in the light what you ignite in the dark.”

Adonis pressed his lips to hers, swallowing her choked cry.

He was tired of waiting, of forcing himself to move at her pace when she only wanted to keep the distance between them when she was awake.

He didn’t need to tell her how wet she always got for him.

Every time she moved his hand between her legs, he redirected it her to his hair instead to stop from touching her. He would never take her in her sleep, no matter how tempting she was. Now was different. She knew he was there, looked him in the face.

He could let himself go, get his fill of her cool taste.

Fabiana was like warm cocoa on a winter’s night, or the scent of evergreens in the cold wilderness. He ate at her mouth, a man starved for what only she could give. Her rounded breasts were crushed between them, the heavy masses tipped with hardened nipples. Adonis would taste them soon enough, but for now, he needed to make her wild.

He threaded his fingers through her hair, pulling on the strands to force her head back farther and give him more room to explore. Her lips clung to his as he slid his against her before plunging his tongue inside.

He’d been soft with her, but he was an animal, and she belonged to him. He wanted to mark Fabiana, to rub his scent over every part of her body until they blended. His teeth sank into the plump flesh of her lower lip before he dipped his tongue back in and slid it against hers.

More.

He always needed more of her.

It was never enough to only kiss her.

He lowered her to the Temple floor and crawled over her. Fabiana’s fingers tightened in his hair, the pinpricks of pain her demand to stay where he was. He had no problem obliging. Holding his weight on his forearms, he settled between her legs and rolled his hips as he kissed her deeper.

Adonis swallowed her moan and moved in a lazy dance to match his kiss.

Touch. Tease. Possess.

“Adonis,” Fabiana whimpered against his lips, but he didn’t change. Didn’t speed up.

She would be driven to the same maddening pitch he was.

He rested his weight to one side so he had a free hand and blatantly moved it down her body—from her collarbone, down across her stomach, and back up. It wasn’t a soft caress but a hard one, pressing against her body as he continued to sip from her lips and rub his stiff cock between her legs.

Her back arched, and he used that opportunity to push his hand behind her.

It only was a matter of a simple shift to rake his nail down her gown. He was careful not to puncture her suit, but he wouldn’t have anything else between them. Not after tonight.

And he’d have her reveal the secret to that soon enough.

“Now or never, Fabiana.”

Chapter Nine

There was no way she would have been prepared for Adonis.

Not like this.

He was everywhere—from his scent to his touch, he didn’t let her escape. The moment Fabiana thought her mind could pull her out, he dragged her back to him, slamming the door shut on the past and leaving her withering beneath him. Even now, as his demand hung in the air between them, she couldn’t work up a single reason she shouldn’t give herself over to him.

Fabiana might have questions tomorrow, but tonight, she only wanted to feel and take. Adonis gave her more than she thought possible without even trying, and she didn’t know if she could go back to her old existence without exploring how being with him could really be.

His cock was long and thick against her core, teasing with cloth-covered thrusts that hit her clit with deadly precision. Adonis’s mouth claimed her. His hands molded her into a pile of quaking need. Why would she ever say no?

A niggling voice pushed into her mind.

A single cry to run, to hide.

Adonis lifted himself off of her, and her soul broke, shattered into so many pieces. If he left her now, something irrevocable would be left between them—something in the form of a wall. Fabiana didn’t think she’d ever have the strength to climb it by herself, but he’d force her to.

She dug her nails into the back of his head, yanking him back against her so she could wrap her arms around his neck.

“Don’t.”

“Don’t what, pequeña? Tell me.”

“Don’t leave me like this.”

He peered into her eyes, gold meeting blue. “There won’t be any going back from this. You will be mine.”

She knew it deep in her bones. He wasn’t making this promise lightly. She would be a different woman after tonight. His woman. His mate.

“I know.” She nodded, unable to say anything else.

Adonis went from poised to action in the blink of an eye, ripping the tattered remains of her gown from her body and tossing it over her shoulder before he nuzzled her neck.

“Where does it open?”

Of course, he’d discovered the suit while he touched her.

“Tell me, or I will remove it for you, Fabiana.”

“Th-there’s a zipper in the back. It disappears into my hairline. You can’t see it, only feel it.”

Strong fingers searched for it and tugged. Fabiana felt the odd sense of coming home as he unzipped it. She was … herself. Even her wolf didn’t like blocking away its scent. It changed its view of the world, and it had taken some time for Fabiana to recognize things without looking at them because her wolf registered the difference between the scent and the object itself.

Her wolf slammed inside her.

Mine.

Yes. Their scents collided and blended, a heightened sense of awareness sending shockwaves along Fabiana’s nerve endings. Adonis peeled
