What is Peculiar?

I think back now, remembering what it felt like to live with my parents. It was definitely different.
Nowadays I have a fairly odd way of living with my partner, a vast collection of musical instruments and our curious house rabbit. It can be strange at times but nothing ever compares to the day I arrived home to my parents and saw the purple dragon in my brother’s armchair drinking tea. He was a very aristocratic character with his peculiar monocle and book of Arabian spices. When he spoke to me I was completely shocked. Since when do dragons speak?

Unknowing

The race began. I was giving it my all but I stupidly tripped over my own damn feet! Typical. This is why I don’t go running.
The falling was slow but I couldn’t move fast enough to combat it. My heart filled with dread as the ground got closer and closer.
Suddenly, the ground disappeared below me and I was falling into a deep black chasm. As I fell into the unknown an array of peculiar patterns passed me by. How . . . decorative! I hadn’t expected that. Then again, who expects the ground to vanish in the middle of a race?

Lessons In Life

If you wave to a magpie it won’t spread its sorrow. I know that now but I didn’t always. As a child I saw the cunning bird prowling. I never understood why people said β€˜one for sorrow’ until then. I took no heed and the very next day my silver encrusted Mona Lisa was stolen by that wretch! I now know that if he has a partner he will be a lot happier. So I make sure to ask as I wave: β€œHow’s the wife? How’s family?” That way, he is happy that I know how he is not alone.
