Glittering Sands
Beneath the dreams of a mermaid lay a shy secret. She was so sensitive to waves of the sea, that her skin peeled in its ebb and her hair roared in its tide. The moon smiled at this darling of the sea, so mystical and yet so brave.
She swam to the end of the sea that night to rest amidst the dark sea lions of a secluded and lonely island. As her shiny, gel-like tail rolled on the sand it became more golden than before and tiny minerals in it sparkled in the moonbeam. She perched herself at the edge of the beach, scooped up some sand from it and smeared her face with it. It made her face ever so beautiful. She had no regrets, no worries, no sorrows. She was a mermaid.
Melodic violet waves scoured onto her. The ocean screamed nasty songs of loneliness and poetic beauty. The lights from a lighthouse nearby pierced the fog divinely. The mermaid glided on the sand without making any sound and collected some pretty stones. Then, she sat on a rather round rock and rubbed and cleaned her dainty feet with the stones, occasionally washing them with water from the sea that she picked up by making a cup with her hands. The water slipped away treacherously. She laughed at the playful water gently talking to the water, whispering in a strange, foreign language.
A short while after, the mermaid felt the touch of a hand behind her on her shoulders. She was so startled she was about to jump into the sea, but, something stopped her. She turned her chestnut brown haired head to find a young man standing right in front of her with a flute in his hands.
โIโve never seen a mermaid beforeโ said he. I was so startled that I had to blink my eyes.
โIโve never seen a human before. How is it that you found me in the midst of these fireflies and sea lions?โ
โI donโt know. All I know is that you donโt look like just a mermaid. I almost mistook you for a human at firstโ
โBlimey, Is that how you talk in human languageโฆI am still learning English from my teacher Mr Prussef from under the seaโฆโ
โYou have a teacher under the sea? What do you meanโฆis he a mermaid too?โ
The mermaid laughed โOh ..Oh no!โ she said holding her belly and wiping her tears โ How can he? Heโs of the masculine gender you see. UhโฆHe is a Mermanโ
โWhatโs a merman?โ he squinted his eyes.
โA merman โฆaโฆa mermanโฆ.โ The mermaid jumped into the sea and left him staring at her.
โTell me your nameโhe shouted โฆ
The mermaid turned back while still swimming โ Giselleโ
Chapter 2
Subdued emotions
Cool deep waters ran over Giselleโs palace in the sea. She could hear the gurgle of the water from her study. Irridescent blue waves with giant waves were pushing the glass windows and Giselle could not concentrate on her study of ancient healing artsโฆ
