on the outpostโ€™s landing deck. The Shock Knight uniform consisted of: gloves of gold that covered their arms from fingertips to biceps, golden thigh-high boots, a golden headband, and nothing else.

Not. One. Thing.

The silent sex appeal of this particular Shock Knight was a punch in the gut.

It was not possible for a woman to be more beautiful.

I was speechless.

She went down on one knee and bowed her head, saying, โ€œI am Captain Theia, your prime protector and commander of your Shock Knights. My life is yours to wield, my king. I will lay it down in defense of yours. May my body be your shield, and my sword arm your strength.โ€ She looked up and met my eyes. โ€œI was born to serve you and I will die doing the same. For ever and always, I am yours to command, my king.โ€ She was dead serious and 100% sincere.

Chills went through my body.

How did you respond to that?

โ€œThank you,โ€ I whispered in absolute awe.

Captain Theia stood tall, shining with resplendent beauty.

As formal welcomes went, it didnโ€™t get any better than this.

Due to her revealing uniform, it was impossible for me to not get aroused.

More Shock Knights filed into the room behind Captain Theia and they filled every available square centimeter of floor space. Each woman wore an identically revealing gold uniform and was equally beautiful. Like Captain Theia, golden headbands kept their big manes of stripper hair out of their faces, framing their fine features, highlighting their mesmerizing eyes, luscious lips, and fine jaw lines. Their smokey nightclub makeup only enhanced their already superhuman beauty.

I felt like Iโ€™d died and gone to Strip Joint Heaven.

One thing stood out.

They were all Normals.

Not a single Monster babe among them.

In unison, they got down on one knee and recited a similar oath to Captain Theiaโ€™s, except they spoke of โ€œweโ€ instead of โ€œIโ€ and ended by saying, โ€œWe are your Shock Knights, your royal protectors.โ€

After the murderous night Iโ€™d had, it was uplifting and encouraging to say the least. As a lifelong nerd whoโ€™d never had much luck with women, having a roomful of hot, basically nude babes swear their loyalty to you while promising to lay down their lives for yours was justโ€ฆ I couldnโ€™t even put it into words.

โ€œThank you, ladies,โ€ I nodded. โ€œI mean it.โ€

โ€œWe are here if you need us,โ€ Captain Theia said.

โ€œThank you.โ€

At that point, the Shock Knights stood guard and ignored me.

Not wanting to be rude and stare at their naked beauty, I glanced over at my sleeping Bombshells.

They looked like death, their faces encased in translucent plastic reconstruction masks of some kind. Vaguely visible through the masks โ€” which had a vacant and nondescript mannequin expression โ€” were their bloody wounds and bruises from their recent beatings. Flickering laser light moved constantly under the masks, making facial repairs.

Major Akeso, the head doctor here, had informed me earlier that it could take up to two weeks for Oia and Venus to fully heal. Apparently, massive facial reconstruction was something not even advanced Zalaxian medical tech could rush. Virgin tissue had to be grown to prevent scarring, hence the healing masks.

Worse, Major Akeso had informed me Oia and Venus were both missing teeth. Replacements were being grown in vials elsewhere in a medical lab, and would be implanted once tooth growth was complete. It was a slow process, but if you asked me, growing replacement adult teeth in less than two weeks that matched your DNA was a welcome miracle.

Regarding Cygna, nothing was being done for her injuries that I had heard, not even for her missing teeth โ€” sheโ€™d lost a few too โ€” which was exactly what Venus had quietly insisted I tell Major Akeso and her staff. No one was to touch Cygna beyond changing her linens and bedpan, and bringing her food and water, no questions asked. I was still leery about Venusโ€™ request, but Cygna wasnโ€™t dead, and was breathing evenly, so Venus clearly knew something about Cygna I didnโ€™t.

As for Sirius, she was in critical condition. Her problem wasnโ€™t cosmetic damage like the others. It was extensive internal organ rupture and traumatic bone fractures. She had almost died last night after getting stomped by the former King Sekton. Major Akeso โ€” who had performed life-saving surgery on Sirius only hours ago โ€” was now aware that Sirius was a shifter who could turn into a black panther. From what I could tell, Siriusโ€™ alien biology wasnโ€™t a medical challenge, but it was a social challenge. None of the medical staff ever spoke openly about Sirius being a shifter. During surgery and after, they had pretended to ignore it while making sure her vitals were stable and administering whatever fluids and therapeutics she needed for recovery.

There was nothing more I could do for them except let them rest, so I sat back in my hexagonal chair and yawned hard.

Now that my Bombshells were safe and receiving expert medical care, and I had an entire squad of Shock Knights standing guard over me, my body reminded me that now might be a good time to sleep for a week straight. Whether or not I would get more than a few minutes rest here and there was an open question. There was a good chance my looming PTSD would turn the coming weeks into a nonstop nightmare of me fighting phantom space pirates in my sleep, nightmare pirates that couldnโ€™t be killed. I wasnโ€™t looking forward to that, let me tell you. Not at al. But that was nothing compared to the reality of what would happen. If you were to tell me now that I would soon be fighting an entire army of real space pirates, I would laugh maniacally in your face before bashing mine into the nearest concrete wall.

Frowning at that miserable thought, I smiled hopefully at Captain Theia.

I said, โ€œI donโ€™t mean to be rude, but I should try and sleep.โ€

โ€œRest easy, my king,โ€ Captain Theia said softly. โ€œWe will watch
