy. Would you like something to eat?” she said. I nodded my head enthusiastically. “Please!” I practically yelled. She smiled at my eagerness.
“Of course. I’ll be right back.” I laid back down. I was alive! I wasn’t dead, or shark-food. I tried to think more about the attack, but my mind kept drifting back to the food coming. Oh, sweet food!
When Tammy came back, I tore into the food like my life depended on it. Kimmy had an amused look in her eyes as I ate the food and watched icarly. My throat was raw from swallowing all that salt water, but I ate anyway. I was too hungry.
After eating, Tammy told me I had a visitor. Expecting my parents, I got ready to see them. But instead, it was Chase.
When he came in, I jumped out of the bed. Only to be stopped when I tripped and fell. Chase caught me in time, but not before I got a chance to see my leg. My leg from the knee down, was gone. I collapsed into Chase, sobbing. It was all just too much. He stroked my hair, told me it would be okay, everything a good boyfriend should do. But I was still scarred. And not to mention the fact, that I now have an enormous fear of sharks. But, then again…………….who wouldn’t?
