I smirk. “Door was open.”
“No way.” He takes one tentative step inside and waits a moment. I chuckle watching him. It’s like he expects a scythe to come swinging down. He takes another step, followed by another until he’s standing next to me in the middle of the room. “Huh. This is it?”
“Right. I was expecting a bit-“
“More,” Seth finishes. He strides towards the bed and crouches down low, looking under it as if he’s checking for the boogeyman.
I roll my eyes. “What are you doing?”
Seth drags out a suitcase. “I’m looking to see if she has any guns or knives.” He unzips the familiar giant suitcase she originally bashed Hunter with and throws open the lid. Inside there are several oil pastels, papers, nice coloring pencils, and a variety of other supplies any typical art junkie would have. Seth rifles through the items. He picks up the oil pastels and reads the contents before tossing them back in.
I shake my head. “She’s going to know if you keep doing that.” I watch Seth rise. He frowns while looking around the room. “Besides, those aren’t allowed on campus.”
Seth stalks towards the wardrobe, struggling to open it since it’s stuffed full of clothes. “Yeah, but you never know. She is crazy.” He pulls out several garments and throws them over his shoulder. One of them hits me in the face and I pull it away.
“Yeah, she’s crazy,” I say while eyeing a panda hoodie up and down. Why does she have this weird thing? “But she doesn’t come off THAT crazy.” I throw the garment on the bed.
Seth glances over his shoulder, narrowing his eyes at me. “You never know. Maybe she has a stake.”
I burst out laughing. “Like a vampire hunter?” I clutch my stomach. My abs pinch in pain as I continue laughing.
“Yeah, maybe she’s that kind of crazy. She did try to slice my neck open with her key.”
My gaze is drawn to the books on the corner of her desk. I pick one up and flip through the pages. I’m soon fascinated and drawn in by the crisp lines and the intricate detail. It’s a city. New York? And the use of color is extraordinary. It looks so realistic, as if I’m looking at a photograph and not a work of art. She may be crazy, by the psycho bitch definitely has talent.
“What the hell are you doing?”
I jump and Seth spins around. I nearly rip the paper with my death grip. I expect to see psycho roommate there, about to throw knives. Instead, it’s Hunter, laughing and pointing while he stands in the doorway. “You should see your faces,” he laughs and clutches his stomach. “Oh my god. That was amazing.”
“Get in here you asshole,” I drag his ass in and he sits down on the bed, looking under it.
“What the hell are you searching for?” Asks Seth.
“Guns,” Hunter winces, “or maybe knives. Who knows with this chick?”
Seth nods his approval while I shake my head and turn my attention back to her sketchbook. There are more drawings of squirrels, people sitting on the subway, Central Park; each one with the same amount of detail. I snap the book close and go to her bed, grabbing a book on photography. Definitely an art student. I wonder what she takes pictures of…
“What the fuck is this?” I look up, seeing Hunter has moved and is now sitting in front of her wardrobe. He grimaces while holding up a pair of Hello Kitty underwear. “This isn’t sexy at all!” He throws it over his shoulder. He pulls out more underwear from her drawer, each one with some cutesy pattern. “I don’t see any thongs here.”
Seth grabs the camera off her makeshift desk and turns it around before pulling at his waistband and taking a picture of what I can only suppose is his dick. I shake my head, knowing we are in such deep shit when she returns, but at the same time, really enjoying the imagery of her storming in here and screaming.
“Lukie, look!”
“Huh?” I turn to Hunter, who is currently holding up a pink bra over his shirt. The cup size is small and the band is about half Hunter’s width.
“Do you think I can wear this?” He waggles his eyebrows.
I roll my eyes and shake my head. “No, you idiot.”
I hear Seth chuckling and turn back around, seeing him screw off the lenses from the camera and stuff them in his pockets. I shake my head. Sometimes Seth takes it a bit too far and by the looks of it, that’s a pretty expensive camera.
She’s definitely going to scream. I can just see it. But she won’t do anything, a dark little thought circulates. She’ll probably just cry.
“Lukie, what the hell are you doing?” Asks Seth, motioning to the photography book in my hands. “Here we are, causing chaos and you’re learning how to take pictures.”
I scoff. “I’m just trying to understand the mental workings of our psychotic roommate.”
Hunter rolls his eyes. “Yeah, right. Most likely you have a little crush on Rachel.”
I raise an eyebrow. “Rachel, Hunter? So you’re calling her Rachel now?”
I take note of the blush flaming Hunter’s cheeks and the subtle way he averts his eyes. Ah, so you like Rachel now?
“Just do something, Lucas,” says Seth. Anxiety fills me as Seth tosses the camera back and forth. If he breaks that camera we are all so dead.
“Hey, it was my idea to come in here.” I grind my teeth as he continues tossing it. “Will you please put that down? You are making me nervous.”
Seth holds out the camera. “You mean this?”
I nod. “Yes, that. Put it down.” I throw the photography book on the pillow and pick up a little pink book. I look at the title, smiling wickedly when I read: My Diary. “Look what I have here.” I tilt the book back and forth in front of Seth. I nearly sigh in relief
