hot.”

Torin shifted in his seat, his runes dancing over his skin. “Silva.”

“What?” She blinked innocently. “It is.”

“This isn’t the time or the place.”

“Stuff it, old man. You’re interrupting the fantasy. Adonis, add my 1911 in there and I’m yours.”

Fabiana knew Silva, so she didn’t take offense to the Fae Queen’s messing with her mate. Besides, there was enough testosterone in the room to handle that for her.

“Perhaps Alexi may be looking for the bonding. Adonis is off the market.”

“Ah, come on Fabiana. That’s like AA action over here. If I find another A, I’ve got the triple. At that level, they’re competing against my B.O.B.”

“Who the hell is Bob?” Torin roared.

Silva winked at the Guardian. “Battery operated boyfriend.”

Torin rose to his feet but Arturo put out a hand. “Speaking with you all is like babysitting children. I’ve got other business to attend to, so if we’re finished here, I’m leaving. We have the earpieces in case anything else happens. The manufacturer is working on inter-city contact, but the distance is obviously the problem. I’ll let you know if I find out anything more. Dismissed.”

“The principal has spoken,” Silva announced.

Arturo glared at her, and she laughed as she raced toward the elevator. “Too bad, Arturo. I was thinking you’d want to be my third A.”

She was inside and safe before Arturo’s chair crashed into the wall near doors.

Even Fabiana cringed at that one. “Let’s go home.”

“So it was about the Fae woman,” Adonis whispered.

“What?”

“Silva is always entertainment, but today was beyond her normal. She ribs those who can handle it. Something is on her mind.”

Fabiana sighed. “Her sister, and that is all I’m going to tell you.”

“Family does that to you. Speaking of family, your brother is coming.”

Fabiana turned to meet Pasquale, standing for him when he opened his arms.

“It’s good to see you, cucciola. You look well.”

“I’m not going to yell at you, if that’s what you’re implying.”

He smiled, pushing her hair back from her face. “I’m glad. You look happy.”

Adonis pulled her from Pasquale, resting her against his body. She smiled and shook her head. “He’s a lot to handle, but I’m doing fine so far.”

“Looks like it.” Pasquale lifted his hand for Adonis to shake. “Alpha.”

“Adonis is fine. You’re brother to my mate and an Alpha as well. I won’t expect you to bow to me, not even when others are around.”

That was no small allowance. The packs were built on hierarchy, and the Alpha of the smaller pack always bowed to the larger pack.

“Great. Then if you pull my sister out of my arms again, I’ll break your face.”

Adonis laughed. “Noted. Of course, she didn’t complain, did she?”

Fabiana rolled her eyes and stepped away from both men. “I swear, the pissing contests are to the extreme when you guys get together.”

“All fun, I promise.” Adonis lifted his hands in mock surrender.

“Why don’t you guys come with us for dinner? I’m sure Fabiana has missed you.”

Pasquale’s face went blank and so did Giuliana’s. “We can’t,” he answered finally. “But tomorrow, sure. It’s,” he cleared his throat, “our anniversary.”

“Oh, of course. Spend your time together; the invitation stands.”

“Thank you, Adonis. We’ll be there tomorrow, cucciola, okay?”

“Okay.”

Pasquale and Giuliana waved before heading toward the elevator.

“What does that mean?”

“Cucciola?”

Adonis nodded.

“Puppy. You both have a thing for naming me after something small.”

“At least I didn’t name you after something small and hairy.”

She stopped herself from punching him and probably messing up her hand, barely.

He fidgeted a moment.

“What is it, Adonis?”

“I’d like to present you to the pack tonight. They’ve been waiting to be formally introduced.”

“I know a lot of them by now.”

“Moonstone does something special for our mated pairs. I haven’t talked about it before, but maybe now you’d agree.”

“It’s our pack, Adonis. I’ll do it.”

His smile was beautiful. “Then let’s go home. You’ll have a bit of time to get ready. I’ll let Raphael know to get it arranged.”

She wasn’t so sure, but Adonis’s palpable excitement on the way home had her slightly worried about what she’d actually agreed to.

Chapter Eighteen

Adonis didn’t let her dress up like she had to go on the strip. Instead, he had something laid out waiting for Billie, who was nearly jumping with excitement.

“The wolves are so happy you’re doing this, Fabiana. The mated pairs don’t often get to see this show.”

Fabiana looked away from the revealing dress and tried to get her heart under control, but Billie’s words didn’t help one bit.

“Don’t tell me I’m the show.”

Billie laughed. “Of course not. Your mate would rip the eyes out of any man who got a chance to see you naked. No, this is about pack cohesion.”

In the wild, wolves tended to bond together for mating or ran in packs. But they were also loaners, spending days away from each other to stretch out their territory and search for food. Pack cohesion for them involved touch and reassurance from their Alpha they were accepted members of the group. Hierarchy challenges sometimes happened for males who were more confident after spending time in the wilderness alone.

Shifters were similar, but the rolling and licking all over their Alphas wasn’t something they did.

What was accepted depended on the Alpha, but most of the time it involved rowdy parties where they let the wolf side “hang out” so to speak. These gatherings typically ended with a lot of wolves that were single when they came in leaving in pairs.

“So what does this pack do for pack cohesion?”

“The mated pairs come together for a show in the one of the dormitories. Adonis told you they have fully functional staging, right? Well, one of our shows got retired a while
