Key of Hope
I look around to find my mother by my side looking at me with a slight smile, then I noticed the sadness in her eyes, and see the tears flowing down her cheek; she turns her head all I’m thinking is, mother,.... Finally, after what felt like a century I decided to speak, to start the conversation. and I see a doctor standing at the foot of my bed with a big smile on his face relieved to see that I was finally awake.I waited, expecting him to say something; he didn’t I don’t blame him. I tried to ask my mom a few things like; β€œWhat am I doing here?,” What happened?,” β€œWhy is everyone sad?,” β€œWhere am I?.”I then realized that nothing actually came out of my mouth; not even a single noise. I noticed then that my mom was ready to tell me what was going on, so I sat up and waited til' she felt comfortable enough to notify me of the accident. "I'm so sorry honey I tried my hardest, but I just couldn't do anything. It's all my fault that this happened to you." I was going to attempt to talk again, but then decided to grab the nurse's notepad and pen to write to her. I was still only for a second before I began to write. 'Where am I? What am I doing here? What happened to me?' My mom hesitated only for a second then spoke aloud. "You are at the hospital Zoey." "You got into a bad accident driving home from work last night." She started tearing up thinking about how I couldn't remember anything. "What do you remember Zoey," she began starting to cry. I flipped the page and wrote "I don't know for sure momma." I must have blacked out because all of the sudden a bunch of nurse's and doctors were surrounding me asking if I feel any pain or if anything didn't feel right in my body. From then on things have gone well I have recovered a lot from the past, but I am still unsure about the accident. All I know is that my body is messed up, and everyone is scared of me because I'm different. Most don't understand what has happened to me and are afraid of it happening to them, but others have just judged me instead of getting to know me. Although most all the people are mean, I do happen to have one friend named Laura. She is the nicest person I've ever met from the minuite I saw her I knew she would be nice. You can tell from her looks that she is nice. From her brown wavy hair to her friendly blue eyes all the way down to her light pink socks with peace marked on the ankles. From the minuite I saw her I knew we were going to be good friends."Zoey I'm glad we became friends I don't know what I'd do without you." "Oh, Laura your so nice God thank-you for bringing her into my life and please let her stay forever!" She started to laugh remembering before the accident when she wasn't yet my friend, imagining what I would have been like before the incident. She nervously spoke up not sure if she should say the words she wants to. "Zoey, maybe it was for the best that you got in this accident." I felt so confused not sure how she could say that, so I start to cry asking myself why she said that as she poked in and said "No I meant it in a good way Zo, your my BFF,my sister, I'd never hurt you I meant that if you'd never gotten in the accident we would have never met and I can't live without you in my life, your my best sister for life and my life wouldn't exist without you." My eyes started to tear up more as she huged me and told me she loves me to death.Zoey! coming up the stairs yelling for me my mom wakes me up and tells me that breakfast is ready. I told her I don't want to wake up, but she insisted I do, because I have therapy for my aching body. Something was so different but couldn't figure out what it could be. I focused a little bit more on my face and realized that my scars were fading a little bit. I had a rush of excitement and screamed, "Mom come here look at this!" All the sudden you can hear thuds up the stairs really fast and as a head pops in the door you can hear a terrified voice screech, "What’s wrong honey? Are you hurt?” β€œNo mom,” I said. β€œLets go.”Once at therapy I changed into some pajamas so I'd be cozy while waiting til the end of therapy. Today we were making sure my body was able to move comfortably. My muscles kept tightening up and spazing out so eventually, she gave me a message to loosen them. In the end she gave up and gave me some medicne and a prescription to get my own. After therapy we ran to Walgreens where they didn't even know what kind of medicne it was. After my mom realized they truly didn't know about my medicne, we went to Walmart and they had a full bottle ready to sell. My mom got mad when she saw the price, almost eighty-five dollars! While we were there we picked up a refill for my cream for my scars on my body. When we got home I saw Laura sitting on my porch waiting for me to get back with the biggest smile ever enlightning her face. I knew she did something I just didn't know what exactly she had done yet. We get out of the car and head up to the front