New Kids in Town

Their mother parked the small moving truck in front of a small house. It was kind of run down and creepy looking. The paint was a chipped, light baby blue.

"It looks small", said Amelia, "and gross."

Rose rolled her eyes at her twin. She always wanted the best of the best, and complained about everything. Rose and Amelia were polar opposites. While Amelia was the girly, dramamtic type, Rose more of a tom-boy, nerdy type. Amelia was into skirts and dresses, and Rose was into Jeans and sweatshirts. Amelia was open to the world about everything. Rose was quiet and kept to herself. Anyone could take one look at the two of them, and see the resemblance, but immediately dismiss it because they were just too different.

"Alright, girls. Go pick your rooms," Their mother told them.

"I call the biggest one," Amelia said immediately.

"No I do," Their mother replied.

Amelia glared at their mother before turning and going into the house. Rose followed behind. While the outside of the house wasn't that great, the inside was gorgeous. The kitchen was spotless, with yellow walls, and white tiles. The appliances were stainless steel. There was an island with a dark blue granite counter top, and two bright red stools in front of it. The living room had light magenta walls, a hard wood floor, and a big bay window on the far wall. Upstairs there were three large bedrooms, each with it's own attatched bathroom and walk in closet. The master bedroom was a little larger than the other two, but not by much. It had light blue walls, and dark blue carpeting. In the middle of the far wall was a queen size bed. There was one fairly large window in the middle of the left wall.

When Rose got to the second bedroom Amelia said, "Don't even think about it. This one is mine."

When Rose looked through the door, she could see why. The room was completely covered in differnt shades of pink, other than a few pieces of furntiture. Rose made a disgusted face, and moved on the the third room. It had light purple walls, with dark purple trim, and polished, hard wood floors. There was a smaller version of the bay window downstairs on the far wall. There was a white assembeled twin size bed frame tucked in the corner against the wall next to the door, a white night stand next to it, a white desk to the right of the window, and a white bookcase against the left wall to the left of the closet door.

A smile crept across her face, as Rose whispered, "Perfect", to herself.

It was late afternoon when the doorbell rang.

"Girls!" Their mother called. "Can one of you get the door?"

"Not it," Amelia yelled from her room.

Rose got up off her bedroom floor and made her way through the maze of boxes and bags. When she opened the front door, there was a boy standing there smiling. He was wearing a blue button down T-shirt with a tie just a slightly darker shade, faded blue jeans, and cream colored high top converse. He had tan skin, dark brown hair swept off to the side, and golden brown eyes.

"Hello. My name is Tobias Allen. I live next door. I brought you this." He held out his hand. In it was a small, silver, rectangular box.

"Um. Thanks." Rose took the box from him. "My name is Rosaline. People call me Rose, though." Rose noticed that his smile faultered and he looked away from her. But it was gone as soon as she noticed, and he was smiling at her once again.

"Pretty name. Well, if you need anything, don't be afraid to ask."

"Alright. Thank you." She had barely got the words out before her turned to leave. Rose was just about to close the door when Amelia shoved her way past her to greet the new neighbor.

"Hi."

Tobias turned around and glanced her over briefly before adverting his gaze to Rose.

"Hello. My name is Tobias Allen. I'm your new neighbor." The whole time he spoke, he never once made eye contact with Amelia. His eyes kept shifting over to Rose, and to ground. It's not like Amelia would've noticed anyway. She was to busy checking him out to notice.

"I'm Amelia. You can call me Mia, though." She stuck out her hand the way a princess would, probably hoping he'd kiss it like a prince would. But he just looked at it and looked at Rose once again.

"I'll see you tomorrow," He said waving at Rose. When he walked away, Amelia gaped at her sister. It wasn't long before her surprise turned to anger.

"You don't have a chance," Amelia hissed as she stormed past Rose.

Rose just looked at the ground as the shut the door.

Living with the Queen

Amelia was throwing her usual fit about how she has nothing to wear. When Rose walked by her room there were clothes strewn all over the place.

"Amelia! Would you shut up already?" Their mother yelled from down stairs.

Amelia groaned in response.

"I'm leaving!" Rose called before slinging her bag over her shoulder, putting her hood up, and walking out the front door.

She put her headphones in and hit shuffle on her playlist. She was almost at the end of her street when she heard someone calling her name between songs. She turned around to find Tobias running to catch up with her.

"Rosaline. Wait up."

Rose pretended she didn't hear him, and kept walking. She couldn't place it, but there was something odd about him. Rose got a bad vibe from him, and she didn't like it.

"Rosaline," Tobias said as he caught up to her. Breathing heavily at her side he said to her, "You're a fast walker, aren't you?"

Rose paused her music as a gray 1986 Thunderbird pulled up beside them. The driver rolled down their window to reveal a boy about Rose's age. From what she could she, she gathered that he had brown hair swept off to one side that came to a stop just barely above his dark brown eyes. He was tan and not particularly built, but not scrawny either. He was wearing a solid black button-up t-shirt under a gray zip-up hoodie. Rose also noticed a tatto on his right wrist, poking out from under his sleeve.

"Need a ride?" He aske Rose.

"No thanks," Tobias bitterly answered for her.

Rose came to the conclusion that Tobias didn't like him.

"I'm sorry. What's your name?" She asked him.

"My name's Daniel. And yours?"

"Rosaline."

"About that ride?"

"Sure."

"You coming?" Danial asked Tobias.

He sighed, "I guess."
