Chapter One--Jouru

Freya’s head lay on the pillow framed in her light pink hair, a green eye fluttering open. “Morning!” a friendly voice says, smiling.

“What the-” she screams, her head bumping into the shelf above her pale green sheeted bed.

“Stay calm,” a soothing voice whispered to her. “You’re alright, Freya.”

“Who-who is Freya?” she mutters, her eyes darting around the room. “Where-where am I? Who are you?” she asks, beginning to shake.

Her eyes pass briefly over the window. I dart out of the way. “What was… I guess I’m just seeing things.”

“Freya,” I say, remembering briefly the fire that shone from those bottle green eyes.

A hint of pain passes over her face as she recalls the name. “I’m Freya?” she asks, frightened.

“Come with me I’ve got something for you” I whisper softly. Freya lifts her head.

“Who…” she starts. “Okay.” The fire returns to her eyes for a moment, a spark in her gaze as she turns roughly to her doctor. “I’m leaving.”

“But, Freya.”

“Bye.” She winks at him and flounces out into the hall. As soon as she’s out she seems to crumple. “Who am I?” she whispers. A single tear streams down her face. “Someone help me,” she cries.

I close my eyes tight. I can help you, I think. Let me help you. “Come here,” I tell her. “Find me.”

“Who are you?” she asks me, eyes still shut.

“A… friend.” I hide myself behind the window ledge, holding on with one hand, dangling hundreds feet in the air. “Kai,” I nod.

“On it,” Kai responds. I feel the ears sprout from my head and my tail materializing. It flicks as I let go.

I land on all fours, Kai still floating beside me. “I saw Freya,” he says “But no sign of Kim.”

“Did she disappear? Kim can’t be…”

“I don’t know what happens when one of you guys gets amnesia. It completely buries your personality leaving a clean slate. Maybe Kim will surface when Freya comes back.”

“What if Freya doesn’t?”

“Then Kim won’t either.”

“No! I shouldn’t have let her go! I knew I shouldn’t have let her go.” I shut my eyes tight, fighting back the tears. “I knew it. Freya, please come back to me.”

Chapter Two--Freya

I woke up in a strange bed in strange clothes. I saw shadows in the windows and heard voices. They tell me I’m nineteen and other amazing things about me. But its not me. They’re talking about someone I don’t know, like if I had a sister they were gushing about.

Maybe I do have one.

“Freya,” someone says. “Its me, Jouru,” it says.

“Who are you?” I ask it. My eyes dart around the area, searching for a movement in the falling darkness. My eyes catch on a person hanging upside-down by his knees in a tree. Bobbing next to him is a little figure about as big as my hand.

“I miss Kim. She was so cool.”

“W-what?” I whisper.

The upside-down person twists to face the bobbing creature. “Kim will come back when Freya does. Give it time, Kai.”

“Easy for you say, Jouru, you have someone to guide back.”

“What?” the upside-down thing, Jouru, yells. “You think it’s easy? I lost Freya because I messed up!”

“Lost me? I don’t even know you!” I hiss at the creatures.

Jouru twists down from the tree, landing on all fours. I briefly notice cat ears and a tail, but as a few clouds appear in my vision, I decide its just a trick of the light. “Freya,” he says.

“Where’s Kim! Kim, you awake in there?” the bobbing thing, Kai, yells, flying into my face.

“Stupid” Jouru whispers and pulls Kai back by what looks like a tail. “She doesn’t know.” He flicks Kai in the head. “Since you seem to not remember me, I’ll pretend I don’t know you. I’m Jouru, this is Kai, my lilla syskon. He watches over me and annoys me. He’s modeled after a cat because they’re what I envy. Enchanted,” he says to me with a smile.

“I’m Freya. I don’t have a lilla syskon. I envy cats, too. I don’t envy their nimbleness, I envy the tom-cats outside. They’re rough and kinda lone wolves. I’m too sweet. They have such overwhelming freedom,” I say, not sure where the words are coming from, but I know they’re right.

“Nice to meet you, Freya,” Jouru says. “Nice hair.” He smiles. I see his hand stretch out as if to touch my hair. Kai floats over to his ear and whispers something. Jouru nods and pulls his hand back.

I take a look at him closely. He has dark eyes that I can’t really tell their color. His hair is coal black. His shirt is a standard button up in indigo and he’s wearing standard jeans with a few kitty cat sketches on them.

