Poison in the Food - Dangerous Additives

Here are the some dangerous additives that you should remove from your diet if possible:

1. Sugar, glucose, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), sucrose (table sugar), dextrose (corn sugar),

2. Artificial Sweeteners – Aspartame, Sucralose, Saccharin, Sorbitol.

3. MSG (monosodium glutamate).

4. Trans Fats

Let’s go over some of these additives in a bit more detail.

Trans Fats

Trans-fat is considered by many doctors to be the worst type of fat you can eat. Trans-fatty acids β€” both raises bad cholesterol and lowers your good cholesterol.

Some meat and dairy products contain small amounts of naturally occurring trans-fat. But most trans-fat is formed through an industrial process that adds hydrogen to vegetable oil, which causes the oil to become solid at room temperature. This partially hydrogenated oil is less likely to spoil, so foods made with it have a longer shelf life.

The manufactured form of Trans-fat, known as partially hydrogenated oil, is found in a variety of food products, including:

Baked goods. Most cakes, cookies, pie crusts and crackers contain shortening, which is usually made from partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. Ready-made frosting is another source of Trans-fat.

Snacks. Potato, corn and tortilla chips often contain trans-fat. And while popcorn can be a healthy snack, many types of packaged or microwave popcorn use trans-fat to help cook or flavour the popcorn.

Fried food. Foods that require deep frying β€” French fries, doughnuts and fried chicken β€” can contain trans-fat from the oil used in the cooking process.

Refrigerator dough. Products such as canned biscuits and cinnamon rolls often contain trans-fat, as do frozen pizza crusts.

Creamer and margarine. Non-dairy coffee creamer and stick margarines also may contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oils.

Many restaurant chains have stopped frying food in partially hydrogenated oils and so have significantly reduced trans-fat levels in French fries and other foods. These include McDonald's and Burger King.

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)

A widespread and silent killer that's worse for your health than alcohol, nicotine and many drugs and it is likely you have some in your kitchen cabinets right now.

MSG is approximately 78 percent free glutamic acid, 21 percent sodium.

It is monosodium glutamate (MSG) a flavour enhancer that's known widely as an addition to Chinese food, but that's actually added to thousands of the foods you and your family regularly eat such as Doritos, Potato chips (crisps), frozen dinners, cold cuts, gravies, salty flavored snacks, you name it; any of these items can contain MSG. Because MSG is added to so many packaged and processed foods, it is nearly impossible to list them all. When you eat MSG, you think the food you're eating has more protein and tastes better. It does this by tricking your tongue, using a little-known element, umami. It is because of umami that foods with MSG taste generally better to a lot of people than foods without it.

One of the best overviews of the very real dangers of MSG comes from Dr. Russell Blaylock, a board-certified neurosurgeon and author of "Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills." In it he explains that MSG is an excitotoxin, which means it overexcites your cells to the point of damage or death, causing brain damage to varying degrees and potentially even triggering or worsening learning disabilities, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Lou Gehrig's disease and more.

Part of the problem also is that free glutamic acid is the same neurotransmitter that your brain, nervous system, eyes, pancreas and other organs use to initiate certain processes in your body.

Many other adverse effects have also been linked to regular consumption of MSG, including:

Obesity, Eye damage, Headaches, Fatigue and disorientation and Depression

According to the FDA, MSG Symptom Complex can involve symptoms such as: Numbness, Burning sensation, Tingling, Facial pressure or tightness, Chest pain or difficulty breathing, Headache, Nausea, Rapid heartbeat, Drowsiness and Weakness.

Aspartame

Aspartame is the ingredient found in NutraSweet, It is also found in Equal, Spoonful, Equal Measure, AminoSweet, Benevia, NutraTaste, Canderel, and many popular "diet" sodas. This chemical is currently on the ingredient list of nearly 6,000 products worldwide. But since it was approved for use as a food additive in 1981, it has been dogged by complaints about its safety.

