βButβ¦ what?β she asked, concern in her voice.
What the fuck ever! I thought. Maybe I need to unload on someone!
So I did. I told her about never being interested in sex until I met Vincent, about being horny all of the time since I met him, and about all of the past lives we spent together. I told her about Angelique, about our newly uncovered (for me) past histories, and just how sexual some of them were.
βI never thought I was a horn-dog until I met Vincent." I said, exasperated. "And until this stuff started coming out with Angelique, wellβ¦ I always assumed I was straight, especially with my hunger for my vampire boyfriend's body, but now..."
βYou know thereβs no pressure.β Gaia assured me. βI know Angelique, and sheβll be fine with however you love her, even if itβs platonic.β
βYeah, but what if I donβt want it to be?β I asked defiantly.
βDo you want more with Angelique?β she asked back.
I pointed at her, opened my mouth, and froze for a minute. I finally threw my hands up again. βI donβt fucking know!β
βLook,β she said, stopping and looking at me. βThereβs no deadline here. Angeliqueβs been alive for one and a half millennia, and your Sorceress powers are going to grant you a longer life, so you have time to figure things out.β
βI know.β I began. βItβs just thatβ¦ wait. What was that about a longer life?β
βYou know,β she said slowly, βthe energy in you makes your cells age slower, so youβll live around a hundred and fifty years at the minimum, barring any unnatural endsβ¦ you know, right?β
βNo, it seems like we havenβt gotten to that bit of information yet.β I said.
βSorry.β she said sheepishly.
βAlliteration aside, itβs OK.β I said. βI shouldnβt be surprised. As long as I donβt grow nipples on my ass, Iβll be fine.β
βThat is something Iβm glad to say Iβve never heard of.β Gaia said with a grin.
βGood.β I replied, smiling back.
βAnd as for your Angelique quandary,β she continued, βYouβll just have to figure that out for yourself. But be patientβ¦ you have time.β
βSee, the thing is, I donβt know if I could evenβ¦ you know, be comfortable with doing things to women.β I said, starting to walk again. βI mean, itβs not like Iβm disgusted by the thoughtβ¦ I have the same equipment, so it would be hypocritical to be all βew, gross!β with someone elseβs, right? But Iβve never, you know...β
βYou never experimented?β she asked.
βYou knowβ¦ a little, but nothing big.β I said. βI mean, I did the usual kissing games with my girlβ¦ I mean, female friends. At slumber parties, you know? No mouths lower than the top of our bras, hands outside of the Pjs, that kind of thing.β
βUh-huh..." Gaia grinned.
βSo I wouldnβt want to be, you know, shitty if I did decide to, you know, try things.β I sighed. βI hope Iβm not dumping too much on you.β
βOh no, youβve been very illuminating.β she said. βAnd let me say, you can come to me to just talk anytime. However,β she paused, smiling at me. βIf you want toβ¦ you knowβ¦ try things out without all of the history sometime. I would be honored.β She giggled nervously.
βThe problem is, no matter how sweet your offer is,β I began. And I definitely donβt feel creeped out, now that the offerβs been made. βI still have a boyfriend to think about. I donβt want my personal explorations to hurt him.β
βYou are truly a good person.β
βThank you.β
Our conversation was interrupted by a high pitched wailing. Gaia threw an arm around me while the other wielded a sword that I have no idea where she was keeping in her silky outfit.
βWhatβs going on?β I asked.
βI donβt know.β she replied, eyes still scanning the surrounding terrain. βThe general alarm hasnβt been sounded in ages.β
A whoosh of air signaled Vincentβs arrival, and he stood beside me opposite Gaia, also scanning the perimeter.
βAngeliqueβs going to find out whatβs going on.β he said. βJack and Raina are at Hatsu and Katsuβs.β
He knows me so well! I thought. βOK, so everyoneβs safe. Should we move inside?β
Doors started opening all around us, and armed Fae moved cautiously into the street. They started clustering around us, eyes aimed outward.
βI think weβre pretty good out here.β Vincent deadpanned.
The siren cut off, plunging the street into silence. Everyone held their breath, waiting for something to happen.
Another whoosh, and Angelique appeared beside us. βEveryone can stand down.β she said. Her quiet voice shattered the spell, and Fae started moving back towards their doors.
βContact your security contact to be briefed.β she continued. Angelique turned to us and lowered her voice. βThereβs been an incursion on the edges of this realm.β
Gaia audibly gasped. βGreat Mother...β she exclaimed, her hand to her mouth.
βYes,β Angelique confirmed, grim. βThere is going to be a central security meeting at Lucindaβs in twenty minutes. Our party is assembling there.β
βIβm going.β Gaia said, resolute. βI just donβt feel comfortable letting Annabelle out of my sight.β
βWell, this guardian appreciates your eyes.β Vincent said.
As does this frightened magickal figure!
* * *
βSome unknown agent penetrated our border deep in the woods.β the stern-faced Fae said. βThey used the border path to move between realms, and were gone as soon as we discovered their invasion.β
Iβd forgotten there even were male Fae, I thought, weβve been surrounded by the rainbow queer gals since weβve gotten here!
βThey left no trace?β Trevor asked, his face serious.
βNone that we have been able to detect.β answered a statuesque Fae, her deep emerald skin telling me that she was some relation of Gaiaβs.
