ECHOES

Lonely Boat

He was once an admired man. There would be hoards of people surrounding him. Laughter would echo through the night. No face would fall dim.
Now, as the winter moon glistened off the gentle waters, he sat there, rocking back and forth with an acoustic guitar in his tired hands. Only one muted note did he play. The rest were lost to him now. The only sound that echoed from that isolated vessel was the persistent sound of the creaking rocking chair. It was a sound to drown out all others; the past, the present and the future.

Grief

She sat at the edge of her bed with a pensive expression upon her face.
β€œAre you alright, dear?” her mother asked with worried compassion.
When she zoned in to her mother’s voice she saw it. He was there. Her heart jumped with an unrivalled joy. There was nothing in the world that she would prefer to see. He glided over to her in an instant, but in that same instant he was gone.
Had that been a mere mirage?
β€œI’m . . . ok,” she then muttered, in response to her mother. Her heart sunk once again.

What Goes Bump

in the Night?

As the boy ambled down the silent walkway, he came by a tunnel. It was growing dark and his nervous heart warned him of the dangers associated with such a place. There were other ways to go but their length was greater. He considered the shortcut for a time. Danger was

an exciting element. It was an idiotic choice but he took it nonetheless.
The wind whistled through the hollow passageway. It reverberated off the solid stonewalls. He gazed around anxiously.
A shadow!
People?
Monsters?
He finally reached the opening but turned as he left, for one final glance.
Empty.
