โ€œYou mean itโ€™s not obvious?โ€

He got up and walked over to the dresser where an assortment of baked goods were stacked on a silver tray.  Next to that was a silver urn with steam coming out of the top, and he poured me a mug of the hot liquid.

โ€œMy love, I present you with the best coffee in the Fae world.โ€ He handed me the mug and I took a sip.

โ€œWow!โ€ I said.  โ€œThis looks black, but it tastes...โ€ I took another sip.  โ€œYes, it tastes like vanilla, caramel, andโ€ฆ is that cinnamon?โ€

Vincent shrugged.  โ€œIt tastes different to everyone.  Itโ€™s supposed to mimic your favorite flavors in coffee.โ€

โ€œWhat does it taste like to you?โ€

                โ€œBlood and chocolate.โ€

I closed my eyes.  "I must be really tired because I think I'd drink this even if it tasted like that!"  I drank again, grateful that it didn't.  I drank again, and then looked at the cup.  "Uh, I've drunk half a cup, but it still looks full."

โ€œOh, thatโ€™s because it wonโ€™t run out until youโ€™ve had enough.โ€  He said, stepping away.

I looked at my drink.  โ€œThis is the coolest thing ever.โ€ I said, completely serious.

โ€œSo, did you have fun last night?โ€ Vincent asked, carrying the tray of pastries over.

โ€œYeah, but not as much fun as Evie and Raina had.โ€ I replied, plucking a square pastry off of the top of the stack.

โ€œAh, did they catch a ride on the orgasm express?โ€

                โ€œAnd then some.โ€

โ€œAll Fae love sex.  Some are just a little freer with it than others."

โ€œYou could say that again!โ€ I took a bite, and the pastry tasted like a chocolate tart.  โ€œIs this magickal too?โ€ I asked, holding it up.

Vincent nodded.  โ€œThey think itโ€™s the best way to keep guests happy, to make the food really good.โ€

At least itโ€™s not all sex! I thought.  โ€œSo, did Jack ever arrive?โ€

โ€œLate last night.โ€ Vincent sat on the edge of the bed.  โ€œWe can go find them after breakfast.โ€

I looked at my still-full coffee cup.  As long as Iโ€™m not too wired!

                                                                                                *                *                *

We found Jack sitting outside of a multicolored house just a couple of street-like paths away from our accommodations.  Every building looks alike, yet completely different I mused to myself.  I felt like I could get lost there, yet never get too lost.

Jack waved us over, and I sat next to him. A silver pot of magick Fae coffee sat on the small table between us.

โ€œCoffee?โ€ he asked, holding a mug up.

โ€œOh no," I said, my hand raised, "I've drunk a gallon, I think."

โ€œIf only they could do this with Mountain Dew.โ€ he said wistfully.

Hatsu stuck her head out of the door of the house.  โ€œOh good, Vincent!โ€ she said.

                โ€œYes?โ€

                โ€œMay I speak with you for a moment?โ€

Vincent went inside with her, and I leaned in to speak quietly with my friend.

โ€œSo, howโ€™s it going with you and Katsu?โ€ I asked with a grin.

                โ€œItโ€™sโ€ฆ going.โ€ he replied, nodding.  โ€œGoing quite well.โ€

I shook my head.  "Really, dude? You don't date for two years and then hook up with a five thousand-year-old mystical being?"

โ€œUm, what about you?โ€ he retorted, eyebrows raised.  โ€œYou practically never dated anyone, and now youโ€™re banging someone thatโ€™s not only centuries old, but also isnโ€™t even human!โ€

โ€œTouche.โ€ I surrendered, hands raised.  โ€œSo what took you so long?โ€

Jack squirmed slightly in his seat.  โ€œYeah, well, you werenโ€™t the only person with questions about my intentions.โ€ he said.  โ€œSeems that her big Sis also wanted to have a sit-down with me.โ€

โ€œScary.โ€ I said, eyes slightly wide.

โ€œYou're not kidding!" he agreed.  "But it wasn't so bad.  She just wanted to make sure that I really liked her, not just..."

โ€œNot just looking to get laid?โ€ I finished.

                โ€œExactly!โ€

I grinned.  โ€œYou know, if you werenโ€™t attached, youโ€™d be swimming in Fae sex right now.โ€

He stopped and looked at me.  โ€œSeriously?โ€

                โ€œSeriously.โ€

โ€œSo the things that Hatsu said about Fae orgies?โ€

                โ€œTotally real.โ€

โ€œDamn."  He smiled.  "It's a good thing that I like her."

I smiled, and then saw Vincent emerge from the house alone.  He took another seat by the table, a chair that appeared as he needed it.

โ€œSo, dude...โ€ he said, looking at Jack, โ€œyou already got the โ€˜donโ€™t break the heart of my little sister or elseโ€™ talk from Hatsu?โ€

Jack swallowed. โ€œYeah. Something tells me that I should take her seriously.โ€

โ€œYou should." Vincent couldn't keep the amusement from his voice.  "These supernatural types have seen too much bullshit to ever 'hope for the best'.  They find that it's more effective to threaten evisceration and depend on an individual's self-preservation instincts to kick in."

โ€œGreat.โ€  Jackโ€™s voice told me it was anything but.

โ€œSo I assume that Hatsu wanted to talk to you about things other than her scary face.โ€ I said, moving on.

Vincentโ€™s face grew more serious.  โ€œShe did.  It seems that her friends in the paranormal underworld have been noticing a lot of โ€˜movementโ€™ on the less traveled pathways.โ€

                โ€œMovement?โ€ I asked.  โ€œWhat does she mean by movement?โ€

โ€œWays of traveling that arenโ€™t used that often, either because of difficulty or danger, are becoming more active.โ€ he explained.  โ€œWhoeverโ€™s behind it is powerful, too. To not only travel these paths, but to also cloak their identity from Hatsuโ€™s friendsโ€ฆ who, I should remind you, are some powerful fuckersโ€ฆ itโ€™s kind of concerning.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s going on?โ€ I asked, baffled.  โ€œDo you think that itโ€™s connected to the attacks on me?โ€

Jack and Vincent exchanged glances, ironic grins and chuckles shared between them.

                โ€œShould I tell her?โ€ Vincent asked.

                โ€œNah, let me.โ€ Jack answered.  โ€œIโ€™ve known her longer.โ€

                โ€œWhat?โ€ I was seriously confused.

โ€œAnnabelle, darling.โ€ Jack said, looking at me.  โ€œYouโ€™re the Sorceress.  There hasnโ€™t been a Sorceress for over a century.  There are millennia-old creatures that
