situation and location, and Vincentโ€™s given him coordinates to pass on to us.โ€

                I was surprised. โ€œHe knows where weโ€™re at already?โ€

โ€œHe tracks the GPS on my phone whenever I leave the compound, especially for an emergency evac.โ€ She hit a few buttons on her screen. โ€œThat way.โ€ she said, facing east.

                โ€œLead on.โ€ I said, gesturing.

We walked into the treeline and through the woods. After a mile of nothing more menacing than the occasional icy patch, Tiffany finally holstered her sidearm.

โ€œKeep it handy in case we run into any feral death metal bands.โ€ I said, winking. โ€œI hear that there are a couple who came out here to shoot promotional photos that never came back.โ€

โ€œWhy do you think I avoided all of those Finnish park ranger jobs?โ€ Tiffany grinned. โ€œI didnโ€™t want to spend half of my life rescuing teenage boys with bad Kiss fetishes.โ€

โ€œWhere are we going, anyway?โ€ I asked, stepping over a fallen branch.

โ€œMy Uncle said that itโ€™s an ally of Angelique and Vincentโ€™s.โ€ she replied. โ€œSome guy named Seamus.โ€

We eventually came out of the forest on the shores of a massive lake. On the waterโ€™s edge stood a very Scottish-looking castle, which made me pause.

โ€œThat doesnโ€™t look very Finnish.โ€ I said, pointing at the structure.

โ€œNeither does a name like โ€˜Seamusโ€™.โ€ Tiffany shrugged.

โ€œGood point.โ€ I said as we resumed walking.

โ€œSo, whatโ€™s it like, sleeping with a vampire?โ€ she asked after a few more minutes.

โ€œYou heard about that part, huh?โ€ I asked in return.

โ€œYouโ€™ve gotta admit that itโ€™s  not strange that it came up in conversation.โ€ she replied, casting a side glance and a grin my way.

โ€œI guess Iโ€™m not used to being in a relationship that people talked about.โ€ I said.

โ€œWell, I will admit that your friend Jack talked about it mostlyโ€ Tiffany said. โ€œI think he was compensating for the fact that his girlfriend is five thousand years old.โ€

โ€œWhat,โ€ I said, smiling, โ€œsomething like โ€˜my girlfriend might be as old as the last ice age, but at least sheโ€™s human!โ€™?โ€

                โ€œExactly! She said, laughing.

โ€œItโ€™sโ€ฆ โ€œ I said, searching for the words. โ€œItโ€™s great. The sex, I mean. Just think about being with someone who doesnโ€™t have to take a breath if they donโ€™t want to.โ€

โ€œWoah.โ€ she said, her eyebrows raised.

โ€œOther than that, itโ€™s justโ€ฆ sex with a soulmate.โ€ I continued, shrugging. โ€œI have no idea what unconnected sex with a vampire is like because I have a ten thousand year history with the person behind the fangs that I sleep with.โ€

                โ€œAnd they donโ€™t sleep?โ€

โ€œI havenโ€™t had to make my own breakfast if I donโ€™t want to since I moved out of my Momโ€™s house.โ€

                โ€œSign me up!โ€

We laughed again as we walked up to the door. We paused before knocking.

โ€œHow on guard should I be?โ€ Tiffany asked, hand on her gun.

โ€œThis is a Vincent and Angelique ally, not a Trevor Hawkins one, so we can be sure that weโ€™ll come to no harm.โ€ I replied. โ€œTheyโ€™ve most likely spoken withโ€ฆ Mister Seamus and paved the way for us.โ€

โ€œVery well.โ€ Tiffany took her hand off of her sidearm and knocked on the wooden door.

We heard some amount of shuffling and muffled cursing on the other side before the door swung open, revealing a tall, thin man with red hair tied back in a messy ponytail.

โ€œAye,โ€ he said, his Scottish accent cutting through his rough, grizzled voice, โ€œYou must be Vincent and Angeliqueโ€™s friends!โ€

โ€œSargent Tiffany Collins, sir.โ€ Tiffany said, standing ramrod straight.

                โ€œIโ€™m Annabelle.โ€ I said, nodding.

โ€œAnd Iโ€™m Seamus.โ€ he said. โ€œNow get your asses in here before you attract something damagingโ€ฆ โ€œ

We followed him in and he led us down a stone corridor. Electric lights burned in the places where torches used to hang, the permanent soot-marks in the ceiling attesting to the castleโ€™s pre-electric past.

                โ€œSo,โ€ Tiffany said, โ€œvampire?โ€

โ€œOnly for five hundred years.โ€ Seamus replied. โ€œNot nearly as long as Angelique, but Iโ€™ve seen my fair share.โ€

I looked at his simple attireโ€ฆ a plain white dress shirt and black slacks... and smiled. "You don't dress like a five-hundred-year-old Scottish vampire."

โ€œWhat, you expect me to be running around in a kilt with flaming bagpipes or something?โ€ he grinned. โ€œIโ€™ve gotta save something for parties!โ€

Our host led us to a brightly decorated dining room, itโ€™s large window showing the brilliant sunset happening outside. We sat down and Seamus pulled an embroidered rope.โ€

โ€œTARA!โ€ he shouted as he pulled. โ€œWE HAVE GUESTS!โ€

An annoyed Irish accent from the next room answered him. โ€œI know we have guests,โ€ it said, not shouting but being heard just fine, โ€œI fucking well told you about them! Iโ€™m the one who read Vincentโ€™s fucking text!โ€

โ€œWell then get them some fucking drinks!โ€ the vampire shot back.

A dark-haired woman, just over five feet tall, walked in the room carrying a tray full of drinks. โ€œWell what do you think Iโ€™m fucking doing, you cock-hungry bloodsucker?" she said, walking over and setting the tray down by us.

                โ€œSargent Tiffany Collins.โ€ Tiffany said, smiling. โ€œAnd you are?โ€

โ€œTara J Brennan.โ€ the Irishwoman replied, extending her hand. โ€œThe โ€˜Jโ€™ stands for Jazz, me Dad was a sax player, and me friends call me Jazzy. I take care of mister cranky pants over there.โ€ she added with a jerk of her head towards Seamus.โ€

โ€œAnd what about your girlfriends?โ€ Tiffany asked next, shaking her hand slowly.

Jazzy grinned. โ€œThey call me often.โ€

โ€œYeah, well, youโ€™ll get kind of cock hungry after I turn you!โ€ Seamus said, a smug grin on his face.

                โ€œUgh, donโ€™t remind me!โ€ Jazzy grimaced.

                โ€œWhat?โ€ Tiffany said, confused.

โ€œWhatever part of us that dictates who we like to canoodle withโ€ฆ โ€œ I explained, โ€œโ€ฆ  doesnโ€™t really survive the transition from human to vampire. Gay, straightโ€ฆ it all becomes this messy pansexual mush around vampires.โ€

                โ€œYeah.โ€ Seamus continued, crossing his
