I look around the room. There’re a few women sitting in front of mirrors applying makeup. Alice and I were brought here, wherever here is, and I woke up in this room which looks like a changing room for dancers or actors. It has the same vibe only the women here don't look happy. We were told not to move from these stools and the other girls walk by us like we’re invisible. My head is thumping from whatever they used to knock me out. I feel like I’m suffering a huge hangover without any of the fun.
“What do you think’s gonna happen?” I whisper.
“No idea,” says Alice.
“How did they get you?” I ask.
“They caught me looking around,” she mutters. “My boss is gonna kill me.”
“Looking around?” I ask and she nods.
“A club not far from the docks. New bikers in town I guess, but they weren’t happy seeing a cop snooping around. My boss warned me to stay away,” she mutters.
“Where do you think they took Blu?” I ask.
“They didn’t take him,” she mutters. “They left him behind so he could tell the Kings they were in town.”
My mind races with hope. If he got away, then they’ll come and find us. Vinn will come. The door opens and the girls seem to scatter into the shadows. A man saunters through wearing a leather jacket similar to the ones the Kings wear only with a snake on the patch. Beside him is Ricardo, looking pristine in his designer suite. His jaw ticks when he sees me. “What the fuck have you done?” he growls at the biker.
“You said you wanted the girl, I got you the fuckin’ girl.”
“Why are there bruises on her neck?” yells Ric.
“She didn’t come quietly,” lies the biker. “My men said she kicked off.”
“She kicked off,” repeats Ric, amused. “So a girl caused a little fuss and your men decided to throttle her? Care to explain why she’s in a sheet?”
“I didn’t kick off,” I say quietly. I take a breath and square my shoulders. I have to find my balls. “I was enjoying a bath when they broke into my hotel and dragged me out by my neck. Care to explain what the fuck is going on?” I scream the last part and the smirk disappears from Ric’s face. “Last time we spoke, we’re talking weddings, and now I’m in a room, half naked with a fucking cop!”
Ric glares at Alice, then at the biker. “You brought a cop here? What the fuck were you thinking?” he growls.
“She was snooping about. We didn’t know she was a cop till we had her in the van. Cobra wants some new girls,” says the biker shrugging.
Ricardo hisses a string of curse words in Italian and then without warning pulls out his gun and shoots the guy in the face. I squeeze my thigh so tight to stop me screaming that my nails break the skin. Blood splashes over my chest and Alice’s face. We sit stiff, unmoving.
Another biker rushes in and stops dead when he sees his friend on the ground lifeless. “Get me Cobra, NOW!” yells Ric. The man scuttles out the room. Ric holds his hand out to me. “Come,” he orders. I shake my head. “Cara mia, please,” he persists. His use of the words ‘my beloved’ only serve to make me sicker to my stomach. I stand and fold my arms across my chest, refusing to take his offered hand. He sighs and leads the way from the room. I glance back at Alice. “What about her?” I ask.
“She’s seen too much,” mutters Ric. My eyes widen. “Cobra will deal with it, Gia. She isn’t our concern.”
I stop walking. “No. She comes too.”
“Don’t start, Gia. We can’t save the world. It’s not what we do.”
“I don’t want to save the fucking world. I want to save one person,” I snap.
“A cop,” he mutters.
“A human. They took her for doing her job. Why are you working with Cobra?” I ask. Ric tires of my questions and continues to walk. “I’m not coming without her,” I repeat. Ric mutters something to a man standing in the passageway. He walks towards me and I back up until I hit the wall. He grabs my wrist, pulling me to him and throwing me over his shoulder like I weigh nothing.
He walks with me kicking and screaming up a set of stairs and into a stately-type home. The floors are polished and there’re doors leading off the huge entrance hall. We climb a winding staircase and I’m taken into a bedroom. It’s big, with a large four-poster bed. The man dumps me on the bed and leaves the room. Ric stands by the door with his hands in his pocket. “We’re getting married tomorrow,” he says.
“No,” I say. “I’m not marrying you now, not after this.”
He looks bored, like I’m wasting his time. “Did you think you’d marry the biker and live happily ever after?” he drawls. His eyes fall to the ring that Blu gave me and I cover it protectively with my other hand. “You’ll remove it or lose the finger,” he says.
“Vinn won’t agree to this,” I snap. “Not when I tell him you’re working with Cobra or what your men did to me.”
Ric laughs. “I gave up trying to impress your brother long ago. I was always going to marry you to please the families. There's a whole room full of elders that sanctioned our marriage before your father or brother agreed.”
“Why?” I whisper.
“Because Vinn won’t answer to anyone. Your family came to London and did what they wanted
