She sits there, wondering what her life would be like if, she was like everyone else, if she had a family like everyone else, if these thoughts that run through her head never existed. She imagines, having a happy family, days full of laughter and light, and seeing her mother and father in love. She starts to smile, until her mother screams from the bottom of the stairs, βLizbeth get you ass downstairs now!β Her motherβs yelling always put an abrupt end to Lizbethβs daydreaming. She wished she could just have one day full of daydreaming, without her mother screaming for her every five minutes.
βWhat do you need me to do?β Lizbeth asks her mother.
βI need you to fold the clothes and put them away, or you canβt go to the dance tonight.β says her mother.
βYou promised me that I could go!β
βWell things change, I need your help around here, and all you do is sit up in your room and listen to music!β her mother screams.
βI do more around the house than you ever have!β Lizbeth screams at her mother.
βYou donβt do jack shit! Now quit with the attitude before I slap you across the face!β
βDo it I dare you! See how fast I call dad and get the hell out of here!β screams Lizbeth.
βYour father is an alcoholic who doesnβt give a shit about you! Why do you think I left him when you were a baby! I left him to protect you!β cried her mother.
βYou left him because you wanted to! Not to protect me! Youβve never protected me! All you have done is lie to me!β Lizbeth cries.
βI have not! Now get this shit done or you canβt go to the dance!β
βYes maβam.β
βThank you!β her mother says in a cocky tone of voice.
