The beginning of the end with the mentals

Walking up to a mental hospitalโ€™s door can give you a short rush of adrenaline, your anxiety will kick in after that and leave you wanting to go home. The doctors run you through a few tests once inside the building, just normal procedure. They ask you questions that you donโ€™t want to answer and wait as long as they need to for you to answer. They check your body for scrapes, scars and bruises and mark them down on a chart. After waiting for hours youโ€™re taken to a room, or at least I was, all that is in the room are a couple of chairs and a TV enclosed in a case.

Iโ€™m here to tell you what itโ€™s like to spend a week in a mental hospital. Because of certain reasons I canโ€™t give out the exact name of this hospital so for now weโ€™re gonna call it โ€˜Quail Walkโ€™. I guess I can start with sitting in the small room. My family was with me and it was around one in the morning, all I wanted to do was sleep but the TV was too loud and there was no remote. The room smelt just like you expected it to and there was a wet spot on the floor which I was certain was pee. I sat in one of the uncomfortable chairs waiting and watching some horrible action movie. Around half an hour later, thereโ€™s a buzz from outside the back door and it slides open.

A gurney is wheeled in and a girl is sitting on top of it, fidgeting with her sleeves. She gets off the gurney and sits down in a chair with her parents, youโ€™ll be hearing from and about this girl later on. The action movie ended and another one begun, halfway through the second movie a nurse came in and took me and my mother up to the top floor, where the adolescents were. While waiting for someone to come and take me to my room I said goodbye to my mother and sat down in a chair near one of the kidโ€™s rooms. Every roomโ€™s door had to be kept open so I could hear into the room. The kid inside didnโ€™t have a roommate so he wouldnโ€™t be disturbing anyone and from outside I could hear him snoring quite loudly and whimpering. It kind of freaked me out because he was so loud.

I was taken to my room and they dropped off my clothes. I didnโ€™t sleep at all that night. Possibly because of the kid in the middle of the hallway at about 3 in the morning screaming profanities and having a mental breakdown. I guess we can go see how the girl ended up here.

Why do hospitals always give you apple juice? I asked myself this as I sipped a disposable container of it. My mother was sitting in a chair next to me while we watched a war movie on the hospital TV and she was crying softly. Well, I guess that was kinda my fault. You see I was going to be sent to a mental hospital for a week and the doctor had just broken the news to her. I know, I know, I am a 10/10 daughter. Anyways, It was about 11 or 12 at night when I was transported to an ambulance. They strapped me to a hospital bed for โ€œsafety reasonsโ€. I could have easily ripped the straps off and choked myself with it, but you donโ€™t see my doing that. Also, I just love you taking my pulse the entire one and a half hour drive like Iโ€™m going to suddenly explode or something. Once I finally got to there I was taken to a room where an action movie was playing and a girl and her family were nearly falling asleep cause it was so cheesy. Oh yeah! Did I mention that I was still strapped down? Wow, I am so good at first impressions.

I was taken to yet another room where they strip me down to see if I have any cuts or burn marks. Then, I wait in the room again until almost 3 in the morning. I finally am taken upstairs where I hear screaming. Yay, it seems so fun already. I am roomed with another girl and I lay awake until I see the sun come up.