“Nice jeans,” I say, giving him a wink. He blushes and his pale skin turns a deep red.

“You have to get going,” he says. He sticks out a pale hand for me to shake and climbs off into the trees. “Bye, Freya. Say hello to- never mind.”

I puzzled over his strange goodbye. Who was I supposed to say hello to? I hold my aching head and stumble back into the hospital. I catch a glimpse of my hair. What is my natural hair color?

“I can tell you, Freya!” a voice calls.

“What?”

“I can help you!”

I look around for the source of the voice. From around the corner, Kai floats out. “Hi, Freya! Want to know who you are?”

I hesitate.

“No. She wants to figure it out on her own, Kai. If you tell her, you’ll never get me back,” a voice that doesn’t sound like my own says.

“Kim!” Kai screams, “where are you?”

“Can’t tell you, Kai,” it says. “Freya is right here.” I can hear a smile in it’s voice.

I flick Kai in the head and walk away. “Ow, that hurt you know!”

“Idiot,” I say over my shoulder

Chapter Three--Jouru

“Where were you?” I scream. Kai floats up in a daze. “I needed you!”

“Ehh? For what, Jouru?” Kai asks.

“That doesn’t matter, I guess. What matters is needed you and you weren’t there, Kai.”

“I saw Kim!” I turn towards him “Well, heard, not saw, Jouru.”

“Sucks what happened, huh?” I say, turning my eyes to the Tokyo skyline.  “Lets get back to Kagoshima. We have jobs.”

I run home to my job. Already a fight is breaking out, screams slashing through the air.

“Kai, I need some more help here!” I scream over the loud crashes and bangs of the fight.

“Aye-aye, Jouru!” Kai yells. Everything goes dark for a moment. My eyesight sharpens, my ears and tail take shape and I fall onto all fours. “You gonna finish the fight?” Kai asks.

“No, I’m way out of my league here. Kim and Freya could’ve cleaned this up in a few seconds, tops. Makes you wonder what took ‘em out. Pity we can’t call them,“ I say to him.

“Yet, Jouru.”

“Yet.”

Chapter Four--Freya

I sit on the floor of my room in a red plaid skirt with an “X” clip in my hair and a smile on my face. My shirt is a deep black with dark red sleeves with a leather jacket thrown over it. I lean over the paper on the floor. “What do I do with this information?” I wonder.

“Hi, Freya,  We were pretty good friends before our accident.

“I’m your lilla syskon, Kim! You don’t know me well enough for you to see me, but you’re to the point where you can hear me and that’s great.

“I’m modeled after a cat and I have dark green hair with gold eyes. When I transform you, in other words, hijack your body and give you magical powers, you become a veritable killing machine! Well, we don’t kill, our job is to help people realize who they want to be. I have a brother, Mike, another brother, Koki, and an older sister, Lili. We can’t wait for you to remember us! Kim, Mike, Koki, and Lili, signing off!”

I close my eyes trying to imagine these four creatures. Somewhere along my imaginings I fall into a sleep.

I’m wearing a tank-top in red with a pair of jeans. One leg is red, the other black. My hair is in a bob with a small lock of it on the right side of my head in a pigtail held with an “X” clip. I’m crying, holding my ankle. I watch a figure emerge from out of the trees around me.

“Are you okay, Eu-sama?” the little figure asks me.

“You don’t need to use such a high title for me,” I tell it. “I don’t know you, but call me Freya. I don’t need a title,” I say wiping away my tears.

“Alright, then, you need to call me Jouru with no title.” Jouru sticks out his hand. I recognize him just by his clothes. He’s wearing a black tee-shirt and black jeans. His hair is only a little bit shorter than mine and his eyes are larger than they are now. They look innocent instead of the haunted look I noticed when I saw him earlier.

“Okay, Jouru!” I say. Four figures float out from behind me. “Mike, Koki, Kim, Lili! Get back!” I yell.

“But,” Mike says, twitching an ear, “He has one, too.”

“Mike,” Koki speaks up, “It’s not as strong. Smell how weak it is?”

Kim opens her mouth “Maybe it’s not born yet?”

Lili holds up a egg “Still not born yet, it hasn’t opened it’s egg!”

The egg in Lili’s hands burts. “I’m Kai!” the lilla syskon that bursts from it yells. “Hi!”

“What?” Jouru asks. “When did these… things show up?” he asks.

“We’ve been here, baka,” Kim says to him. “You just haven’t been able to see
