Chapter one
i felt the sword come down and slice open my arm. i gasp in pain and the tears silently flowed. the crowd surounding me was loud and filled with the same commands, "Kill her!","Murderer!","Show no mercy!"
one man came up and struck me across my face. another man brought forth a knife and cut open my cheek. blood oozed out but that didn't stop them.
one man, Cannon, came forth and punched me square in the jaw causing me to fall to the ground. i crumpled in a ball as he now continued to kick me in the stomach. the pain was too much to bear. tears and blood caked my face and limbs. bruises and cuts covered me from head to toe. my dark raven hair was matted down in clumps and my clothes were all torn. why wouldn't they just stop? will death ever come?
"Alright girl, why don't you face your punishment like a real person and quiet being so cowardly?"
Cannon spit at me which caused the crowd to go crazy. i felt a wave of nausa wash over me and combined with the pain made me immoble. i drew up some of the remaining strength i had and said, "You dare call me cowardly while you beat an innocent person. so who really is cowardly?" i said this bitterly through the pain. i saw Cannon's face go red and then felt his foot connect with my face. my nose suddenly gushed blood and the pain intensified.
i heard his sick sadist laughter as he went in for another strike. i quickly covered my face and waited for the pain and impact but felt nothing. i slowly uncovered my face and looked up to see what had happened. the silence was the first thing i noted, then i saw the man. he wore nothing but a dark cloak that hid his features. i peered up at him as he blocked me from Cannon.
"What do you think you are doing." Cannon bellowed at the mysterious man. the man just stood there and didn't offer any explaination as to why he was there. Cannon asked again in a louder voice, if that was even possible. the man finally broke his silence. the man's rich velvet like voice fill the air. "you dare ask me what i think i'm doing when you are beating an innocent child. She was right, you are a coward." Cannon roared with laughter, "And just who are you to talk. this," and he pointed at my crumpled form on the ground,"is a murderer and should be killed." the mystery man shouted, "Then why isn't she at a trial, if this is so?"
silence filled the crowd as murmurs erutpted at what was next said, "If she is indead a true murderer, why haven't you told the judge, or capitol persons?" Everyone stood there baffled. Cannon turned red once again and didn't say a word. ten, fifteen minutes past before the man spoke again. "Well then, if no one can offer an explaination, i shall do it myself and take her to the king." suddenly i felt relief and fear all at once. who was this man and why was he dong this?
the man slowly approached me as i lay there on the cold damp ground. he knelt down and picked up my shaking body. he set me on my feet and walked me quickly over to his horse. it was a little ways away from the crowd and center. he turned to me and said, "Do you want to come or not?" i stopped and pondered it. the crowd though didn't and came rushing towards us yelling and threatning us. i nodded at the man and followed him. he had to help me onto the horse becuase of the pain and tiredness. and with that we rode off into the hunters forest, and all the sleepless nights, pain, and tears, i sank into te darkness.
