“Lemme stop you right there buddy. The minute you decided to disrespect me in front of your son is the minute I became angry. The exact second you decided that you didn’t want a chubby son when I’ve got jiggly parts too is the second I got pissed. But the exact millisecond you decided to follow me to that ice cream shop is the exact millisecond I became furious. A furious fey is not something anybody wants. So if the next words that come out of your mouth to me aren’t along the lines of an apology the only thing I’ve got to say to you is… go fuck yourself.” With that and one last glare she turned on her heal, past Molly who was peeking in from the living room, and up the stairs to the room she now shared.
Molly whistled and walked in, her hands in her pockets.
“Wow, I’ve put a lot of people in their place before but she… she takes the cake.” Yeah, his wolf thought sullenly, yeah she does.
As Jake stood over his suitcase and mulled over how the hell he did it the first time he heard someone lean against his threshold. He turned quickly to see his mate standing there, her arms crossed and her hip cocked against the threshold.
“Oh hey M- Sammy.” He said, stopping himself from making the same mistake he made eight years ago. If only that worked for everything.
“Sup Jake, your packing to head back?” She asked, sounding generally interested. He nodded and sighed turning back to his suitcase.
“I can’t seem to remember how the hell I did it last time.” He said, rubbing his chin in though. He needed a shave.
“Two heads are often better than one.” She said from beside him, he practically jumped out of his skin and she laughed. His wolf preened at the sound, he missed it.
“I missed that.” He said softly, peering into her black eyes, then forcing himself to look back at the suitcase with clothes strewn out of it.
“Well, let’s try this…” She trailed off as she took the clothes out, folded them and placed them in piles all around the small suitcase.
“It’ll probably all fit now.” She said, sounding in deep though as she nibbled on her bottom lip, something done only when she was in deep thought.
“You don’t think I tried that? Still doesn’t fit.” He said, sighing deeply again.
“Hmm.” She picked up his shirt, unfolded it and held it close to her body.
“Maybe you should just leave some of your clothes here.” She whispered, closing her eyes briefly and he knew what she was doing.
“Sam-“
“No, just… no. Let me have this one little second, and then you can leave for another eight years… just let me have this.” She choked out, still keeping her eyes closed. He moved closer without his body’s permission and he put his hand at the base of her neck, enjoying how her heartbeat raced up. Her eyes popped open and amber peeked up at him through those damn lashes.
“Then I need a fair trade.” He whispered, moving his face closer to hers. Their lips briefly touched before he heard a snarl rip through the air and he was pushed away.
“Keep your hands off my mother.” His son growled at him, his fangs dropped and his eyes still baby blue from him being so young.
“JJ-“ Sam tried to say but he snarled, cutting her off and backing in to her.
“Mine, he hurt what’s mine… he’s not gonna do it again.” JJ snarled, keeping his eyes on his father.
“Look, pup-“
“No, how ‘bout you look. She’s not your little play thing, you can’t just stroll in here and play with her emotions. She’s a living person, she deserves someone stable , someone who actually gives a shit and won’t leave her as soon as she goes to sleep or turns her back. Someone who isn’t you.” He said lethally, and Jake felt the venom in those words down to the core.
“JJ! That is your father-“
“He’s no father of mine if he can’t even take care of his own mate!” He boomed, spittle flying out of his mouth.
“He’s right, I don’t deserve you. I never did. It was cruel for me to come here, cruel for me to openly display Kenna like that. I was putting salt in an open wound and I’m so sorry.” He set out to leave but near the threshold but before he left a dainty hand wrapped around his wrist.
“If you’re leaving for real this time… could you do me a favor?” Oh Goddess, what is she gonna say?
“Like what?”
“Could you mark her, please? Because I feel it every time you have sex, and every time you’re angry at her. In order for either of us to move on, you’ve gotta do it. So could you please, and I’m asking as the mother of your child, mark her already. Because… I can’t…. I just can’t.” Tears watered her eyes as she looked up at him. He couldn’t say words, didn’t trust himself to say anything. The power of the Omega was strong and he was afraid he’d say something stupid like ‘I love you’ or ‘ Please come to New York with me’. So he nodded, and she let go. She gave him back his shirt, careful not to touch his fingers and moved back, keeping her head bowed and her face curtained.
