Garrett smiled at his girlfriend, Miranda. Me. The blond who's always next to him. No one else can have him. He's my first love. I fell for him at first sight. I was a freshman, and he was a junior. Now he's a senior, and I'm a sophomore. I can finally drive to him instead of using city transit or my foster mother, Anna. I turned sixteen earlier this summer.
I clutched his arm tightly, so everyone knew he was mine. I wore a black camisole, extra thickening mascara, and a shade of lip gloss I knew he liked. This Friday was going to be The Night. There was a huge party that all the populars were invited to at Sara Dempley's. Sara is perhaps the most popular girl next to me. Before Garrett, I was a nobody that anyone with brains would never speak to in a million years. Because of Garrett's popularity, mine grew as well. Now I have friends.
A makeover, some layers and highlights in my naturally blonde hair, and I was all set. Afterr some convincing, Anna let me wear makeup. Sara took me shopping and I picked out new clothes. Stylish ones. Sara also happens to be my best friend. She's also another sexy blonde.
"See that new girl? That redhead?" Sara asked, pointing to an unfamiliar girl with curly red hair and a figure like Jessica Rabbit.
"Yeah, what about her?" I asked.
"I saw her flirting with Garrett this morning in Beauty Babe," she said. Beauty Babe is a beauty shop owned by her aunt and mother.
We were sitting on a bench that only we got to sit on. And this chick who'd flirted with my boyfriend was right in front of us. She studied us with judgmental blue eyes. A brown American Eagle purse was slung over her broad shoulder. I got up and approached her.
"Can I help you?" I asked, putting one hand on my hip.
"No, but you can get a new love life. Garrett's mine." she snipped snarkily. "I met him in kindergarten and he's my best friend. I've known him since forever. No way you can keep him."
"We'll see about that."
I sauntered back to Sara.
"Wow," she murmured. "What a whore. And to speak to you like we really are in kindergarten. She's got no taste, no personality. Garrett'll drop her like a hot potato when this gets back to him." I hoped she was right.
We walked to our table