door where she holds the door and when I step inside I see.... My favorite lunch sitting on the table along with my mom's and hers still hot. She says, "I serve you today, ok?" I didn't have any problem with her theroy I just let her stay as long as she wanted and gave her free will to leave when she choses. "This is to say that I'm thankful for you being my friend, and I'm extremely sorry for yesterday!" I've tried to tell her that everything is ok, but she still feels like it's not.My mom came and woke me up about six o'clock in the morning. For school! I'm really tired and I don't want to go anymore. I go anyways only because I've already missed a lot of school and my mom will get in trouble if I miss anymore school days. Once I get there I find that we have someone new join our school. She smiles at me and waves me over to her Laura smiles and we run over there as fast as I can. She says hi and introduces herself. "Hi, I'm Jessica, I'm new around and looking for some friends and saw you two and thought you might be able to help me out," she spoke shyly. "Zoey." "Laura." I expected her to point out my scars, but she didn't she waited til' I was ready to bring it up so she wasn't ruining what could be an awesome friendship. I started to feel a little sliver of good around me keeping my spirit warm enough to survive this harsh world around us. I began wondering how many people in the world were like my friends. I guess that is a question I'll never find the answer to.I woke up this morning and started to get ready for school as I was brushing my hair in the mirror when I found something very different about myself. I started trying to pin-point what was wrong. I got an excited rush of happiness and sceamed as loud as I could,"Mom come here quick, you need to see this!" All the sudden you hear loud thumps up the stairs and in a sceond after the thumps a head pops in suddenly. In a terrifyed screach said,"Are you hurt? Is everything ok?!" "My scars, their fading, finally, after all my life taking care of them and putting cream on them the last few weeks! It all paid off all my work and now progress has showed. Now that my scars are disappearing my friends were noticing.I got to school and up in the gym I spotted my friends and Laura and Jessica and they saved me a seat, while talking waiting for me to arrive. When I got there they asked me if I was okay. "Ya I'm awesome of course," I told them in an excited voice. "Ok then what’s different about you?!" I half-expected her to guess, but I guess not, so I told her anyways. "My scars, from the accident, their fading!" "OMG, congrats Zoey, I'm so happy for you!"Jessica took it upon herself to bring up my incident, she sat quietly for a minuite before cirously saying, "What accident?" "I got in a car accident a few years ago and went to the hospitals;I'd tell you more, but thats all I know." A single tear rolled down her cheek, then another one, and soon she was balling secrately from everyone but us. I tried not to cry at the site but couldn't. "What’s wrong?" She was extremely nervous as if something to hide, but gave in and in a quiet whisper told us that she moved here because a month ago her mom was coming to get her from school and as they left the school parking lot together a semi rammed into her side of the vehicle while she was lecturing her about her recent actions, and well she was hurt, and her mom was dead, she woke up in the hospital and asked where her mom was and they told her that she couldn't be there at the time.Once she got out of the hospital her dad told her that her mom had died in the accident. Thats why she moved here. β€œNo offence ,but when I saw you I thought we could relate with me and Laura, you looked so kind and beautiful. I wanted more than anything to be your friends!" By the end of the story all three of us were crying. We told her that we are terribly sorry and that we'd never, not, be her friends. It was time for us to go to class so we dried our eyes and head off to class. On our way to class I asked Laura to borrow her phone and told Jessica to get hers out: we stepped in the bathroom and I told her to call her dad as I called my mom. We are now having a sleepover all three of us are staying the night at my house. All the sudden something majorly shocking happened; a popular student walked up to us and said hi. She was plainly trying to be nice, she knew our names and knew some stuff we liked. When she left we were all standing by the mirrors with confused looks on our faces all asking ourselves if that really had happened. We walked to Jessica's house and grabbed her clothes and homework. She grabbed some snacks and other stuff to entertain us while parents were asleep. After we went to Jessica's, we went to Laura's and grabbed similar items. Laura's mom offered us a ride home and we accepted. On our drive back to my house, she stopped at Taco John's and we each got two soft-shell taco's and an ole with cheese. She let us