She sighed as she ran her hands through her wet hair. All the adults were going out to celebrate her coming back and the leaving of Jake and Kenna. She stood in front of the condensation filled mirror, peering into her blue eyes and sighing deeply. He hadn’t apologized yet, even though he’d had tons of freaking opportunities to! It hurt to argue with him, it was a slight twisting in her heart and it seemed the longer she stayed away from him the sharper the pain became. She scrunched up her lips and ran her hands through her hair again. All of the males were waiting on the males and she very well could’ve simply magically put on her clothing… but she was feeling spiteful today. She opened the door and slowly walked to the bed, not caring that his eyes followed every where she went. She put on her underwear, she’d decided to wear a nice black thong, then put on her jeans after. She dropped the towel and put on her bra, slowly and deliberately only showing him her back. By the time she’d put on her sweetheart neckline t-shirt she could hear how hard he was breathing.
“Ready to go?” She asked, leaving her hair wet and snapping her fingers so her feet were sheathed in a pair of wedges.
“Among other things.” He mumbled as he walked past her.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! You’re leaving us alone with Mrs. Tingle?!” Jesse exclaimed, his eyes bugging out at his parents as his siblings ran around behind him.
“She’s the only one who would willingly come over. I honestly don’t know why you kids don’t like her.” Their mom said, putting make up in her bag.
“Shall we count down the ways?” Jesse said, crossing his arms and looking up.
“She used to be in the army, she smells like moth balls, and she tries to feed us boiled chicken!”
“With the skin still on it… it’s gross.” Alissa whines, sticking out her tongue.
“She can’t be that bad.” Isaac says, walking past them and into the kitchen.
“Oh, so the newbie is allowed in the kitchen but kids who have been here since birth aren’t?” Cara says, crossing her arms and sticking her nose up in the air.
“The newbie didn’t try to burn the house down.” Thomas says, walking into the living room and picking up Libby who automatically sought his attention.
“One time, one time thing. And that was an accident.”
“It only takes one time to burn down a house.”
“Well…” Cara said, scrunching up her lips.
“Never mind her, can’t we have someone younger and more pretty smelling?” Jesse asked, pouting slightly and elbowing his twin to do the same. It would’ve worked if Aubrey hadn’t attacked Lina again. After that the bell rang and their parents high-tailed it out of there.
They all laughed as they got out of the car, recalling how fast Molly and Thomas had rushed to the car after Mrs. Tingle had rung the door.
“You try having seven demon spawn that always seem to have energy. I’d like to see you all walk out of that house slowly.” Molly grumbled as she fixed her dress. Carol snorted and shook her head, glad that her and Kevin would never dream of having little demon spawn. Sammy looked up to the neon sign that hung just above their heads and groaned.
“Really guys, a karaoke bar? You know good and gosh darn well I can’t sing at a karaoke bar.” She humphed, putting her hands on her hips.
“Don’t worry sweet thang, I got you covered.” Mark said, swatting her bottom with his hand. She’d grown accustomed to the action so she did nothing but cross her arms and roll her eyes.
“Did you just call me sweet thang?” She asked mocking a lethal tone. Jake walked by her with a smirk directed at him.
“She doesn’t really like nick names. Called her Daisy once, ‘cause she was walking so slow going to school, she damn near gouged my eyes out!” He said, smirking a confident smirk that showed off his dimple but also revealed the gnarly scar that was on his cheek.
“Not really a compliment, Sir Ding Dong, it was an insult. I don’t take kindly to insults, but I’ll gladly take a nick name any day.” She said, making sure to throw a sugary sweet smile at the ‘Luna’ Kenna as she passed by the couple.
“She just froze you out dude.” Mark said with she knew was his killer smile as he rushed up to her.
“You’re doing good Sammy pop.”
“God I hope so.”
Chapter 34He kept a hand on the small of her back, to let her know even though they were fighting she was still his. She rolled her eyes and followed the group as they went to the counter, they seemed to have visited this place before, seeing as the guy behind the counter and them had camaraderie. She crossed her arms and shivered slightly, she hadn’t really been around other people since she’d been busted out from the hunters grip, it was strange to see so many people coming to the bar.
“Val? Valerie? You there? I was askin’ if any of you wanted drinks?” Molly asked, worry creasing her brow and the mom stepped out of the shadows.
“Oh, uhm… I’ll take a screwdriver, sorry. Zonked out for a minute there.” She said apologetically and shrugged shyly. Molly didn’t seem convinced but smiled anyway, wanting to appease her friend. She turned and placed the order then together they walked to find seats among the other patrons. There weren’t a lot of seats so some couples had to ‘sacrifice’ their laps. Thomas tugged Molly down onto his lap, when there was an open space right next to him. She rolled her eyes but still got
