I felt enraged at his accusations.
‘‘I wasn’t eves dropping!’’ I spat the words out at him.
“Then what where you doing hiding underneath the stairs?’’
“I-I was just… Erm thirsty and I wanted to get some water that’s why I was passing the stairs on my way to the kitchen and I couldn’t help overhearing.’’ Edward was silent there was nothing he could say to combat my lie. I was actually proud of myself for not losing my calm I never told lies before so I wasn’t really good at this or so I thought but I never made eye contact my eyes changing colour would be a dead giveaway. Bella interrupted my train of thought with her next question.
“How much did you actually hear?’’
Nothing I replied I guessed Edi’s mechanical problems was not a heated topic right now so I lied again.
“Are you sure?’’ He asked me in an anxious tone.
‘’Well I did hear some smooching and wedding plans and… Bella began to blush my plan to change the subject was working. ‘’So if you don’t mind I’d like to go back to bed now’’. Oh ok said Bella I take you to school tomorrow. Ok goodnight Bella I said and then I turned slowly to Edward who was still clutching on to my arm as a signal to let go. He got the idea and released my arm which was bitter cold by now it was almost as if I put my hand in the freezer for a long time nevertheless I greeted him and returned to my safe warm bedroom.
Chapter 7
CHAPTER 7: FIRE AND ICE
This morning my alarm clock was busted so I woke up later than usual also to find out I was the only one left in the house. Oh well id only miss period one and as for Mr. Herbert ill just bat my eyelashes and tell him how truly sorry I am works all the time. So as I showered and got dressed I was really in no rush. By the time I came into the kitchen I was really hungry and was only focused on my mission to find food. Which is why I didn’t notice Jacob sitting there at the breakfast table until he cleared his throat? I spun around to find him there with a huge grin on his face.
‘’hungry?’’ he asked holding up a brown paper bag.
My stomach replied to his answer with a great roar he laughed feeling pleased with himself.
‘’Jake w-w what are you doing here’’
‘’well I came here to see Charlie but he was already out so I figured I’d wait for you to wake up and I’d give a tour of the town personally’’
‘’Oh but how did you get in?’’
‘’I got the spear keys my dad and the chief are really close’’.
‘’oh.’’ was all I could say at that moment. So I pulled out a chair opposite him and began to eat the jam scones I found inside the paper bag.
‘’so how is your mother.’’ he began.
‘’ Vanessa is Erm she’s okay apart from bad debt and having our house reclaimed’’ ‘’How’s your mom Jacob?’ He looked down at the table and whispered so softly it was hard to hear what he was saying.
‘’She’s dead.’’
The news hit me like a ton of bricks I was astounded I was on the verge of tears I remember Rachel she was a kind woman and she was always good to me and I didn’t even know she was dead. I didn’t know what to say and when I finally did manage to say something I disappointed myself at how it sounded
‘’I’m so sorry Jake I didn’t even know’’ He lifted his head and his expression looked as though he was in anguish. Without thinking I placed my hand over his.
‘’I sorry Jake I really am I know what it feels like to lose a parent.’’
‘’There’s no need to be sorry it happened a long time ago’’
He added a goofy smile for special affects and then looked down at my hand on his. I felt a slight blush creep up my face.
“Im sorry I got your hands all sticky’’ And as I started to move my hands away he held on to them and lifted my index finger to his lips
“No it’s ok I like jam’’ And then he slowly and tenderly began to lick my finger I gasped every nerve in my body was tingling. When he let go of my hand he looked me straight in the eyes your eyes just turned colour he said. I noticed they do that often. Yes my doctor said he couldn’t figure out what makes them change colour but he said it was not affecting my eye sight at all so… they just didn’t do anything about it. Oh well I think it’s cool that they can change I have never seen them that colour though.
“Why what colour are they?’’ I asked.
“Well there kinda green’’ he replied.
Oh crap! I shouted in my head could my eyes be telling me something?
A FEW MINUTES LATER
After we were done eating he persuaded me in to ditching school and spending the day with him. I made a bit of a fuss but I truly did want to go with him. He led me out side to his motor bike and handed me the smaller helmet of the two and started the engine. I had to admit that single moment was one of the most exiting ones I had since I came to forks. Partly because I’ve never been on a motor bike before but also because I was so close to Jake. Before he began to ride the bike he turned around and said
“Hang on tight!’’
