Hi there. My name is Amina. My friends call me Amo and the society calls me A0K47. I shouldnโt be telling you this, but yes. I am female. Now a days, women are not allowed to be anywhere but in the camps. I was lucky enough to not be recognized as a girl. Iโve always been pretty flat-chested but lately, Iโve been using medical tape to keep covered up, just in case the gatemen see me. I live alone. My mother was all I had and she was taken to the camps. Iโll tell you more about those later though. I have to avoid everybody from the government and right now, Iโm sprinting away from pokmen through a thick forest. Pokmen are like choosers, they take out young, able-bodied men from their homes to train for the military. Iโm not kidding, they have to force them out of their homes. Yea, they are chasing me because I refused to go with them to military school. โI just want to be a photographer!โ I thought to myself, as I dodged countless trees at the speed of light. I could hear their loud footsteps getting quieter with every move they made. I hid behind a big oak tree to catch my breath. I checked behind me and, sure enough, they were gone. I sighed and went to check for a place to sleep. When I arrived in Farin, a city off the coast of what once was California, I climbed to the top of an abandoned warehouse and stared at the stars. โThis would have been a perfect shot.โ I smiled to myself. I had always loved taking pictures. My dad had taught me how when I was five. I was very close to him. Thatโs when I heard a cracking noise. I slipped the pistol out of my boot and pointed it down towards the source of the noise. I didnโt see anything, so I jumped from the roof straight down to the pavement. I looked around again. I noticed a cat sitting on the ground. I sighed, thankful it wasnโt anyone important. โWhy so jumpy?โ I heard a sly voice from behind me. I jumped and swung my weapon towards him. โWhat is wrong with you?โ I asked him. It was Ev. He was an annoyance, but he was loyal. โWhat ever do you mean?โ He smiled at me. โ You know exactly what I mean.โ โAw, Amo. You donโt trust me enough to lower your weapon?โ I huffed and put the pistol back in my boot. โOf course I do. You shouldnโt have startled me though.โ I chided, not looking at him. He pouted. โAw. But I was having fun.โ He teased. I shook my head and started walking towards the hotel section of the city. I was NOT sleeping outside again.
I walked briskly to the nearest Best Western. Like almost everything else, it was abandoned. I grabbed the keys to random room and let myself in. Ev had been following me the whole time. I flopped onto the bed and mumbled. โWhat was that?โ He asked. โI said โYou better find your own room.โโ I mumbled louder. I squirmed on the bed so that I could face him. He was pouting again. โAw, but I wanted to have some fun.โ I stared daggers into him. I turned back into the pillow and replied. โNo. Donโt even think about it.โ He smiled and went to the room right next to mine. He came right back. โ I have to keep my eye on you, remember?โ He said. I rolled my eyes. โJust because your brothers told you to, doesnโt mean you have to.โ I pulled the blankets over my head and turned away from him. Ev had 3 older brothers that gotten taken by pokmen. We were all friends and before they were taken they told Ev to protect me. He looked up to his brothers a lot, so he takes their words seriously. He sat on my bed. I felt a little bad, but I canโt let my emotions show. He pulled the covers down past my ear. โI know.โ He whispered. โBut I want to.โ He kissed my head and left. I threw the blankets off of me when I heard the door shut. โTime to get to work.โ I thought as I leapt off my bed and tip-toed to the door. I looked around for Ev or anyone else that might be in the hotel. Then, I left.
I arrived at my destination a few minutes later. I was born and raised in Farin and I decided that I wanted to grab a few of my possessions from my house. I creaked open the broken front door and took a few steps in. I let go of the breath I didnโt realize I was holding. The house was clean and it still smelled of my mother. I crept up the stairs to my room, holding in tears that threatened to spill. I slung my camera onto my neck. I then grabbed my school bag, (no school, no need for a backpack) and packed it with some clothes and my journal. I threw on my favorite sweater. It was black with little white and purple skulls on it. I also grabbed some more medical tape. My mom as a nurse so we had tons around the house. I also grabbed my brush with some hair ties. I also grabbed my iPod and restarted it so the government couldnโt track me through it. I put my headphones in, shoved the iPod in my pocket and headed back to the hotel.
