him to finish inside her, Micah nearly having to cover his own mouth with the loud moan he let out as he released his load.

What an ending.

What an absolutely fantastic ending to what could have been a terrible fucking day.

Micah did not expect the ‘big day’ to come so quickly. He was also surprised to find out what Soraya’s mention of a double wedding actually meant. Everything was set to take place just a few days later, and Youseg’s nuns and monks spent that time completely transforming one of the corners of the monastery into an affair meant for the ages with hundreds of multifarious flowers arranged on the archways, sleek silks draped from pedestals, chairs with white cushions, and an elaborately embroidered carpet leading up to the altar.

Excitement was in the air, and even though they were in a different country, Micah felt it here as much as he would have felt it in his home country, change on everyone’s minds, the true power of Neo-Hokkaido presented in its sheer power globally, how much it affected its neighboring countries. There was already talk of a truce between Jokamatchi and Heian, one to be brokered by the High Council, and while not every biological weapon had been recovered yet, the Society of Monks were well on their way to keeping the promise that Ahmey had made for all Neo-Hokkaidans.

While Micah would have liked to see the change from his own country, perhaps even from his home district of Thunderhama, there was plenty to do at the monastery, and Yuri made sure that everyone kept up with their training regimen as well. She was of the mindset that fallout was still a possibility, and none of them questioned this, especially not Micah, who was increasingly starting to understand how fragile these agreements between citizen and government actually were.

“The big day has come yet again,” Micah’s grandmother told him that morning as he joined her at the breakfast table, the elderly woman already dressed in the clothes she would wear just a few hours later. There was nothing frumpy about her outfit, a tailor near the monastery seriously transforming Micah’s grandmother through her clothing into a stylish older woman. Rather than a long dress, she wore a crisp pair of pants with shoes that looked sharp, a shirt with a perfectly ironed collar and a jacket over that with a hand-stitched nature scene. It was the first time Micah had looked at her and seen the woman she used to be, a revelatory moment, and a reminder to him that everyone aged yet, no matter how much they changed, a part of them remained the same.

“You’re the one that arranged it, remember?” Micah reminded her.

“A double wedding. I’m not going to lie, sweetie, but I really didn’t see this one coming.”

“You aren’t the only one.”

“I hope you saved yourself for your wedding night,” she said with a wink.

“Sure, sure I did. You know me…”

“No, he didn’t,” Bunni said as she peered at the top of the stairs, already in her turquoise bridesmaid dress, which accented her shapely features, her blonde hair pulled back and held by a headband with a large flower between her two rabbit ears.

Micah’s grandmother laughed. “You are a devil, Micah, just like your grandfather! Ha!”

Soraya entered from outside, the kitsune giving directions to some of Youseg’s attendants. She too wore a turquoise bridesmaid dress, the ends of which were dangerously close to the ground.

“You aren’t supposed to be doing anything,” Bunni scolded her. “You’ll ruin your dress.”

“No, I won’t. And it’s important…” Soraya pointed at one of the veiled monks. “Everything needs to be in place, like I told you. And make sure the napkins are folded into simple stars. I showed you how to do that.”

The two monks nodded.

“Why are you still following me around?” Soraya asked them. “You should be folding those napkins!”

“Hell yeah, crack the whip,” Micah’s grandmother said after the two monks left. “I sure as hell would with those two dummies. Are you sure you don’t need anything, dearie? I know you like calling the shots here, but sometimes it takes an elder to really put the fear of an ass-whooping into these nuns and monks. Don’t get me wrong, some of them aren’t so bad, especially the young fellow who rubs my feet, but some…” His grandmother twisted her finger a few inches away from her head. “You get the picture. I don’t know where Youseg finds these people, but he certainly isn’t selecting from the cream of the crop. At least in my opinion.”

“Look at you in your wedding best,” Bunni told Micah’s grandmother as she came down the stairs. She bent over and kissed the side of her cheek. “So adorable.” She kissed her on the other cheek. “So cute…”

“I clean up nice, right?”

“You do.”

“Soraya?” Micah’s grandmother asked. “Don’t I get a compliment?”

“What? No. I have to make sure everything is ready,” Soraya said as she went up the stairs to Liza’s room, where the brides were. Yuri was already in the room with them, and had been there for the last hour. Micah still had a few things to put on, including an overcoat that was to go over the sleek jacket he wore, but he was more or less ready to go, Bunni shifting her comments from his grandmother to him as she approached her husband.

“So sexy,” she said. “Already ready to go. Keep that bowtie for later; I can see it on you now, no shirt, muscled chest glistening…”

“Stop! I’m trying not to imagine my grandson like that!” Micah’s grandmother said as she fanned herself.

Bunni looked at the spread of food on the table, much of which hadn’t been touched aside from what Micah’s grandmother had sampled. “Want me to make you a plate?”

“Sure, just a