Aspartame was invented as an Ulcer drug by scientists working for a pharmaceutical corporation called G.D. Searle and Company. Monsanto (company behind genetically modified food) then bought out G.D Searle in the 1980s. The FDA refused to approve Aspartame and that’s when Ronald Reagan fired the FDA commissioner and put in his place a friend of Donald Rumsfeld (head of G.D Searle and the same Donald Rumsfeld who led the United States into the multi trillion dollar wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as Secretary of Defence during the Bush presidency) who would then approve Aspartame for use in foods.

In fact, early safety studies conducted on the chemical compound aspartame found it causes grand mal seizures and deaths in monkeys. That researched was snuffed and blacklisted by the new FDA commissioner put in place almost directly by G.D. Searle.

High intensity sweeteners are synthetic compounds manufactured in a laboratory to make something taste sweet. Aspartame itself is over 200 times sweeter than sucrose. It was originally sold to America under the brand name NutraSweet. The problem? Aspartame is converted by the body into formaldehyde, a known cancer-causing chemical composed of aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and Methanol, all of which are toxic in their own right. Formaldehyde is one of the ingredients in embalming fluid, a known carcinogen and deadly neurotoxin. By itself, methanol embalms living tissues and damages DNA, and can cause lymphoma, leukaemia, and other forms of cancer.

Dr. Adrian Gross, the FDA's toxicologist who examined the aspartame research initially presented to the FDA by G.D. Searle, was "absolutely shocked" at the evidence according to Dr. Russell Blaylock, a retired neurosurgeon, showing "an enormous increase in tumours, particularly brain tumours."

"And of course that's exactly what we're seeing now is this tremendous increase in brain tumours in this country. Which is completely unexplained by the neurological profession," continues Dr. Blaylock.

This is how aspartame causes brain tumours. Adding to the problem, according to Dr. Blaylock:

"Excitotoxins have been found to dramatically promote cancer growth and metastasis. In fact, one aspartame researcher noticed that, when cancer cells were exposed to aspartame, they became more mobile, and you see the same effect with MSG. It also causes a cancer cell to become more mobile, and that enhances metastasis, or spread. These MSG-exposed cancer cells developed all of these pseudopodians and started moving through tissues."

Sorbitol

The sweetener sorbitol can cause extreme weight loss and other problems, according to a new report from the University of Berlin. According to the report one patient, a 21-year-old woman, had unexplained diarrhoea and abdominal pain for eight months. She reported an unintended weight loss of 24 pounds, weighing in at about 90 pounds. After she was asked about diet, she said she chewed sugar-free gum with sorbitol daily, taking in about 18 to 20 grams a day. One stick typically has 1.25 grams. Once she eliminated sorbitol from her diet, the gastrointestinal problems stopped and she gained back more than 15 pounds. "Sorbitol is not well absorbed," the report says. As a result, excess water enters the gastrointestinal tract and diarrhoea can occur. Sorbitol is found in toothpastes as well as chewing gum and sweets.

Sorbitol is known to aggravate IBS, irritable bowel syndrome, and cause gastrointestinal issues and conditions accompanied by severe abdominal pain, even from small amounts.

For those times when you just want a taste of something sweet, there is a healthier alternative called Stevia that you can use in moderation. Stevia is a natural plant and, unlike aspartame and other artificial sweeteners that have been cited for dangerous toxicities, it is a safe, natural alternative that's has been around for over 1500 years and is ideal if you're watching your weight, or if you're maintaining your health by avoiding sugar. It is hundreds of times sweeter than sugar and truly has virtually no calories.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

A new study by USC and University of Oxford researchers indicated that large amounts of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) found in national food supplies across the world may be one explanation for the rising global epidemic of Type 2 diabetes and resulting higher health care costs. HFC is known as isoglucose or glucose-fructose syrup in the European Union.

β€œHFCS appears to pose a serious public health problem on a global scale,” said principal study author Michael Goran, professor of preventive medicine, director of the Childhood Obesity Research Center and co-director of the Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute at the Keck School of Medicine at USC. β€œThe study adds to a growing body of scientific literature that indicates HFCS consumption may result in negative health consequences distinct from and more deleterious than natural