So I did. I wrapped my arms around him and leaned my chest onto his back he’s body tensed a bit and I had a feeling of satisfaction knowing that I made as nervous as he made me.
The whole ride was pleasant his body was so scorching hot that the air around me didn’t make me cold at all. As we came to a curve I held on to him for dear life afraid I might just fall of.
He’s body tensed even more I realized I might be squeezing the life out of him so I let go of my grip a little. When we finally arrived at our destination I didn’t want to get off I wanted to hold onto him forever and a just keep driving. He parked the bike and got of first and as my feet touched the ground my knees began to buckle and I was about to fall as his arms slipped around my waist and held me up.
“Easy there tiger’’ he said as he still held on to me bringing our body’s up against each other.
“Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yes.” I replied not certain exactly what happened to me.
“I just … lost my balance.” I told him.
He chuckled
“Your feet are still wobbly from being on the bike.” He explained.
“Oh.” I replied.
“But how come your fine?” I asked him.
“Well I’ve been riding for a long time my feet have adjusted.” He said with a smirk.
“Are you ok to stand? He asked.
“I think so. I replied and he let go of my waist still keeping on hand on me just encase. I was fine my feet seemed to have recovered and he let go. When we reached the building a large Singh read FORKS MUSEUM and once we got inside I was engulfed by the beauty of the ancient artefacts all around me.
There was a replica of native village and the tribe’s woman cleaning the hide of the buffalo skin, and tribe’s men sitting around the fire with the shaman and chief. “So what do you think?’’ Jacob asked me.
“I think it’s great but why the museum?’’
“Well I thought it was important for you to know about your heritage.”
I wriggled my nose at his answer well my grandfather was a native on my father’s side and that makes me well ¼ of a native. I guess I never thought of that side of my family often because most of them are dead and the rest probably don’t even know I exist.
“Oh come on Riki don’t tell me you never knew that your father was native.’’
He’s words brought me out of my trance.
“Yes I know just never thought of it much is all.’’
My eyes scanned the information boards and as we entered deeper into the museum we saw pictures of the American soldiers and their horses. As we got deeper into the main room one particular Singh caught my attention it read, “Certain native man and women were believed to have magical abilities they were able to transform their bodies into those of everyday animals.’’ I was astounded by this discovery quickly I yanked on Jacob’s sleeve,
“What is this?’’ I asked as I pointed to the Singh. He looked confused.
“What’s what?’’ He asked.
“Read it.’’
“Oh do you believe in that kinda stuff?’’ He asked in a hushed voice so no one else could hear him.
“Do you?’’ I asked him.
He leaned in closer to me so that now his face was only an inch away from mine. I could smell his cologne and I could feel his warm breath on my face. As his lips parted to speak goose bumps ran up and down my arms even though it was warm in this room. I imagined kissing them like I did so many years ago.
“I don’t know.’’ He said.
“But if it was true what would you think about it?’’
“To be honest I think it would be really awesome.’’ I replied.
He took a few steps back and grind at me.
“What?’’ I asked.
“Nothing’ He said.

When we left the museum Jake took me down to the city centre. It was buzzing with noise and chatter and various smells. As we walked down the pavement a homeless guy was sitting in a squatted position up against an old store. He held a Singh in his hand that said no food no money please help! I reached into my pocket and retrieved a couple of penny’s to throw in his hat as I bent over he grabbed my arm and began shouting franticly.
“God bless your soul! For the ones you love will be in grave danger! So will you! Run they’re coming run!’’
At that moment Jake yanked at the hands of the man of me and picked up the guy by his collar and looked him square in the face. As he let go the man fell to the ground and then he got up and took off. I then realized that everyone was staring at use from the shops store owners poked their heads out of their windows to see what was going on. After a couple of seconds every one turned around and went on with their business they probably thought it was a no good bum giving us trouble. When Jake turned around his attention went to my wrist which I was rubbing because it throbbed with pain.
“Are you okay?’’ He asked as if my life depended on it.
“Yeah I’m fine Jake’’
“Let me see.’’ He took my arm and examined it carefully.
“Does
