“May I come in Mr. Gilman?” Kane knocked the door.
“Yes please. What the status of Vaccine agreement? Did Dr. Jayden come today? And what happened to your nose?” Gilman questioned.
“Ahh I lose my balance on stairs sir, its nothing. And unfortunately, at the last trial the vaccine could not survived the test. They have failed to invent cure. Dr. Jayden could not achieve the breakthrough.
“Ohh lord! Jayden were confident about 99.9% of the success. In every medical emergency he always worked off the radar. But he didn’t want to work for my company, after I proffered him during a research conducted by us on an asteroid metal in 2004. But the mystical disappearance of the metal left the research wound up and from then he too only kept contact with me via phone. Last we met he wanted a blood sample of mine. He called me later, said he has completed successful human trials. I called him a numerous time, but he didn’t pick up. I know he has alienated himself from everyone after his wife’s remorseful death. Any positive news you got from the other pharmaceuticals? Any positive news from their side?”
“Not yet sir. Give some rest to yourself Sir; You’ve been working for straight 18 hours. Its almost 8 and I think you should go home now. Navan is concerned about you.”
“I cant sleep peacefully, thinking about this, Mr. Kane. Like the bubonic plague, like influenzas and flus, this 2020 will also be marked as a black swan event in the history of disasters. When shall we achieve a way to get rid of this? Thousands of people are dying every day, and maybe, a day will come when a total city will be population less. Is this the price we have to pay for our faults?”
“I concur to your decision. We don’t have to experience this mass death every single day if the people actually comply to strict maintenance of hygienics. We our our worst enemies.”
“Not only that, how long we have to stay quarantined at home? At our own territories? From job losses to collapsing of shares its an irreparable year in our life. Yes have to go home now Mr. Kane, Van is waiting for me.See you tomorrow, Good night!”
“Good night, Mr. Gilman.”
Driving the car, Mr Gilman was inundated about the world’s future. Putting his hands on steers he tried to call Dr.Jayden for some time.He was about to take a left turn, his car skids and crashed against a lamppost. He became senseless.
The moment he gained his consciousness, he found himself tied with a tree. He could not identify the place as the glass pieces pierced his eye. The entire world was bloody red in front of him. He understood someone is standing in front of him, observing. He felt his hands are inactive, the knot was strongly tied to his body. He tried to speak with all effort he had left.
“Wh…Wh…Where aaam I?”
“Mr.Gilman, any last words?” The face donned a green mask. “The reservoir of entrepreneurship has fallen finally?”
Gilman found the voice to be strangely familiar. This voice he knows long before ,since 2004. It was the voice of compassion, but really is it now? What is he doing over here? trying to take revenge but on what? What has he done? Severely injured with multiple contortions, he tried to speak “I…I know y,,,your voice…”
“Yes, this voice vanquishes, Mr Gilman. It was not a good attempt to stomp on my tail.” The voice hisses.
“What are you talking about…do i…know…who are…” Gilman could not finish his sentence; he slits his throat multiple times. The stone chips were washed with fiery blood. He puts his hands on the air and yelled,
“Let the roads get drenched with toxic blood!
Let the voice of evil to be heard!
Let there be no clemency for thy common,
For the Demon, the power is yet to summon!”
The masked man’s demented glee echoed the night streets. No one was there to save Mr. Gilman, for the entire city has slumbered, locked in their cages. Just some street dogs barked and fled away.
Just some months later…
It is nothing but a curse. For inferior and powerless the world does not stand. What his Ma got in return after diagnosing countless patients, staying in nursing centres 247, encumbering the acidic, infectious atmosphere? Deterioration of health and dying infected by the very virus only. The almighty’s actions are this volatile, so Xenophobic that it took his Ma away from him? What was his Baba’s fault? What important works he remembered that he left him and dada out of nowhere? Baba is blaming himself for their deaths, His beloved. As what he heard from Ma, she accepted Dada as his own son and with care and compassion she raised both of them. The consequence is this? Why should we stand beside people in need anymore if we ourselves, suffer evils death?
The thoughts nibbling him continuously whilst climbing up Mount Haku. He left his opulent teen lifestyle; There is nothing called home anymore to him. What was the actual reason Baba left for? To live an exemplary life abstaining from all cohesiveness? Ma’s death changed him from inside; he has experienced the revelling life but without bonding, without affection of close ones, its not a happy life anymore. He came to seek tranquillity here, no one knows about that, not Baba not even Dada. Being a genius in college and retrieving adulations and certificates is what he had enough. An unplug from social life, a detachment from privileges.
“What’s my destiny? Is it far away, is it in front of my eyes and I’m too reluctant to observe it? OH, benefactor, the leal should not be condemned!” his feet were collapsing, his body is freezing and becoming intolerable. His throat is drying, but he must seek his ultimate destination. The unquenchable thirst of his, inspired from the lore and
