to see those,” I grinned.

“Would you like me to walk you through options now, my king?”

“Later,” I said, thinking of Violet. I could geek out over power armor suits after she was safe.

The munitions officer on duty behind the counter was a smoking hot “Monster” babe named Sergeant Polaris. Like a number of the colorful “Monsters” I’d seen since my arrival, Polaris had dark green hair, darker green lips, and jade green skin, putting her in the same neighborhood as the sexy Orion babe in Star Trek TOS’s pilot episode “The Cage.” The job of Polaris and her two also-green Monster assistants — both of them privates by rank — was to officially issue everything in the armory and log it into a floating holographic window.

The Shock Knights clipped rugged ammo belts around their waists. These held spare PEPs for their weapons and their armor.

I said to Theia, “What’s with the PEPs for armor? Don’t your rings power your armor? Mine do.”

“Yes, my king. Our rings do power our armor, but only for a day or less of light use. Then we have to either charge them at a dedicated charging station here at base, or if we’re in the field, using a PEP.”

“That’s handy. How long of a charge is an armor PEP good for?”

“It varies depending on use, my king. Flying time and onboard weapon use drains them quickly. Under heavy combat, two or three hours could deplete an entire ring charge or PEP charge.”

“You sure now your stuff,” I smiled.

“Thank you, my king,” Theia smiled minutely.

I was learning that Theia was even more reserved than Oia. When I had met Oia back on Earth, I had thought she was unflappably professional at all times, something I later learned wasn’t true in the private confines of Oia’s cabin on the Artemis. But Captain Theia here was even more reserved. She was all business, all the time. If she had any interest in me beyond protecting me, I wasn’t picking up on it. That was fine by me. I was already juggling at least three women: Oia, Venus, and Violet. Five if you counted Cygna and Sirius. Considering I was already dropping the ball when it came to Violet, and had already dropped four other balls when it came to preventing Oia, Venus, Cygna, and Sirius from getting beaten only hours earlier, juggling a sixth woman sounded like a bad idea.

From behind the munitions counter, Sergeant Polaris said with a sly smile, “What’s tonight’s mission, my king?”

“Recon,” I lied because I knew that Violet and her tribe of jungle babes were considered enemies by the Royal Guard. Meaning, I certainly wasn’t giving the truth to Polaris or the privates working with her. Heck, I wasn’t even sure what if anything I would tell Captain Theia and her Shock Knights. The fewer people who knew about Violet, the better.

“Scouting for pirates?” Polaris suggested.

“Yup,” I lied.

“This late? It’s the middle of the night. Shouldn’t you be in bed, my king?” Polaris said suggestively.

“Can’t sleep,” I chuckled.

“I wasn’t thinking of sleeping,” Polaris purred.

Did I say six?

Because babe number seven here was currently knocking at my bedroom door.

When I didn’t respond, Polaris leaned her elbows on the countertop, giving me a clear view down her uniform’s deep V-cut cleavage. She also stuck her ass in the air behind her and shifted her hips from side to side. Like every woman at the outpost, Polaris was young, incredibly attractive, and had a perfect body. Her green “Monster” coloration only made her more alluring because every Trekkie I knew harbored an Orion babe fantasy, me especially.

Under any other circumstances, I would’ve fallen under Polaris’ spell and leaned against the counter to flirt back. The way she was putting out vibes, we probably would’ve been kissing across the counter in less than five minutes. It wouldn’t stop there. The way she was shaking her ass behind her made it clear she wanted me back there shaking it for her.

One thing I was learning about hot women: unless space pirates were busy shooting bolt blasters in your face, or dropping bombs on your head, it was impossible not to be sidetracked by a gorgeous Zalaxian woman like Polaris who clearly wanted to get down and dirty.

Thankfully, the moment was broken by a resounding rattle as the battle-ready Shock Knights expertly slapped PEPs into their weapons and locked them snapping and clacking into place.

Let me tell you, watching 51 babes — 50 Shock Knights plus Captain Theia — arming up with casual confidence was stunning to witness. Knowing they were your personal bodyguard was even more stunning. Not that watching Polaris shaking her tight ass was any less stunning. But I had Violet to worry about and Polaris would be safe here in a basement bunker full of thousands of guns.

“Are we ready?” I asked.

Captain Theia nodded, “If you’ll lead the way, my king, we’ll follow.”

—: Chapter 9 :—

The dim lavender dawn was beginning to light the night sky when I walked outside with my Shock Knights. It wasn’t much, merely a pinking on the horizon, but it signaled the deadly edge of night was slowly retreating from the advance of daylight.

I and my Shock Knights took to the air, our power armor thrusters lighting up with a plasma crackle and lifting us over the tall perimeter walls. All of us had our helmets on and visors down. The Shock Knights looked menacing and absolutely badass in their golden armor. I presumed I looked pretty damn good in my purple, gold, and silver-trimmed royal power armor.

We flew over the 200 meter-wide clearing of empty red dirt that surrounded the outpost’s perimeter walls. Correction. The clearing had been empty last night when I’d arrived, but now the red dirt was dusted with a haze of blue-green jungle growth shooting up, hundreds of thousands of small sprouts taking root. I wondered whose job it was to keep the dirt perimeter clear, because someone obviously did. I’d probably find out
