Prologue
Blue flames roared to life in the century old fire place, casting the room in an eerie blue glow. As the flames died down a shadowy figure stepped from the flames and onto the cold flag stones. The shadowy figure crept forward in the room towards the only piece of furniture in the room, a crib. The figure stopped before it and placed a small bundle in it then sank to its knees, seeming to weep quietly. The shadowy figure stepped away from the crib standing with fists clenched at its sides and shoulders shaking. The blue flames reared up as if feeling the pain of the shadowy figure, and the figure was revealed to be a girl with black hair the color of midnight and eyes that burned blue like the flames. Striding into the flames the figure turned back and waved as if to say goodbye and the flames roared up once again consuming the girl who had stood there but seconds ago, leaving a crying baby behind.________________________________________________

Chapter 1
A middle aged man in his kitchen making his early morning breakfast heard the abandoned babies cries and slowly got up from the kitchen table. Leaving the kitchen he made his way slowly up the stairs toward the sound of the baby. As he reached the door at the end of the hall that leads into the old nursery he put his hand on the door knob and twisted it. It swung open with a small squeak from its rusty hinges. Walking up to the crib the man stopped before it and stared at the little baby before him.
Laying bundled i the cradle was a baby girl, she was bundled in a silk Safire blanket that matched her eyes which seemed to glow within. Her little head was covered in black wavy hair that was still growing out. He lifted her, this time noticing the two notes pinned to the blanket. He picked up the envelope with his name on it and rocked the baby while reading it.************** **************

Dear Ronald,
I do not wish to cause you more pain than I already have by leaving this baby with you, but I had no one else to go to that I could trust. She is all I have left and I couldn't risk her, or put her in harm’s way. Her name is Krista, after our mothers, mother. I do not wish to burden you and you owe me nothing, I owe you and I will never be able to repay you if you choose to care for my daughter. I am sorry for all the grief I have brought on you, and I know you will never forgive me for what happened in the past, but do not take it out on my daughter. She was brought into this world with no knowledge of her heritage, and has come to you the same way. If you wish to tell her anything should you accept her please do so when you and Krista are ready. She is my and Lornets child, if not for me than for him.

Love Your Sister,
Nallah Flame
P.S. Her full name is Kristana Aqua Flame.

************** ****************

As Ronald paused when he reached the end of the letter and looked at the baby girl in his arms, who was staring up at him with her blue eyes seeming to look deep into his soul.
"Krista," he said softly, the baby in his arms responded with a small yawn and that blue eyed stare changed turning sleepy. Standing slowly he took her to his room and created a small cradle out of blankets. Laying her there he stood and looked down at her as she fell asleep, his face filled with compassion as he looked down at her where she was fast asleep. He blew out the candle on his bedside table and went back to the kitchen to start planning on what to do. As he sat at the table he rubbed his beard in silent contemplation, wondering what to do first. After a second he grabbed a phone book and started flipping thru the pages, until he found the number he was looking for and then he picked up the home phone and started dialing. Two rings later a woman answered the phone with a nice pleasant voice that sounded on the verge of a yawn, reminding him how late it was.
"Adoption services, what can I do for you?" she asked.
He smiled and answered, "I'd like to adopt."

Chapter 2
"Uncle, I'm home!" yelled Krista happily as she came in through the front door. She had thought it strange when she saw an unfamiliar car in the drive, but dismissed it due to the fact that a new car seemed to show up on his doorstep every day. Shaking her hair out it tumbled around her shoulders, its midnight color startling in comparison to her pale complexion. As she set her school stuff down in the hallway closet she heard whispering coming from her uncle’s new office, creeping down the hallway she reached the door to his office and crouched down to listen. At first she couldn't make anything out, but the voices gradually got louder until she was able to hear them clearly.
β€œShe isn't ready," her Uncle Roland whispered.
"If she doesn't do this now you might lose her," the strangers deep voice seemed to get louder toward the end and she quickly stood and sprinted toward the living room.
Trying to settle her breathing and the pounding of her heart she plopped herself ungracefully onto the tan lounger and opened one of the many magazines stacked on the coffee table.
β€œKrista, I didn’t hear you come in” her Uncle remarked in surprise when he spotted her on the lounger and crossed the room to stand by the coffee table.
β€œI yelled” Krista said, feigning surprise when she saw the stranger. He was wearing a fancy black suit and carrying a briefcase. His hair was black and graying at the temples and his face was stern. His green eyes looked knowing as if he knew that she had been eavesdropping and that she had not heard enough to make sense of their conversation. He was frowning at her and it made his face look older. Standing Krista went up to her father.
β€œKrista, this is Mr.Seiven, Seiven, this is my niece Krista,” he looked on as we shook hands and nodded, satisfied.
