βI will have this gold, and I am not letting a human stop me.β By this time, the Fire Maiden approached. Travis shapeshifted back to his alien form. Travis stepped back and walked backward. The Fire Maiden threw her coat in front of Bev and Princess Celia just as Travis expelled an exceptionally large stream of white-hot fire at them. Her coat saved Bev and the Princess. Bev turned to the Fire Maiden. βThank you.β Just as Bev finished her βthank you,β Travis blew more fire at Bev. The fire hit Bevβs legs and Bev screamed in pain as the fire continued up her leg. The Fire Maiden threw her coat over her, extinguishing the fire. Then Bev heard Travis say, βThis is war, and you lose.β Bev was in so much pain from the fire, and then she heard the whoops and roars. She saw the silver arrow pierce Travis, knocking him down. Travis lifted a black object to the sky. All eyes were on the sky as a Star Gate opened. This one looked different from the star gate for Jaβal. This one looked like an inside-out tornado - almost like a waterspout. Then a light beam hit Travis and pulled him into the waterspout vortex. He was gone.
Princess Celia and theFire Maiden both turned their attention to Bev. She was screaming in pain, and they both bathed her in their healing light. Now, the firemen surrounded the women. When the fireman got a look at Cleg and Zonga approaching at a fast rate of speed, they all took off running to the truck. Before Zonga and Cleg even reached the women, the firetrucks with the men were backing out of the driveway. Princess Celia asked Bev if the pain was gone. She shook her head βyes.β The Fire Maiden stood up, looked at Zonga and Cleg, gave a smile and with a burst of amber light she was gone.
βWhy does everyone disappear in a burst of light?β Bev asked.
Thank God that the Fire Maiden was here to thwart Travis' effort to gain control of the Cuyahoga Valley. Wonder if she is the one meeting with Vue and Tas to gain information on who the fire bug was,β asked Cleg. βTravis was a bad man. He killed my Ja'al. Bitty has no mom now. He shot Jaβal, Vue, and Tas. He wanted to get rid of Vue and Tas so they could not talk to anyone about him. Jaβal just was in the crossfire. She saved Bitty from being killed, too. This is a sad day for the Cuyahoga Valley.β Cleg picked up Bev and carried her back to her house. Bev asked Cleg if he had heard of the Fire Maiden. He said, βYes, she appears at major forest fires to help extinguish them.β
Princess Celia told Bev she would be fine by morning. She assured Bev she would come by tomorrow to check on her. Bev told Cleg that she would send Bitty down to him. She knew they needed each other more than ever.
