REMEMBERING SUNDAY

(A SHORT STORY)

Josh's P.O.V.

I just woke up from dreaming about her. My beautiful, sweet Melissa. I got up, and put on my shoes. It's just passed 2 am. I left my living room, went in the kitchen, and poured myself some Vodka. It's been days since I've been sober. I left the kitchen, with the drink in hand, and went to go open a window. I could feel a nice cool breeze come through.

I remember two Sunday's ago, when me and Melissa sat the table eating eggs together. It seems so familiar, I remember when she pulled on my hand with a devilish grin, and lead me upstairs to my room. It hurts to think of her, I need to find her, I need her so bad. So I decided to do something about it. I put my drink down, left my house. I went to my car, and just drove, until I reached her apartment. I knocked on her door, and Kat, her roommate answered.

"Yes?" She asked, with a tired smile.

"I don't need to be a bother, but have you seen Melissa. She's been running through my dreams, and it's driving me crazy, it seems. I'm going to ask her to marry me." I said, with a huge smile on my face.

"She actually went back home, to her parents house." She said, then she went inside, and came back out with a piece of paper. It was an address.

"Thank you, so much." I said, as I left and got in my car.

I started driving, the house was only 15 minutes away. On the way, I only thought about how much I love her. Even though she doesn't believe in love, I'm determined to call her bluff. Who could deny these butterflies? They're filling my gut. I arrived at the house, none of the lights were on. I got out of the car, and ran up to her door. I started banging on it, and screaming her name.

"Melissa! Melissa! Wake up, I need to talk to you." But there's no answer. I saw all her neighbors lights go on, and they all came out.

"Please Melissa, please. Just come out, I'm begging you. I looked at all the unfamiliar faces. I went to the women who lives on the right side of the house. I pulled out a picture of Melissa.

"I don't mean to be a bother, but have you seen this girl? She's been running through my dreams. And it's driving me crazy, it seems. I'm going to ask her to marry me." I said, with a proud smile upon my face. I looked at the women and she looked sad.

"Sweetie, she moved away," she said. I just looked in shock, and turned around faceing her house. I just stood there for a minute, I didn't know what to do, I can't live without her any longer. I then walked to my car, and got in. The funny thing is it rained all day.

I didn't think much of it then, but it's all starting to make sense. I can see now, that all of these clouds are following me in my desperate endeavor. To find my whoever, where ever she may be. I got home and went to lay on my couch, sulking in despair. I turned on my t.v., to take my mind off of what just happened, and there she was. I saw Melissa's picture on the screen. Then her parents came on. I didn't understand what was going on, then they started talking.

"Whoever Josh Barlow is, and where ever he may be, we want you to know that Melissa killed herself.' I broke down then.

Melissa's P.O.V. Before she killed herself

I was leaving a voicemail on Josh's phone. I just needed to get away from everyone, and everything. There's only one way I can do that.

"Josh, I'm not coming back. I'm about to do something so terrible, I'm terrified to speak, but you'd expect that from me. I'm mixed up, I'll be blunt. But I have to do this, I'm sorry."

I walked outside in the rain, and now it's washing him out of my hair, and out of my mind. I then put the gun to my head and pulled the trigger. I heard screams, sirens, and beeping, but I couldn't hand on any longer. I felt my heart stop, as I walked into the white light. I was invited into a heavenly place, better known as Heaven. I saw him go to my door, and scream for me. I tried to give him a sign that I was gone, I made it rain all day, but he just didn't get it. I saw the look on his face when he found out that I was dead. It was terrible but now it's over. Now I'm keeping an eye on the world. I'm so many thousands of feet off the ground. And I'm over him now, at home in the clouds, towering over his head.

Josh's P.O.V.

I guess I'll go home now, I thought as I tied the rope to my neck and jumped off the deck. I waited for the white light, then ran into it.
