“Good, take Axe, Savage, and Ruger with you. I’ll give the old man a call and let him know to expect you all. I just hope he doesn’t attempt to kill you on the spot,” my Prez chuckles humorlessly.
“Hammer, that wasn’t funny,” Avery snaps.
“Didn’t intend for it to be, Sunshine. Now come on, let’s go make that phone call while Malice here gets his shit together to get ready to go meet the man who he needs the blessing of to be with his granddaughter.” I swear Hammer’s taunting me for no reason other than to piss me off.
I’m sure this is because he knows what I did with her as well as knows it kills me to have left her alone.
Turning to the bar, I swallow the last of the bourbon in the glass and head to my room to pack. I don’t know how long I’ll be gone, but either way, I’m bringing Willow back where she belongs. I shouldn’t have fucked up the way I did. But the woman sets my soul on fire and I can’t stop my reaction to her from happening. And that right there is one of the main reasons I’ve pushed her away.
When we get back, I’ll have this room set up for not just me but for both of us. A few years ago, when we’d remodeled the clubhouse, several of us had our rooms enlarged. Hammer, Axe, and mine being the largest of them all. I didn’t have a house outside of here and didn’t want one.
Most would think I was crazy, but my view on it all is, why hold on to something if I’m not going to use it at any point? I’m perfectly happy with living in the clubhouse. I have everything I need here.
Well almost. But that will be rectified here soon when I go get my woman and bring her home.
Consequences of my family be damned. If they try to come at me this time, I’ll be sure they finally meet their fate at my hands.
Chapter Two
Willow
Four days have passed since coming home and I’ve enjoyed being around my grandpa and all his friends. They might seem like hardened men, on the house side, who are farmers working from sunup to sundown, but to me they’re all gentle giants.
Today they decided to have a BBQ to welcome me back home. I didn’t want them to think they had to do it, but they did nonetheless.
A few men who were still married or their wives were still alive helped put the sides together. This is something I’d missed until I went to a cookout at the clubhouse. It reminded me of home, and I’d enjoyed myself. Now being here while they put on the BBQ, my heart ached at the reminder of it all.
“Baby girl, you ready to talk about what has you down?” Grandpa asks me. He’d left the subject alone up until now. Including the fact, he knew I was pregnant.
“I’m not, Grandpa. I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready,” I whisper.
“Alright, Willow, then it’s time for you to hear some truths,” he declares and takes his seat across from me at the picnic table. “I know about the fire and all the shit that’s happened recently. I also know about you being around the Devil’s Riot MC.”
My eyes widen in shock at this announcement because I’d not told my grandpa about this.
“You know I’m not a typical farmer and neither are the rest of the men who live around us. I’ve had an eye on you this entire time. Mitchell’s grandson, Dawson, is stationed close to where you were going to school and he’d check up on you. Now I don’t have a problem with you associating with the DRMC. Those men are good men. We might not agree with each other, but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect them. I owe them a debt for protecting you and keeping you safe. What I don’t know, though, baby girl, is why you’re looking heartbroken?”
Oh my God.
Ugh.
Talk about mind-boggling even more so.
“Grandpa,” I utter, tears welling in my eyes.
“No need for tears, Willow,” he mutters, and I give him a sad smile. “Tell me, did the father of my great-grandbaby hurt my baby girl?”
“No, he didn’t hurt me. Well, he doesn’t realize it, I suppose. It’s stupid, really. My fault for thinking more of something than what it really was. Dang it. I should have known better than to let myself get caught up the way I did with a crush,” I ramble.
“Nothing wrong with getting caught up in a crush and if the ass has any sense at all, he’ll be on his way to get you right now,” he says almost too calmly.
“Grandpa, none of them know where I’m from. I didn’t tell them about growing up here. I didn’t get the chance to tell Avery or Quinn about it. Well, we talked about it some but not enough for them to know exactly where the farm is,” I say quickly.
“I’m sure if those boys in that club want to know something, they’ll find it one way or another. Besides, I’ve already gotten a call from Hammer and Avery both, making sure you’d gotten here okay.” If my jaw could have come unattached from my face, it would have fallen onto the table right then.
Swear to all that’s holy, my grandpa is simply filled with surprises today.
“How about we get your mind off shit for a bit and enjoy this hog Mitchell and Stevens have been cooking up for all of us to enjoy?” he suggests.
“That sounds good to me, Grandpa. Thank you,” I murmur with a grin on my face.
This is one of the main reasons I love my grandpa so much. He’s always looking out for me. Even when he’s just laid a lot at my feet to think about. I’ll have to think on those things later on and, for the time
